New lore idea: while Pirate Gem is away, Cottagecore Gem sneaks around planting custom trees

So Gem added pillar basalt to the base and then found out magic mountain is going to be a volcano. That is a geology win.

For the glowing ruin, use Deepslate redstone ore, that was it ACTUALLY starts glowing when you put your hand on it (aka when you activate it by punching it), like in Dredge! You could also add some redstone that makes it so when you activate it, it plays a scary sound affect at the same time ^^

As a floridian whose grown up around mangrove trees all my life, THOSE are 100% mangrove trees. The little baby trees crowding around the bottom are what make it a mangrove! Great job!

As an anthropology student, I can safely say that an anthropologist would have a... Interesting time observing the hermits.

Lore idea: the anthropologist stumbled across this little fishing village completely by accident. They found it was abandoned, and decided to stay there for a while to study the strange bones they found all over the place. Very strangely, even though it was a ghost town that seemed to have been abandoned for years already, all the buildings were in a pristine state - almost as if there was an invisible person coming to tidy up everyday. They decided not to dwell on it too much though. One day, while they were sailing out to observe the giant humanoid skull out on the beach, they found that even though the wind was blowing one way in the fishing town, there was a phantom wind that seemed to push them towards the beach - almost…guiding them…they found this to be quite strange, and right after they noticed that, they found a strange glowing red runestone on a worn down but obviously man made pillar. It seemed like this was the only part of the town that wasn’t maintained. Further upstream, there was a giant rib cage that obviously didn’t belong to anything human. They wondered what had lived here before. Their first guess was pirates, but that wouldn’t explain the skull and the ribcage. A few days later, the anthropologist disappeared. For years, nobody knew where they were, and they were presumed dead. But then out of nowhere, they came back and started doing everything as if nothing had happed. When asked how they had come back, they would just say, “huh? I’ve been here the whole time.” And go back to doing their things. Nobody knows what happened to that anthropologist, but nobody really wants to find out either… (This ended up being SO long I’m sorry)

When I was learning to paint, one of my instructors had a mantra about painting trees..."Can a bird fly through it?" Real trees have voids in the canopy that birds can fly through, so you don't want to paint a tree with a solid, opaque blob of leaves on top of a trunk. It looks far more realistic if there are little holes the birds can fly through. So Gem has this principal down, although she's painting with blocks. :)

Surprise, Mumbo isn't there for a group meeting, that's never happened before on a Hermitcraft season.

WHAT! WHO KNEW THAT YOU CAN BONEMEAL SINGLE DARKOAK SAPLINGS INTO THE ELUSIVE GEMTREES!

Maybe the ribcage bones could somehow work with the water tunnel. Like merge two elements into one so it makes it like the reason the tunnel exists in the first place was because there was a giant ribcage half buried to the ground. Lore wise it would raise questions like whose bones are these? Are they part of the giant skull? How long have they been around? It add mystery to the horror vibe

Fun mangrove fact from a Floridian: Red mangroves produce “sacrificial” yellow leaves to dispel salt that the tree filters out. This enables the mangrove to thrive in saline-rich waters :) Maybe a couple of yellow bits on the trees could be cool??

in your glowing rune, have a candle. they float and a red one would blend in.

Wild how Gem took the time to design and custom build that second mangrove tree instead of just placing down a dark oak sapling and bonemealing it. That's dedication!

I'm not sure I've ever loved anything on Hermitcraft like I love the snails. They just tickle me so much.

I like the amount of clutter the base has. I think that the clutter leans towards it being scarier, and that if it was really clean and polished it wouldn't have the creepy Dredge feel

That magical feeling you get when gem uploads a video, and then grian uploads one 2 minutes later

The phantom wind idea is fantastic. I think it really encapsulates the spirit of the base. It's more alive than it should be.

Put the ribs inside the tunnel to Etho's, so when you're boating through it you go through the center of the rib cage. A long serpentine rib cage with a snake skull on one end would be neat.

Last week I went to a real life mangrove forest in Hong Kong and I can't describe how excited I am to watch your interpretation of one !

