It's such a crying shame that this intro was not used for the final, meaning I would have loved to see Mariachi butterfly characters give a shot at telling the story of the three heroic cows. I would NEVER have taken offense to these characters just because they were speaking Mexican and dressed like mariachis as I myself NEVER took offense to Joe Carioca, Panchito, Speedy Gonzales, The Mariachi Owls (Rango), Tito (Oliver and Company, Ray the firefly (Princess and the Frog), or Elena of Avalor. So I don't see anything offensive about these guys other than being a reminder of the other characters I mentioned, and people should learn not to be so oversensitive about such things. I'm sure these guys would have loved to sing for the movie "Coco".
I bet if this had been kept the mariachi butterflies would’ve appeared every once in a while making comments & singing more mariachi songs, even interacting with the characters 🦋🦋🦋
Those silent films are all public domain, so what permission was needed? The real reason was this opening did not fit in with a film about female empowerment centering on cows, because that's what the world was clamoring for.
Minespatch. But the muses from "Hercules" were female narrators in a film about a male protagonist, so I don't see the problem there and I don't see anything wrong with this intro at all which would have been a great opening, no matter what gender the narrators were. I mean even the Mariachi Owls were presented in Rango well.
Who wanted to see Home on the Range though? If Disney followed through with their western version of Pied Piper of Hamlin, we still would've had the Greecian Mariachi chorus. So not gender politics but story telling techniques. Shame Disney focused on politics instead of focusing on what they intended.
Minespatch. I did, that's for sure. Maybe not everyone in the whole world, but someone still cared enough to see it. But how can Disney forget that there were female narrators for Hercules and not think male narrators like the Mariachi Butterflies would have been appropriate for a female league story? That's just ridiculous and odd. Don't tell me this was the start of a period where people would be offended by anything not meant to be taken seriously whenever a character was not completely American.
