So typical. Now that she's got her voice back everyone is a fan. I've never stopped being a Lamb, not even in her worst performances. I will continue loving her until i die because i am a Mariah Lamb, not a bipolar fanatic. Ridiculous! I LOVE YOU MARIAH ♥
Much, much better. It is great to hear her sing this mostly live and mostly well. The "look inside you and be strong"s sound great. I wish she would sing the end of the bridge and the final chorus completely live; the "the way" though was transitioned flawlessly. Mariah needs to keep working on her voice; she is clearly gaining more ease of access to her registers and her range. She needs to continue working on regaining more agility and the body her voice used to have in 2005-2006, and when she was pregnant in 2010. Her essence though is inescapable. And it is easily channeled and emitted through "Hero".
Hate to tell you but she is singing this song 100% live. No lip sync here. As a live audio engineer I can tell when and if a backing track is used. Not here. No matter how good the sound system, there will always be a change in tone and volume between live and recorded because of the inconsistencies of the human voice. The audio here is consistent. Her mic is live and she's singing.
Rock the Stage NYC Well, clearly you weren't trained well. As a singer/vocalist, I can tell the difference between tonal qualities. The pre-recorded vocals are from the 1993 studio recording of "Hero" modulated down a half-step. Mariah Carey's voice now has less body and a thinner sound; the studio vocals are much fuller in quality (even more exaggerated as it's a half-step lower). Also, as I've seen almost every performance possibly ever of Mariah Carey, she uses the same vocals every time since she began lip-syncing those parts, except for a short time when she was using the vocals from her 2009 re-sung version.
Matthew Boyd Dude, I've been a professional singer probably longer than you've been alive with a highly set of trained ears. The other issue you have here is "punch in and out" of only part of a song; most performers would mime the entire song, not just a line or phrase. The timing of such a quick "punch in" can be extremely tricky to navigate even with today's technology and if the timing and levels are not perfect, its very obvious something was inserted into the audio chain. You could get away with it in sound systems of years ago but today's speaker arrays are digitally tuned and calibrated and much cleaner; it would be hard to pull it off perfectly. The simple answer would be to mine the whole song or sing it all live. On a recording like this its not perfectly obvious something was or wasn't added, but coming from a technology standpoint what you're suggesting would be far more trouble than its worth. She is singing the rest of the song just fine, why bother with such a delicate technical charade where there are more effective and less likely to fail solutions?
YAS, I never gave up faith in this woman and this is exactly why. Yes she had a bad start what could have been caused by a lot of factors but she bounced back big time. Never count Mariah out!!!!
Mariah Carey The Songbird Supreme resume and legacy is cemented in music history. She is always considered one of the greatest singers of all time. If your lip synching to your own vocals, who cares. Even though, Mariah has proven time and time again over the course of her career, that she can blow people away live.
This was an awesome performance. Her voice was in great shape here and she had the confidence to go for alot of the notes and HIT THEM. Bravo Mariah. Love you.
I'm So Glad to hear this !! i have seen some videos since the debut of her tour & i have noticed that her voice was better and better each days what a relief !!! ;)
From my perspective she sounds amazing loved the performance I'm just upset I wasn't there, I love u mariah do u boo, and ur the legend so sing the song how ever da fk u want.
It's really funny to me how if Mariah sings her OWN songs perfectly, it must be playback. Haters and so called vocalists need to really go somewhere. Mariah is one of the most technically skilled vocalists on the planet, executing complicated melisma with exact pitch, a song that she has been singing for over a decade now is a cake walk. Lets stop comparing and analyzing her voice and enjoy the fact that she is the only singer-songwriter that can still sing over he span of her 20+ year career. Mariah Carey writes the song and selects the arrangement and sings it. #ReadItAndWeep #Done #StoneWinner #ForTheNostalgia #Lambily #Lamb4Life #TheElusiveChantuese *****
no one will ever figure out what is up with that live voice. One second perfectly toned and pitched and the next off key and unfocused...i can't figure out how she could lip synch just one or few words. That 'you'll find the WAAAY.' was too perfect to be true but the words right after are clearly live and there is no change in sound or tone. A true puzzle. Probably the way she wants it to be. Voice for the ages in all cases.
I think you're right. I wish she'd get her act together and prove all the naysayers wrong. I can't hear another 'she lost her voice'. It's all there clearly.
Joey Zen I really want to see some prove of this being drunk on this tour, it's so easy said without knowing if this is a fact. Every show after the first disaster was better and she is getting even better as she continues. I would love for people to stop pretending they know why her voice was a certain way and just say I THINK because none of us have the facts unless you were with her. Can we just enjoy this and be happy how she is approving instead of talking about the negative on a great performance of a song that means the world to a lot of us.
Joey Zen Take down your opinion? no just stating that what you write is a guess not a fact. You dont have to tell me anything about Mariah and her love for the bubbles, doesn't mean she was drunk at the first show or this tour and that is exactly what I'm saying. And so what she had her problems with alcohol? Like you wrote she had her bad moments in the past but what does that got to do with this great performance now? again one of my points. I don't see why this negativity is needed when we all should be #Festive and enjoy this great moment :) And if you weren't talking about the first performance or the tour why bring it up. Don't really get that but okay.
Sunshine NL I totally agree with you, sometimes we should just learn to enjoy a great performance without bringing old shit to the table, so not necesarry. It's like giving a compliment but taking it back the next moment with some negativity or judgement. I personally love this peformance and how the tour is going. Keep it up MiMi #L4L
Well she inspired Mariah and many others , contrary to popular belief was a very smart woman , among if not the first to start her own production company and we're talking 60 years ago. So , yes.
Partially lipsynched. "THE WAAAAY" is playback and the rest is her struggling like she's been doing since 2005. So obvious. And her casual video of her "cleaning" her house/hotel room was also fake. The same person/studio software that produced the fake head whistles for recent "live" performances (GMA, anyone?) was used and inserted into that clip. So no, Mariah hasn't recovered her voice. She's going the Whitney route and it's sad tbh.