Gems style is on point this season! I also love the volcano idea, mumbo will be so confused XD

Fun fact that I just noticed. 3 of the four most recent seasons of Hermitcraft had a giant skull somewhere on the server. In season 7, Stress's base was a giant skull. Season 8 didn't have one, but Xisuma lived under a giant skull in Season 9, and now both Gem and stress have skulls in season 10.

I imagine in the Volcano you could have a massive lava pit at the bottom, and then with some enormous chains clinging to the sides holding up a giant platform with a PVP arena in the middle

You should have gotten the packed ice mini block. As it would suit a building which has cold storage in it. Maybe the Fisherman's house due to how all the fish that was caught needs to be stored or else they'll turn rotten.

As an anthropology nerd, I’m *extremely* happy about the addition of an anthropologist to your build! I’m especially curious as to what kind of work or research they’re doing there!

To make the rock glow, you could replace the one block with a frog light, then put item frames with map art to match the basalt? It’s kinda a grindy way of doing it, but it gives you that custom, otherworldly feel

For the glowing rune, u could make the block behind it into a stair and put a light behind so it glows through without being seen Edit- this only works in bedrock edition so it won't work

as an anthro major in uni I love the idea of an anthropologist in gems spooky base- also it could be cool to have to boat THROUGH the bones to get to Ethos

It would be super cool to have a fighting arena at the bottom of the crater where you can knock other people into the lava and have magma blocks to avoid.

I have been rewatching the episodes and I wanted to remind you that you have an elder guardian head that you could use for the fighting arena entrance or as away to add ambiante sounds throughout the base

I honestly adore watching Gem videos before I fall asleep because they are cozy. The base of this season is PERFECT for that, even though it is inspired by a horror game.

The idea of a phantom wind pulling you out to sea is my favorite type of spooky, love it

as an aspiring naturalist that grew up in an area with a ton of mangrove trees, i absolutely love when people appreciate them like you did with this video! a fun fact that i rarely ever see, except in person or in photos from local community events, is that when mangroves are in shallow water, sometimes the roots will grow back upwards into the air, and i've been in areas where the roots growing back up are so thick, they look like weird blades in a field of weird grass. would probably not be worth the effort to replicate in minecraft, but i just thought i'd share since this episode brought up happy memories for me.

It’s so cool watching Gem’s building process and to see how she thinks while she builds. I love when she does that tbh Also I’ve watched the magic mountain meeting three times already and it’s equally funny each time LOL

Idea for lighting up the rune. Armor stands on red stone lamps hooked up to daylight sensors. Slab/stair on top so that the armor stand is dim/darker. I believe armor stands act like banners in cases like this. Will probably have to do a weird diagonal thing to fit it all in though.

You can hire Cleo to help let the coral sigil glow without interfering with the armor stands! Maybe they've got some ideas and experience to make that happen.

Deepslate red stone ore with a daylight sensor to have something trigger it at night to glow could work for the rune. If you want some sort of sound to play it could also trigger that at the same time!

Gem, Anthropologists are also oftentimes archeologists. What if the anthropologist is studying the skull believing it to be a giant human. The ribcage is designed to be the little mound where the house stands over next to the mangrove canal. Instead of making the ribcage exposed out of bone, make a rock pattern into a terraformed mound and maybe some excavated parts reveal bones. :)

I actually think this base in particular, Gem, could stand to be more, if not cluttered, then packed in. It’s giving me a lot of Six of Crows/Ketterdam vibes, and I don’t know if you’ve read that (if you haven’t, you’re missing out!) but they have that old London pre-fire vibe of buildings just put wherever there was space for one, narrow, winding streets, a layer of grit and grime on everything, you’ve gotta have a dark heart to survive there kinda vibes.

If you can’t figure out how to make items glow, one thing you could do to simulate glowing is make the blocks behind the rune lighter and (if possible) more orange/yellow. Even if you do find a way to make items glow, that can still be a good way to emphasize the glowing.

