Both the MIC and LINE gain is accessed from that INPUT knob. For LINE use you would activate the LINE button. There is an ´OFF´ position because there are actually two GAIN stages present in order to achieve the huge amount of usable gain available (80dBs!) The ´OFF´ is just switching from one gain stage to the next in order to access more gain when necessary.
I have doubts about the connection. Currently, I have it connected with an XLR to TRS (LINE) into my Apollo Twin. Is this correct, or does it need to be XLR to XLR (MIC) for recording vocals?"
Yes it is important to be careful with ComboJacks as they generally require you to use a 1/4¨ TRS connector to access the LINE input....the XLR is usually a MIC input which means a different level and impedance.... When taking the LINE output from your HA-73 it is essential that you enter your interface through the LINE input, which is on a 1/4¨ TRS connector.. And....make sure that in your Apollo setup you choose LINE, not MIC for the input. If you were to use an XLR-XLR cable you would be entering into the Twin´s MIC preamp, not something you should do.
