The monk life is calling me... I've felt it since I was 12 (I'm 20 now ). I need to stop denying it and get close to the Almighty. This is the way that will bring me to wisdom and understanding.
How is staying away from people supposed to get you closer to the almighty? Why would God make the best submitters to him be against human nature socializing with family and what not?
@@stanleystove Because god gave us all free will, and both evil and good exist in the world. Therefore, many will choose good but many will also choose evil. Therefore being away from everyone prevents encountering any possible evil.
@@XCG670 what’s wrong with Catholics ? I identify as a Roman Catholic but still strongly believe what is being told to us here, he who truly believes in God, will understand regardless of religion. And you demeaning other religions, is against gods message. As said by these elders, god wants peace love and harmony within us all, all the other differences between religions mean nothing. As long as you follow those core things, peace love and harmony.
@@XCG670 Catholics recognize the lord and Jesus Christ as their savior, not sure what you’re on about, you need to go expel your demons, lots of hatred inside of you
@@helloimclaudio Peace, love and harmony are hippie morals. Love, truth and martyrdom (everyday) are christian. Peace is with oneself, not globally. You can't be in harmony with a Lie and the father of lies. You can't serve two masters.
Christianity is a religion, so yes, this man is "religious" and is within "organized religion". This attempt by the evil one to try and take down The True Christian Religion by redefining terms will fail. Amen.
Blessed is He who is pure of heart , for they shall see God. I am so intrigued by this. I have felt that passion , but this is pure devotion. I am Humbled...
I have lived in a forest miles from the nearest town for nearly 30 years. It has it's difficulties, but I would not trade the peace and beauty of my surroundings for anything. Follow your own heart--good luck in escaping the urban jungle.
We can see the effect the anchorites have had on this ranger through their prayers. Truly, as St. Seraphim of Sarov said, acquire the Spirit of Peace, and a thousand around you will be saved.
This is pretty amazing. The ranger at the beginning is struggling to explain something so complex, beyond his understanding, beyond anyone's understanding. Even the monks cannot say what this is about, except in the simplest aspects of it.
im glad to see people from other parts of the world learning something good to use for their lives! people like this man have no money and they never dream by a famous career..
When I get out of High School I am also going out and living as a hermit monk. I want to further my faith and go where God needs me. I also would like the life style. I wonder what exactly it will be like.
This is good, but be sure to have a spiritual Father!! Just as St. Anthony of Egypt, the first monk in Christendom did. He went and spoke with the hermits living on the outskirts of Alexandria for direction. Please be careful, this can be very dangerous for a monk without direction. Seeking out a spiritual Father is very important.
makes me wonder what kind of thing such a devout follower like him did that was deemed unworthy and caused him to lose the ability to pray solely with the heart
I hear an existentialist repudiate people and the world, and I feel disgust; I hear a reactionary preach self-improvement, and I am exasperated; I hear a liberal exhort people to love everybody, and I put my head in my hands. Yet I listen to these men of God call me gently to do all three, and I feel a wonderful peace. God is great and nothing in the world can fill the space He left in us just for him.
Long time ago i ,watched this video.Since then ,every year a wtch it again and amaze me the same as the first time. The man is kind and humble,he really found the essence of true life and with his few words he's trying to explain to us.Amazing video, great and wise man
And even he claims he lost his ability to speak directly with God due to his unworthiness. That shows how much devotion is truly necessary to reach that level of a relationship with God, I’m far from that but hopefully my spirit drives me to that point one day 🙏
I am from the U.S. and I can tell you this man is a modern day Saint!!! The words he speaks are wise, from the heart, from the Spirit ...he his like a modern day Desert father like the Philokalia authors. Here in the U.S. you will almost never find such a being maybe 1 in 10 million. Because of the great schism of 1054, the West god indoctrinated into literalism and dogma minus the Spirit
makes me wonder what kind of thing such a saint like him did that was deemed unworthy which caused him to lose the ability to pray solely with the heart
wrong...read the bible and see if you find hermits there...if you have faith in Jesus Christ you are a saint, not if you live in the forest alone...that's demonic...the only character in the bible who was alone in caves was a man possessed with a legion of devils...the bible is God's word...if you don't compare with the bible...anybody can claim anything and you can't disprove them...