I think a massive ribcage over the beach fighting area would look really cool, cause it would be part of the same skeleton the giant skull is part of!

I’m not sure if others agree, but I like the cuts even when theyre not clean. It’s all entertainment and a bit of jankiness is part of the charm and lightheartedness of good content IMO!

Idea: you could put the rib cage over the river so that you have to boat under it, that would fit the vibe you're going for.

I absolutely adore the flag lore! I love little details in builds, it always makes me so happy and I appreciate it so much! I like when there's a reason to everything or at least to a lot of stuff. You can definitely tell you put a lot of your heart into these builds and they look magnificent!

Use the ribcage to act as a support structure for the deck off that building. Could make it like the locals utulized the ancient bones to build by adding fences and wood keeping the ribs tied together!

Just a thought… central nether portal which connects to each other’s bases, and/or, a collective area for farms. Another thought… make there be random locations around the base with portions of a skeleton, these are all one skeleton, remnants of the last of a giant of a tribe of giants that once inhabited the area.

I know that you have said that an anthropologist lives in the house but I just can't stop thinking of it just being a little house where Archaeologist Pixl ended up after ESMP. Like between the skeleton over on the side, the skull and the Lore, I just get reminded of Empires. Loving the entire vibe. I love the way that each of the houses has a little bit of lore and the way that it all works together to tell a bigger story that is then interacting with the other stories around you. Truly the best season of Hermitcraft!!

Maybe adding shroomlights around the edges of the rune would give it a little bit of light? Or you could substitute the glazed terracotta for crimson root if you want the glowing to be more subtle. A red candle would also blend in with the current design if you're not willing to change it

I decided to google pictures of mangrove trees too to see what they look like and discovered that the mangroves we have in Minecraft are red mangroves, as they’re the ones who grow propagules, as opposed to black and white mangroves, which drop seeds!

I think it depends whether you want new bones or much older ones, because over time, bones get petrified. The older bones are likely related to the big skull and ancient creatures that were there long ago. But the white bones would be more fresh, coming from whales or other creatures that died recently and are roaming around still. so maybe instead of the very white bones there, you could try to integrate petrified bones in the terrain to tie in with the skull. The white bones could be used more discreetly and dispersed in the water, like they’ve recently been transported in the current of the tunnel. Or you could use both but then it might be too busy. As for the basalt symbol, maybe putting a redstone block and putting something over it, so the red glow passes through the negative space. Perhaps even hooking up a daylight sensor to it.

Idea! What if the rib cage is made of stone materials? That way, with it and the skull (and maybe future elements), lore-wise it would seem like the whole area contains the fossilized remains of a giant! Would explain the anthropologist's presence, and you could even add an archeologist if you wanted!

my one suggestion for the volcano is to add some tiered layers or some flat spots where you can keep some cherry trees!! it would be nice to keep the integrity of it's original biome, and i actually thing a lush volcano with some pink trees and green grass would be so gorgeous....

These snails are getting wildly out of shell! I think it would look spectacular if the Magic Mountain members blended the volcano with the cherry grove and made a really magical biom. The anthropologist shack is coming along nicely, liking the trees too. Maybe spread the rib bones out and use them as a base for lamps?

To make the tunnel entrance spooky, you could have the entrance be a ribcage of a sea monster like creature. so you have to boat through them to use the tunnel. Love the spooky theme going on with your base build!

The rib cage gave me the impression of bony fingers grabbing onto the land trying to pull themselves out!

Instead of having a rib cage, you could make it a bony hand to imply that the skull on the mountain is only the tip of a massive skeleton under the ground, you could have the finger bones arching over the entrance to the tunnel- it’d be sick

I like the idea that the reason its magic mountain is cuz theres so much magic or whatever that these different dimensions/worlds/realities ares spilling over around it, and gems spot just so happens to be from a creepy fishing world lol

regarding the anthropologist and the bones: I mean, as someone currently studying anthropology and archaeology, in the US archaeology is a subdivision of anthropology. Also, both are really interesting. Do whatever you vibe with, we'll love it :D
