The herons usually coexist well with the turtles and geese, but on this day the heron rushed at the geese that were sitting in his favourite shoreline fishing spot. I noticed while behind him, watching him fishing, that the feather pattern coming down his neck and breast, extended to include all of the lower part of his body. Also there seemed to be a build-up of minnows in his neck after swallowing a few in quick succession. He had to wait some time before the swallow cleared the swelling in his neck. The last photos were taken the next day when the rain had begun. The water level was up and there were no other birds around. Both the blue heron and a green heron were there at that time.
