@@saltycatgaming I did have the original version as a child that was already too hamfisted to remove the skeletons (et al) from the package so far too many became broken, plus I didn’t do anything other than look at the pictures instead of reading the rules so never really got to play so it took me until the release of 2nd edition 40k before I truly experienced tabletop gaming but I didn’t like 40k as much as I did Blood Bowl and now I have Heroquest now it’s been reprinted so finally I can read the rules and play properly again 😂
@@user-qi1jc1yn3o it's great you are gonna get a chance to play it! I had the original and played about half way through it with a group of friends, before it got stored and later pieces of it were thrown away when I moved (still got the minis somewhere, though!). I really enjoy Blood Bowl too, although that game is a bit long for RU-vid videos, unless you really really know the rules well. I've wondered about Zac and I shooting some of the 7's version of it at some point.
Well the 1989 version was hard. The newer version is better. Ppl say that it’s easier. Hasbro redesigned it. Made the rules easier to understand. But there were lots complaints that Hasbro eliminated in the 2021 version. Which I like. The Kellers keep and return of the witch lord expansion packs are just hard. So nothing to complain about. Compared to the 1989/1990s expansion packs ones. Which were just challenging. I view it like my flying model rocket building. Lvl 4 to me is advanced. I tell ppl What!!! Like it’s hard. (2021) What!! Like it’s challenging. It’s just hard.
@@saltycatgaming welcome ohh oops forgot. A suggestion u guys should get stools to sit down on. But 🤷If it will fit in those spaces. I’ve got pronating flat feet. So sitting down will take the pressure off my feet. But then again But 🤷If it will fit in those spaces.
I know that you played this game a year ago. The rules does state that if another Hero is in the same room with the dying Hero, he automatically pickup is dropped equipment. In this case the Wizard would have automatically picked up the Barbarian broadsword and could have given it to the Dwarf. Now, the Dwarf would have 3 attack dice and the Barbarian died in glory. Not sure if the Wizard can handle a short sword. Also, the Wizard get the same number of dice with or without a dagger. The reason, he has a dagger is to give him a short / single use range attach. It always good to carry many daggers, if you don't have range weapons.
I found second quest I had a similar game just no dice were going my way. 3rd quest I as the wizard had 90% of the kills because dice just went with me the whole game. Was a brilliant round, got quest 4 this coming weekend and really looking forward to it. We tend to stick together, found splitting up is not the best strategy so far, that may change but as it is we have all so far made it out alive if only just.
@Salty Cat Gaming we are teaching the kids and have to squeeze in games when my friend has an evening off, she works at a stables so mostly works every day. We have a good laugh with the game and take our time but only do 1 per evening. Although there is talk of 2 this week but I dont think her daughter could stay awake for that. Mine would be right up for it but hers prob couldn't focus or stay awake for that long.
It's a great game for kids, I was gonna suggest it to a friend of ours to play with his son. Just FYI, if there's a time crunch, 1 or 2 of the quests (Quest 10 for sure) can go really long.
@Salty Cat Gaming thanks for the heads up. Will run that past everyone and make sure we pick a night when we have the extra time lol. Will tell friends daughter to take a nap in the day lol.
Thanks! I painted all the minis. Tried to keep them all as simple as possible to burn through with the normal base/shade/drybrush and used citadel contrast for skin tones.
Getting the game for Christmas and was after a playthrough to learn the rules. I think I'll play each quest and then watch how you guys go. Just a quick question. Why does the channel say that there are 3 hidden episodes? Are they scheduled to be uploaded? Looking forward to watching more. Thank you for the multi-angles of the board. The sound is excellent!
Huh, not sure why it says there's hidden episodes, possibly because I have some bad uploads that I've never deleted but are not visible, will need to take a look. We did just film quest 6 and 7 which I'll be gradually uploading over December. Glad you enjoyed the video and congrats on getting the game! Hope you enjoy playing it!
I really want to get into this game and play it, but there is just too much reliance on dice RNG. I love a good dice chucker, but I need ways to mitigate a string of bad rolls. It didn’t look like you guys were having fun at all.
Quest 1 is rough, but it gets better after that. We have fun playing most of the quests, but there's a few that have mechanics that are a bit annoying. I'm hoping we're going to start getting games of DungeonSaga Origins in the next couple of months, which you might like more than HeroQuest. Characters in that game can level up and have various abilities, not just equipment.
I thought about prefacing all of these with a spoiler alert, and we occasionally do call that out but eventually gave up thinking anyone who is watching an episode is probably already aware they're spoiling the quests.
In our latest play episode, which isn't posted yet, they seem to have fixed that. It caught us by surprise cause we were so used to hearing some comment from Zargon that we weren't sure the app had not crashed.
Its a bit BS there are dread warriors in the first mission, especially that one room that has 2. They are pretty much the toughest monsters in game. I would change those to abominations.
I always play as the game master and if I don't like the layout of monsters for that particular quest I modify it. I even have used miniatures that where not included with the game to create new villains for the final dungeon
Dread warriors are fine in the first quest. I went through that quest 3 times this past year, twice with people who have never played the game before, and every time they beat the quest. And the third time, the quest was beaten with only 3 characters instead of 4 with a homebrew initiative system so the players didn't always get to go first. I think the bigger problem is a lack of challenge in the other quests, and it's not as fun if you're not getting challenged