@@iuliua St. John the Baptist was a hermit, and monasticism originates from him. Also, do i have to remind you that Jesus himself fasted 40 days and 40 nights in the dessert alone?
@@pavlos_035 you are focusing on the less important things...the bible is all about Jesus Christ our Saviour not about John the Baptist...even John the Baptist said that he must decrease and Jesus must increase....
@@iuliua you sounds like uphold Jesus, sole Jesus, but in fact you debase Jesus because you deny his saints, his tradition, everything about him as long as it is not in the Bible, another heresy sole scripture. The result is corruptive: you only have a subjective Jesus in your mind, therefore you Protestant has a million denominations. We only have one Catholic Orthodox Church.
I hugely admire anyone that lives an ascetic way of life, from the ancient cynics to the modern orthodox, they are a living testament to what the human is capable of.
Gets good at 3:00. While many of us would not give up companionship, we can learn about gratitude, humility, and keeping a pure body from monks/hermits like this guy.

‘You may travel far and wide, to the end of the earth - if you have no love, you are nothing’ Very powerful words, sends chills down my spine and brings tears to my eyes.
I've spent a few years as a hermit. Waiting for the right time to climb down the mountain and return to the world. But. There is no right time. There are things to discover within yourself, yes, but people that discover themselves in isolation often find something that is not worth sharing. I have decided to descend, because I have to.
@dnallor24 what he meant by "this world" is the everyday, hustle and bustle of worldly life. In other words, materialism. Consuming your days by walking along the ridge of a mountain with a loaf of bread in your mouth while praying unceasingly is UTTERLY not of this world. He is on higher plane of existence, my friend. :)
to descend with your mind into hearth with/through prayer and to actually face your sins and cut them down like trees and then finally to win the one sin above all and that is Pride is truly a MIRACLE ..yet in Orthodoxy miracles are truly possible and with that said they do not exist as such because they are equally real as everything that you do and see now ...our way of life made us feel truly week and pathetic...
@RestorationistNews I agree and not just Americans value that Im brazilian I do and so many people who has respect and admiration for other people believes and faith. This man is a very special human being, with a lot to say and we all should listen with attencion so we can see how far we have being from eachother and God. doesnt matter what we believe or what religon we follow . We can feel the love and the true in people like him. God bless him and us as well.
"zasi mii" is the Moldovan pronunciation of "zece mii" which means "ten thousand". The elder is actually saying that only one in 10.000 makes it to that point.
You need to have a very good knowledge of Romanian language to fully "feel" the language and the hidden meanings of the words and the particularities, accents, use of old words, so on .... It's difficult to translate but is a good thing that this was translated!
@Miss J Exactly word to word "I didn't like the world" but the situation what means it's difficult to translate, very aproppied,it's like a...: "I didn't feel like I identified with the others" . (He don't have pleasure and happiness for materialistic live)
Soul AND body are sanctified together in our ancient Orthodox Faith. I would not recommend the Philokalia to non-Orthodox who live outside the Grace-filled Mysteries (esp. Holy Eucharist). We all must beware of Gnostic ("evil body") influences in Evragios. The source of evil, as the Lord tells us is "the heart". By the way, not all monks are "elders"; some are just "elderly". We pray for the gift of "discernment of spirits" - from the Holy Spirit which we ask for humbly from Christ our God.
that way of living should be revealed to more people. Love is the hardest but easiest thing to do in this world. But for being Love you have to love yourself and u have to love your enemies, everything in fact. Because everything is God. And your ego is just an illusion, the biggest enny of your soul. Anyway, this video is full of acknowledgments and very very interesting.
How could you possibly "perfectly know" these people if they are hermits?! How many have you met face to face, in the wilderness? The forest ranger could rarely see them but you "perfectly know" them... No wonder Americans are becoming less and less welcome around the world, offending one of the dearest people in our country, the hermits. Thank God not all Americans are like you!
