Every year, the Heritage Foundation publishes an index of Military Strength. It contains some interesting insights into how the different services think about their investments in equipment, manpower, and readiness.

Every generation says that about the next. We should be avoiding useless loss of life at all costs. There is always some false pretense to start a war and force young people to kill or be killed with enormous loss of innocent people stuck in the middle.

@jimmyatila...and they will not be made ready.

I appreciate your honest evaluation of this report. But it would help if you looked at what a civilian think tank knows about the armed services. They are a bunch of self-serving hacks who know only from one perspective which is never in the best needs of service members

Oh, of course. But that's why the content isn't really the "think tank's" analysis. It's just their filtering of the Services' positions.

1:00 I tell kids; if you want to make it past 1 enlistment, just join SAC! Space Force, Air Force, or Coast Guard...

Well, I consider anything coming from the Heritage Foundation dubious. It's nice that the Services assessments current and packaged are packaged so neatly. There's zero doubt the last eight years of Congressional budgets have been abysmal for the services and readiness. I'm interested in any thoughtful perspectives of a way forward. Posting stuff from THF foundation when they sponsored Pro 2025 doesn't help.

The whole P25 thing is weird to me.

The Navy still has the USS Pueblo on the books...it's slightly overdue...They could drop that one from the books. The Heritage Foundation is relaying the Branch's self assessment? The HF authored Project 2025 ( I think)...I wonder if it is too late for me to become a Space Cadet 🤔...Thanks!

First...the Pueblo? You are kidding me (totally not surprised). Second, yeah, the Heritage Foundation did both Project 2025 and this report. Not sure what that means, but I thought it was weird.

@@the_bureaucrat ...I really value your opinion and thought process so...I have a hypothetical question...if you had a nest egg in the TSP...would you switch a good chunk in to the safe G Fund today while watching todays stock markets go up and down?...well, more down than up?...Thanks!

I never trust these type of ratings as living through the Gulf War and the Global War on Terror showed many a commander penciled in training, equipment readiness, and even soldier deployability since doing otherwise risked career advancement. The tightrope walk of required training, training schedules, professional development, unscheduled/emergency deployments, and the "hey, we need ten guys for a detail" can be one of the most difficult things to work around.
