When you receive a totem fragment from a Titan Artifact Sphere, from a Totem Sphere - such as a Lesser Elemental Spirit Summoning Sphere - or for emeralds, the guaranteed totem drop will shift to the next milestone. In other words, obtaining any totem fragment from any source will move the guaranteed drop to the next value. However, when receiving a fragment from a Totem Sphere, not only the guaranteed threshold will shift, but also the statistics of spent emeralds. For example, you had two totem fragments and spent 45,000 emeralds in the Altar of Elements. Upon opening a Lesser Elemental Spirit Summoning Sphere, the statistics of spent emeralds will change from 45,000 to 466,667. The next totem will drop on the 850,000 emeralds spent threshold. When a totem is dropped from a regular opening of a Titan Artifact Sphere, the milestone will still move to the next value, but the counter of spent emeralds will remain unchanged. For instance, you had two totem fragments and spent 45,000 emeralds in the Altar of Elements. After receiving a totem from a Titan Artifact Sphere, the statistics of spent emeralds will be 45,000, and the next totem will drop on the 850,000 emeralds spent threshold.
