You can steer using engine commands only…if he had two screws; which he doesn’t. Could use internal gyro scope to cause heading to shift as the gyro angle is pushed.
For a rudder to work in the air it would need to be ginormous and look very out of place. I think the ship is steering by alternating how much thrust comes out of each of the thrusters in the back.
@4203105 sorry, but that's not true, look at any airship or aircraft. Flight control is achieved by simply moving the trailing edge of the wings and tail fins. But this is fantasy, although you're right about the thrusters, in steampunk. Also Tango said it's controlled by magic. The lore therefore is that the helm he built controls the magic which in turn controls the airship. Does this mean the airship is sentient? Or is the magic unnaturally bound to the airship in forced servitude?
Hearing Tango say he's not a builder after everything he's built in my time watching him- blows my mind! I've been focusing on building more than redstone/exploration in my 8 years of minecraft and I've only just learned how to add texture and depth to houses- So cool seeing everything the hermits do, always taking inspiration from you guys!
Should build a table with some maps of the surrounding area and a cartographer station. You could use walls to make a pipe system for communication. Could have a set pop up near the Helm and engine room.
ideas to add: Life boats for emergencies, shuttle boats for loading people and supplies, coiled ropes for tying to docks, some sort of anchor, fine places to sit and dine, a place for a band, occasional fireworks
think cruise liner. Stuff that was on the titanic. Bars, Sun lounger, pools, a movie theater or art gallery, a Ballroom. Small airship life boats. emergency elytra incase you need to abandon ship.
The airship/Zeppelin is amazing! I love it! Also, if it is a people carrier, then some guest quarters would be handy. Crew quarters are also always helpful. A kitchen, dining, entertainment. Basically an old fashioned cruise ship in the skys.
You definitely need a cannon, but it's a tourist attraction, cordoned off with a mustachioed tour guide to tell the ritzy tourists about canons and let them hit the button. The button shoots a TNT off into the distance? A creeper? A bit of sand? But overall, the canon is for tourists who got on the boat and thought it was a pirate thing, and the luxury guides saw fit to take advantage
From the etho look: If I'm a ritzy tourist on the boat, on a fancy date, Where's my fancy room, where's my fancy meal, what am I doing for entertainment? Who's the chef? Where do they keep the fancy wine?
If luxury, take some inspiration from the ocean liners that had a grand hotel like interior, like the Titanic and Britannic. Like a grand staircase, cabins, ballroom, fancy dining area, gambling area, pool/sauna, lounge, etc.
Personally I'd turn the whole thing into a cargo ship, would be more fitting if you want to crates and stuff as mentioned early in the stream. Also I think a luxury ship would have more physical separation between the passenger allowed area on the deck and the machines. Anyways, which ever way you take it, it's an awesome build.
It would be really cute to have a passenger looking through the binoculars. I would recommend having Papa K lifting up baby BDubs to look through them.
The ship looks amazing!! For additional details, firework ballista with the tango fireworks? And maybe something with elytra? The crew would probably fly around to do repairs

On the bow of your airship, you can use some of the spaces to place benches. I often use beds with trapdoors on the sides so they are conveniently accessible at night, yet still decorative.
I know I usually enjoy just watching the VODs with no chat.... But I was tempted to hop on Twitch and look at chat's reaction when Mrs T said "your new topic to talk about is favorite underpants to wear to the gym"🤣
The ship could in theory be docked and have a floating platform or column adjacent that is how the passengers and cargo get on board, either by elevator or perhaps it has it's own balloons, and floats the offloaded cargo could get water streamed over and drop from that too. Loving all the details coming in, you have to suspend disbelief on any of these builds, practicality is not an option.
"bubble pipe" smoking/lounge area? gambling/roulette/craps tables/slot machines? a stage and seating area for singer or performer to entertain the guests in the evenings? buffet line? maybe a pool/hot tub on the deck!
Tango for doing the steering wheel, could you use layered armour stands with wooden pick axes in a circle with a final stand holding a centered button? Just an idea = love the ship you did a great job
Fantastic work, love how the hermits are coming together to compliment and help! I think a 'mascot' on the front is a great idea, emergency elytra like parachutes, maybe chains down some sides as a rope to lower and raise people. Seperate the big below deck into rooms for sure and many amenities and could be some fun lounge areas for LNC (stat poker, hot tub, dinner table etc) Or you could leave it and it's amazing as is haha!
I agree with that early chatter This is the best build I've ever seen in Minecraft, too. AND I WATCH BDUBS AND SCAR I forget that tango isn't JUST the redstone master

I was thinking about what Etho said, (about needing a rescue device for when people fall overboard) and what if you made a couple “break glass in case of emergency” type boxes with elytra in them?
Hey tango, airship looks amazing! If you are still looking for ideas on what to put on the deck of the ship you should add some tables and chairs for guests to sit, maybe have a drink and relax on the deck (maybe like a little restaurant or bar kinda thing?).
You need passenger cabins along the sides with the windows. Voyages won't all be day trips. Put benches on the top deck. Don't put crates on the top deck. Make a grand dining area/ball room in the middle. Think "Titanic".
iirc, toilets in old ships were just a hole in a board leading directly to the ocean, and they had a "toilet paper" rope to wipe with that reached down into the ocean to clean itself between uses. now this isn't acceptable on the airship for two reasons... 1. imagine people having to stay away from the impending doom of airships overhead, bombarding buildings and people with airturds... not a good experience i imagine... and 2. i don't think you'll find a rope long enough to touch water at all times. as scar mentioned toilets are things that shows that there are people there, just doing their thing, and should likely be added to a commercial ship, and with steampunk themes i imagine the most natural thing would be to build a waste incinerator of some sort if you do end up going that way
Man I wish I had caught the stream, the pickaxe idea was amazing he just did it wrong. Could've placed a mini gold block on the centre of the copper bulb and placed the picks in a wheel shape around the mini block!

the nav rrom should just be in the captains chamber, the current nav room should be a bar or merchant area like (etho said) that way it makes sense that the people would walk through that to get from their seats to the viewing deck
I think port is which ever side you crash into port, starboard is the side facing the stars after the ship rolls, fore is where you hide be-fore crashing, and aft is what’s left aft-er crashing…
Flip the gold picks over where the gold is against the block and the handle is what you grab to steer. Also use a trap door instead of a full block for the center

could make a battle ships game in the gaming district. just a simple one using copper blocks as the ships and lightning rods and end rods to indicate hits or misses
You could make such an accurate Wall-E with those binoculars.. so in steampunk cant those be the crew? Like robot wall-e crew. With a gold block, small blackstone slaps, small grindstone and small gold blocks you can get really close 😅.. one like shuffle chroomlinght in the engine, one mopping the floor, one working behind the bar etc..
while the binoculars don't really feel like something the captain would use they remind me a lot if the old coin opperated sight seeing binoculars and if the ship is for passengers then they would be great for them to use
Add ropes from the railings up to the balloon. A galley luxury food tables and carts. Life boats. An anchor. (Sailing traditions will always remain. No matter what, there would be an anchor).
