It's true that some aspects ruin the original heroes 3, but you can play anytime the original one because wog doesn't replace it, you play can play them both when you want so there is no harm in having it. :D
Problem is that this fan made expansion is a very personal thing with idiosyncracies. As the replies to your words show, trolls are faster and better attackers. They would be awesome in a barbarian lineup. However Ogre Magi have always been high-hp, high defense creatures that are very hard to kill. Barbarians need damage sponges because their tier1-3 are all too weak to survive retaliation. By turning Ogre Magi into lower hp trolls, you focus on attack at risk of your defense.
Looks a little overboard to me. (eg Santa Gremlin?) Providing further upgrades to established level 7 creatures is also somewhat against HOMM tradition. Why not provide some alternative upgrade paths within a creature generator to allow a castle to subtly alter either class or tactics (might/magic or melee/flyer/shooter)? Thanks for sharing though, it's great to see HOMM3 is still being tinkered with. Everything that has officially come since is very poor imo.
+Ben Price I agree, I consider Heroes 5 the last great Heroes, behind 3 for including alternative upgrades. Halberdiers to Nomads? Wow... how anti-climatic. What sucked about Heroes 5 was the graphics engine being so clunky, hard to notice the grid to move, laggy, etc.
The upgrade buildings seem to be taken from might and magic (MM) games, and I think they fit nicely. i have the WoG, but from what i see, there's quite a number of upgrades are not available in the one i played like medusa empress, electricity elemntal etc... the graphic are a bit different either...the diamond dragon is light blue & the blood dragon is pink in color....can somebody clarify this?
Yeah, I agree. When I heard about this mod, I thought, wow, I need to try it.. Though I really enjoyed the gameplay, when I first saw it I was a bit disappointed, that everything was just recolored. Maybe I will reanimate some stuff in it if I'll have the mood and the time.
I tried WOG. I love the fact that you can chose which features you want or not (except for the trees animation that I hate). It can be really good if you just "Wogify" a few stuff (cause lots of it is pure crap). Unfortunatly, it crashes quite sometimes and even with auto-saving you will not be able to get your game back which is really frustrating.Thats a good enough reason for me not to use it. Does it happen to you guys aswell?
@ring8824 then u click to play scenario or campaign,in left side is button "wog option" click on it,then click on "map options and enchantements" tab.And need to tick 2 scripts, they are:universal creature upgrades and extended creature upgrades.When u tick thems,u can make 7lvl creature upgraded 3x.but sadly not all weaker monsters are upgradeable,such as genie or marauders.
@CreativeLightBeings8 i agree,this expansion pack really changes entire gameplay,but it is for homm players who are tired of original features,and want something new content
If they haven't changed their attack to the one they had in WOG, then - they attack with the ice-bolt-spell. - they are surrounded by gremlins (to protect against melee) - those lvl1-gremlins won't move but attack enemies nearby.
lol forget what I said, I've been playing it quite alot for the past week and it DOES crash occasionally, usually when opening a town. The mod I'm using is Hero Of Light 3.2 (you can find it in the Heroes community forums) and I don't think it is supposed to crash as much as it does for me (even though it's not enough to make me stop playing since there's auto saves each turn and the game boots up very quickly). And yes, I'm using Windows 7 64 bit.
I always heard how much people love this mod, and this guy named Salamander rammed it through one of the major fan forums and such, I never saw what was good about it. What turned me off significantly, was the overwhelming usage of artwork from other Heroes games, and what it looks to be, other peoples random artwork that doesn't have any synchronized, consistent art theme in the mod. If you look at all the various pictures, they never "fit in", never look similar to the next one. Its like shoving Heroes 1/2 graphics into 3, which I bet they did too. Nothing is explained lore-wise, to fit in, and WoG storytells in the sense of continuation of the world, (like explain Santa Gremlins). The upgrades to units like in this video, like Horned Demon to Werewolf... Ogre Magi, to Troll??? I heard the Ghost Behemoth was god awfully unbalanced long ago, along with the rest of the Lvl-8 units - and Santa Gremlins? Everything seems so anti-lore. This mod might seem like an enhancement to Heroes III for everyone, extending the love of the game, and this dedicated fan work; the many visions contrast each other in it, and it makes the mod look ugly. The mods always needed some criticism, because New World Computing would never consider this a faithful continuation of content for this treasure, but a hefty mod of exhausting work.
I really like the Boar Rider upgrade for Hobgoblins though :). But Ogre Magi's upgrade to Trolls is a dissapointment, since, well, Trolls are more stupid than Ogres. Especialy Ogre Magi. Though they are tougher, bc of their regeneration ability, they're still more stupid. Regarding Tower though: I REALLY like their upgrades, bc all of them makes sense, and looks cool, are cool and sounds cool. But to be honest, the Santa Gremlins are just plain hilarious XD.
