[PLEASE WATCH TO THE END OF THE VIDEO FOR A FUN MONTAGE I PUT TOGETHER. THIS ONE WAS VERY ENTERTAINING FOR ME]
Time to talk about the most underrated, and probably most under appreciated, warrior in For Honor! Nuxia.
This one was not easy. Nuxia, like most of the Wu Lin, has very little to work off of in terms of lore. In fact, I'd argue she was treated worse than any other Wu Lin warrior. With all the others, I could at least see SOME reference to a Chinese historical warrior, but with Nuxia, there's quite literally none. Her name literally just means 'female warrior.' But after some careful thought and consideration, I decided to go a little deeper, and based on my own thoughts and perspectives on the character, I am convinced that Nuxia is most likely based on wuxia heroes of Chinese fantasy literature. This Heroes in History will do more than just discuss the Nuxia as a character, but also the literary genre of wuxia and how nuxia might just tie into it.
I hope ya'll enjoy!

I’ve played For Honor faithfully since the beta. No other character strikes a genuine fear and unease than when I encounter a Nuxia in battle. I’m out here fully armored, shielded and serious (BP Main) and then she rolls up literally prancing and dancing with an attitude of playfulness, and the entire time I’m worried about her using my own blocks and counters against me. It’s freaking awesome! Thanks for the history lesson!

Been using Nuxia as main for a week now and I love her moveset. A bit difficult to learn having been a Conqueror main for the majority of the time but she's been awesome to use. I love her history and methodology so thank you Raven Knight!! Still wishing for a Chinese warrior with Chuí (ball hammers) or at least a knight with a mace but Nuxia is definitely one of my top favorites nowadays

That take about strong women in media just being a man without the man part is so fucking true
@RavenKnightYT
@RavenKnightYT 2 года назад
It is. That’s why I can’t stand hearing about “strong women” in media, because I know it’s a lie. They aren’t strong women. They are women acting like men while men around them act like idiots. I’m sick of that trope.
@bored3542
@bored3542 2 года назад
@@RavenKnightYT how does a women act like a man
@RavenKnightYT
@RavenKnightYT 2 года назад
@@bored3542 Excellent question. To answer, let me start by presenting the typical male characteristics in most stories. Male lead characters are often strong, powerful, independent, and charismatic. These are the things that tend to define them because they are typical male traits...things we expect in male characters because we expect men to embody some or all of these traits. Typically, female lead characters lacked the same strength of their male counterparts, but they made up for it by being smart, cunning, witty, and elegant. Embodying qualities that women were often expected to embody in real life. Now, is it wrong for a woman or man to take traits from the other? Absolutely not. It's totally fine. But...when a female lead character walks into the field and is so STRONG that nothing can defeat her, so POWERFUL that she faces no obstacles that challenge her, so INDEPENDANT that any side character is made irrelevant as a result, and so CHARISMATIC that no one dislikes her and everyone respects her, the hollywood media likes to call this character 'a strong female character' when all they've really done is just given her all of the qualities of a MALE protagonist and bumped them up to 11. In that case, what about her is special as a woman? I'm not saying a woman can't be these things, but if you changed her gender, would there be any difference? That is my criticism. I'm not saying every woman has to adhere to female character traits and tropes, but simply making a female character have only standard masculine traits and calling it 'strong female characterization' is kind of lying, isn't it? See, my favorite female characters were always the ones who were not as strong as the men around them, so they were smarter, cunning, and even, at time, manipulative. Laura Croft, Princess Leia Organa, Nico Robin, Black Widow, and Mariam Ravenwood. In short: how does a woman act like a man? It's not really an issue if they act like a man or embody male traits...but just don't call it 'strong womanhood.' Call it 'masculinity with a feminine frame.'
@bored3542
@bored3542 2 года назад
@@RavenKnightYTi like what you mostly said when you said strong powerful independent charismatic it kinda of remind me of Ray and I didn't really like her ray from star wars. But how is being charismatic an independent male trait isn't every person independent other than babies who need their mother's womb and charismatic isn't that just a human trait
@plussum3255
@plussum3255 2 года назад
I personally wouldnt mind female leads with more masculine traits, but most times they are done poorly seemingly without much thought or innovation, merely just some flair to try and make people watch their show or tv rather than a deeper more meaningful. Or just being a crap show lmao

Something to know about Ip Man (The second movie he references after Yuri Boyka) is based on a true story. The movie follows Yip Man (also known as Ip Man) who was born October 1st, 1893, in Foshan, China. He studied Wing Chun and went on to become one of the most respected martial artists of his time, due to his contributions during the massacres the Japanese carried out against the Chinese during WWII. Yip Man trained many students, but one of his most famous was, of course, Bruce Lee. The movies are a very good watch, and it gives a good idea of what the Chinese went through during those times. In fact, about two thirds of China's entire casualties during WWII was from the Japanese occupying China and massacring its citizens. This fact isn't really taught in (at least to my knowledge) U.S. schools due to treaties between the U.S. and Japan.

In reality Wulin or in China literature terms : Jianghu is basically the Wild West. Where Authority can't reach, vigilantes and gangs thrives. Honour of thieves and Oaths matters more than the Written Law. Only instead of revolvers people do Kung Fus instead. And replace the Saloons with Inns. Nuxia is basically an Female Wulin equivalent of a Western Lone Wanderer.

So, if the Nuxia is based on the Wuxia, I kind of wonder who the Tiandi are based on considering that we don't know much of them outside of that the main male Tiandi was once a prince and the main female Tiandi was a protector of a queen...though both do happen to be disgraced in some way so guess that can help with the research I suppose.
