I always wondered about these. They're a Neve 1073 clone, (that doesn't cost a kidney and your manhood) right?? Sounds amazing. I'm getting ready to invest, and I was looking at these and the Geoff Daking models that Weckl and Ward are/were using. Those sound incredible as well. GREAT demo, Carter. Seems to me that a pair of really good overheads, and maybe a kick mic covers just about all the main food-groups for us "Keep it simple stupid" guys that just like to groove. Well done, friend. 👍
My ears also prefer this kit and tuning compared to the ha81a demo. It would have been very useful to have compared the ha81a on this kit as well. Either way, great demo as always and thanks! Sounds great
I see you have a bunch of the Heritage Elite Pre's there and just wondering how the Super 8 sounds and feels compared to them? Great video and drumming!
I’m curious are you putting reverb on after or is that how your room actually sounds. I’m more of a dry room sound when it comes to checking out gear and whatnot. Sounds cool in its own right, but maybe you could make some more demos with a dryer tighter sound? That’d be super cool. Incredible nonetheless though well done!
it's probably just the room acoustics. It's a fairly large room with tall ceilings and controlled (but not completely dampened) reflections. Good reflections do wonders for a drum room. Also, he uses pretty wide open tunings especially on his bass drum, so the room is more prevalent in the sound.
Carter when you move to 16th notes on the hi-hats and you throw in that extra left before your right hand comes down and hits the snare, did you get that from Steve Gadd too? Or did that just come natural to you?
@@cartermclean Well, you are a technician with great feel but so many people just play singles. Steve Gadd was the guy that got me turned onto that for sure.
Definitely a great player. I think he could probably make any preamp sound good. I’ve had my eye on the super 8 but not sure if it’s worth the $4000. Yikes. I guess if you can afford, go for it.
I'm considering them too. $4k for eight channels of 1073s with HPF's is an incredible deal. Name one company that makes a 1073 clone on par with the Heritage 73 for less than $500 per channel. That shiz is a bargain, friend
