I'd start with the latest fast forces as that gives you a good start point. Then maybe pick up a few boosters of the latest set (assuming you like the theme of the set). I learnt to play during the Fear Itself tournament and as long as your local good players are friendly its a really good way to learn quick. I was fortunate enough to learn a lot from a guy who was the UK champion and also finished 2nd the last two years running, genuinely nice guy. If your UK based drop me a pm as I sell my spare commons/uncommons off so might be some nice pieces you can get cheap.

On the base there is a colour around the set icon. White = common Green = Uncommon Silver = rare Gold = super rare Colour for chases varies and quite often the whole base is a different colour.

Depends where you are based. Im in the UK and I pre-order mine but i do know of stores that carry stock on the shelf.
