Hermann Bischoff (1868 - 1936) was a German composer of classical music. After leaving Leipzig to continue his first studies of music, he met Richard Strauss and fell in with his circle. Bischoff's two symphonies have been recorded on the record label Classic Produktion Osnabrück, along with a 1926 Introduction und Rondo. His first symphony, dedicated to Strauss, was performed in Essen on 24 May 1906, as part of the 42nd Tonkünstler-Festival, the same festival that saw the premiere of Gustav Mahler's Sixth Symphony.

Two truly great symphonies by Bischoff. Thanks for these 2 excellent uploads.

My great grandmother's maiden name was Bischoff [var. Bischof, Beskov], b. 1860, possibly in Bischofsheim, near Frankfurt and Darmstadt. She married my great grandfather, a prosperous German-American businessman in California, and of course she moved to California. Maybe a family connection here. My family always said the Bischoffs were of Russian origin on the male line of descent, and the name does sound Russian.

This is the type of music that only 1 second in it draws you so closely you know you have to listen to the whole thing

The long 3rd movement adagio is just glorious; the whole piece is. How is this piece not better known? It's inexplicable!

I liked a lot this one and you stimulated me to listen to #1 and Introduction & Rondo. I guess nobody performed anything else, nor Wikipedia cites other compositions except that he wrote songs as well. Actually I found his style very personal and I heard a solid orchestration command as well as mastery in crafting a traditional format of classical German symphony although with a language in line with his time. I read he was a Straussian circle dude, but, besides the "Eulenspiegel-esque" 2nd movement, I'd never mention Strauss as source of his inspiration. I detected a few Brucknerian moments, scattered "edulcorated Mahlerian" passages but all in all no special firm association with anyone. I'd like to see this one performed more frequently. Don't know yet #1, but this #2 is very good music

the first is much more straussian iˋd say (also dedicated to strauss)
