Thoroughly enjoyed Peter's performance at the Puyallup Fair in Washington State, along with the Grassroots, Mickey Dolenz, and Flo and Eddie. 60s forever
In the early 60's when all my friends were agog over the Beatles I decided that I was going to have Herman's Hermits as my # 1 group instead. Not a bad choice, what?!
Vietnam war happened and the utter horror of it, the lies behind it, the realization of the military and intelligence industrial complex ... the horror of it all began to permeate through music. Then woodstock happened, music composed in response to USA's war machine & corporations taking over the world. Jimmy Hendrix - all along the watchtower - "business man there, comes & digs my earth"
If you haven’t seen the video of Peter talking about his friendship with John Lennon find it and watch it. It’s one of my favorite stories he tells. The Hermits recorded at Abbey Roads too.
No you got it all wrong Peter. I WAS THERE. lol..Me and my little sister got all your singles and most of your albums in the 60s.. We were like 7 8 9 and 10. And like 13 by the end of the 60s..You guys along with The Beatles, The Stones, and The Kinks made that transition by 1966 to make more serious music. Like psychedelia, show tunes, social concious lyrics, and more elaborate sounds. Some of those bands back then couldn't change into that scene. Like The Dave Clark Five, and Gary Lewis And The Playboys to name a few. Songs like Listen People, Dandy. This Door Swings, Hush, Don't go out Into The Rain, Museum, and Somethings Happining. That music kicked ass to us kids. Herman Hermits recordings were crystal clear, great sounding, and perfectly recorded. I don't think The Stones, or The Who's recordings sounded as good. Only The Beatles records did. We thought that Herman Hermits were as great as The Beatles. But as we got older we realized that no one was ever gonna be greater than the Beatles but you can't have everything. And we never ever stopped listening to Herman Hermits records to this day frankny67yroldwhitekid rockfan
I have a story about Peter, we saw him last fall, he was great. My Grandson and daughter got in line to get his autogragh. My daughter said how much she liked him and pointed out her parents, he stopped doing sighing, came around the table, came over where we were standing and shook our hands and said, "Thanks for coming Grandma and Grandpa"!
Herman's Hermits had no TV comedy series, cartoon series, cartoon movie, action figures, not even a video game, or even a pinball game machine. In fact any paraphernalia, that deals with them. The only thing Herman's Hermits ever had was, a live action feature film about them. They did however still; earn a spot for, the rock and roll hall of fame.
And when we hit heavy metal instead of Herman's Hermits life began a decline. I remember it well. We all thought we were so cool when in reality we were trading light for dark.
man that sucks. Why can't different types of music coincide in the charts? When one type of music takes over, the diversity stops. Same thing is going on now with rap.