So far, everyone should be able to see that the release date cannot be sure, could not be set. The creators` expectations were different from what happened later. One of them just marry, the others do something else... So perhaps nothing can be predicted. To wait without any expectations is... You do very well.
Well yes, some of the creatures must be remade (or, at least, refined). The green dragon with 3 hydra heads is a goronich... If I don`t mess the right term.
Not to me, there are tons of different variations of the mod that can be found at HOMM communities, the last one i downloaded works fine, it also has extra stuff since its a mod for the mod itself, and it really does make the game better, especially since, like you said, each feature can be enabled and disabled to your liking.
@shleenkoff For some of them you're right. But generally I'm glad with this patch - while waiting for Heroes III HotA and WoG 3.59 we need to play something different and new :)
@TheVooDooTaco i only know if u open hero interface and u click ctrl on elf he can become centaur archer but u need 1 minotaur captain and 1 elf ranger

First, you need to install the last WoG patch (3.58f, so far). Then you just check your WoG options - when you`re about to start a game, the button is up right =)
To all jokers - while making fun of it don't forget, that this was a FINISHED project, after a long silence from all Heroes III developers. So it deserves respect. Also, I hope that you first played it, before to criticize :)
The original is cool, but some of this unofficial add-ons can improve the balance in the game. Do not forget also for these many bright ideas, comming with the paches. And also - many of these fans-creators are experienced script authors, programmists...
@Aberov You are wrong. Check HOMM3 Wake of Gods and look for the final version. There is even newer which have even more units. Personally I have played that expansion with all these units and there are so much stuff like that heroes have captains which are also gaining upgrades and have their seperate type of artifacts. The game is just UNIQE!!!!!
Many of te upgrades feel a bit cheaply done. just photoshops of originals or upgrades to established creatures that do not make sense like the nomads. Also HOTA > WOG.
@restinpeacefrozen I also have problems with its intalling sometimes... Did you follow the install recommendations? Try to install it together with another small mod, like exstra battlefields or something...
I think that they should have made a new upgrade for the Genies instead of the Golems because the Efreet Sultan is already stronger than the Master Genie, plus he's 6th level while the Master genie is fifth and BTW the name of the spell is Titans Thunder not Titans Lightning Bolt

hello i have a question how the heck the creatures from enemy heroes get upgrated day after passing day while i remain with getting the experience only from the battles is there any option to disable?? the computer is too strong to beat
Evangelion gave funny names, that made me to laugh. In the other hand, I disagree - at that time, this patch was like a fresh air for many WoG players - finally something new! And if someone don't like WoG, that usually means that he don't know it. No matter, we're free to choose our favorite HoMM 3 version =)
what i have to do to get these upgrades i build all the buildings but only (for example) Ghost Dragons are upgrading i cant upgrade the hobgoblins or any units of that kind for example i cant upgrade the iron golem to a gold golem. Please HELP! :( sorry for my english im bulgarian
i do agree that a zombie should become a mummy, the gold dragon changed to a diamond dragon would be ok, i guess, iron golem = gold golem would be ok, but i would have gone with steel golem tho
Hey can someone give me a hand??? I installed the WOG Patch and the New Upgrades Patch and still nothing! when I go into the Capitol building or right click on the Castle I still can't build Escaton's Crystal Is there something else I need to install???
Well, "expansion" is too big word for that - just a patch. But very intriguing indeed =) And the creator is working on the update. It might grow into expansion, heheh...
aham.. people, u got confused by the less description of what this is :) this is an unofficial expansion of homm 3. the idea behind this, i think, is a different version of homm 3 that was amplified 10 times in complexity, challenges and computer smart moves. the computer is a GOD if u play on impossible. it's really complex and mostly recommended to the hardcore players that would like to play homm 3 to the MAX! because that's what it is. you cannot possibly make it more complex then this :)
Ballista isn't that bad, because you can controll your towers in a battle, which can bring the turn! but you're right, eagle eye, learning, scholar and mysticsm are never used^^
why when I installed thsi upgrade for wog old wog chars like water golems , air goelms and others was deleted? with this upgrade I have new chars but others (golems ,ice archers and fire archers ) was deleted instead of them the I got new chars , but why I cant have old chars plus new? pls help =\
Heheh, you might be right. But we`re always missing something while doing the other part. With H M&M III I used to play a lot of Final Fantasy games and other stuff =)
Mineral Elementals. Meh, they are cool, statwise and all that, doesn't look too bad, but, the name is kind of sucky. But, it's a cool elemental though ^^. I really dig the Hell Baron ^^. 'tis funny that is was once called Antichrist ^^. I understand why they renamed it, since I've read that people didn't like the idea of Christ running around in Erathia hehe. Besides, Hell Baron just sounds so much cooler and better.
