Your choice to use Sergeant Johnson as your subscribers first introduction to the Halo series is a great choice in my opinion. His backstory touches on multiple areas of the Halo lore, while still remaining a primarily human story. If anything, I think is what makes Johnson so likable and even relatable. Everyone knows that the Master Chief is special and one of a kind super soldier, but Johnson is human. He’s a human and he stays cool under pressure. We get to see his facial expressions, which makes him relate to us even more. By making a video on Johnson, you’ve shown people who are new to the series just how important the human aspect of the series really is. The marines in general are a great factor, but Johnson is their face and I think that makes him such a hero. By being a normal human, that makes him all the more relatable than even the Master Chief.
Johnson reminds me of my grandpa to be honest. He's old school, loves a smoke, gives suprisingly good advice and laughs in the face of potential death. I think that's part of why Johnson is one of my favourite characters.
I started playing halo as a really young kid with my dad. I remember being really upset when I saw Johnson die because he reminded me of my father. And of course the ending of Halo 3 made me cry a ton. Man, I forgot how amazing the story in this series is!
Watching this reminded me so much of Colonel Hoffman from Gears of War; definitely very similar, yet distinctly different. If you're a fan of the franchise, I'd be stoked to see a video on my favorite character in that universe. As always, can't wait for the next one regardless!
I usually think it’s corny when people say “this channel deserves way more subs” but this channel truly fits the bill. The quality, the amount of content, your unique speaking talent, it’s just crazy that you don’t even have 30k. So many bums are popular on RU-vid, it’s a shame
Johnson never fails to make me laugh. A lot of people love "Oh, I know what the ladies like.", but I think my favorite will always be "You told me there wouldn't be any cameras." "You told ME you were gonna wear something nice!"
Sgt johnson is a real hero. It is a crying shame that the halo show didn't put him in. When companies are so focused on Wokeness they would rather raceswap or make new POC characters instead of adapting this based chad.
My headcanon is that Sgt. Johnson is an immortal born during the stone age. Would explain how, when he started fighting in war, the only tools/ weapons he had were sticks and rocks.
9:25 I used to be more of a batman fan...then it processed for me that he's a billionaire who instead of going to therapy spends his evenings working off his childhood trauma by beating the crap of people poor people and people in need of mental health services, when if he actually cared about justice he'd put his considerable wealth and political clout toward the kinds of programs and projects that would actually address the root causes of crime, or turned his considerable mind and investigative abilities formally to the service of the DA's office; his father was a surgeon while running Wayne corp, he could easily have been a PI.
You seem confused. Criminals can't just be equated to poor and crazy people. This is a very weak mindset and very dangerous. The vast majority of people who commit crime simply do it because they want to. Most poor people are not criminals. There are already numerous philanthropists who fund these "programs". They achieve nothing. The only language criminals understand is violence.
Sgt.Johnson: * is trying to sacrifice himself for the good of humanity, other alien races, and justice * The flood cells and Mk1 spartan augments and cells in his body: "LEFT LEFT LEFT RIGHT LEFT"
Avery was one of my childhood heroes, especially after reading “Contact Harvest”. Interestingly enough out of everything I remember about the book I completely blocked out the sex section near the end of the book. Like I absolutely finished the book, but my mind just like completely blocked that portion of the book from my memory, so it was a surprise when I re-read it as a teenager!
As a Halo fan since day 1, your videos are really captivating, a different approach, on a content I already know by heart as it is my favorite fiction. Big props to you king
I think the Seneschal would probably be a better pick but maybe he could roll both characters into one video seeing as how they are pretty closely related.
Absolutely hyped to see you cover more Halo sometime, it has been my favorite series for as long as I can remember and I will gladly be here for more Halo and whatever else. Stellar shit dude
I think a Heropedia for Private Jenkins would be cool to see. I think it would even overlap with this video with Johnson and how Jenkins was a key person during the Event of Halo: Combat Evolved. Also one on Chipps Dubbo would be fun because of his impact on the community
Small thing, but johnson *can* be heard in reach over the comms. Specifically right after jorge throws you off the corvette, when the camera cuts to the full fleet arriving at reach
My brother is in the US Marines and after seeing this video of Avery Johnson’s story in halo, I’m pretty sure that my brother would fight alongside with him in any war at this point.
6:30 1stSgt Johnson is a Marine! he's not in the Army lol. Also at 6:47 you can see his rank is First Sergeant, although i think he was a Staff Sergeant in the first Halo game. I can't remember if the characters refer to him as just "sergeant," but any marines i know would get very butthurt if you don't specify what type of sergeant they are.
Can we all just take a moment and appreciate the fact that Johnson stood toe-to-toe with an Elite and actually landed an offensive blow?! Think about that for a second. He's engaged by an opponent who has a MAJOR physical advantage, yet he's composed and focused enough to adequately react. Granted, he's a step or five above your average Marine, but for any non Spartan to be able to handle it like that speaks VOLUMES about how badass he actually is. Also, great video and +1 sub from me👍
I feel like a Guilty Spark vid would be damn near 2 hours long. His backstory is probably the most complex in a lot of sci-fi, definitely the most complex in Halo.
i remember being a very young kid (like single digits age) when i first saw Sgt. Johnson die in halo 3. was my very first experience with "loss", even if it wasn't real. halo, and especially Sgt Johnson will always remain in a very special place in my heart
The ORION program was essentially the Spartan 1 program that lost funding before they could be given early versions of the Mjollnir armor. Spartan 2 program was the Spartan 1 program from scratch where the 3 program was like 2 but was rushed and faulty. Fun fact some may not realize about Halo Reach is that Spartan Jorge isnt a Spartan 3 like the rest of Noble hes a Spartan 2 like John-117 basically there as a supervisor and guide. Its why Halsey seems to like Jorge where she clearly doesnt like the others because theyre essentially false copies of her children
Why they would continue the story after Halo 3 is beyond me. When they released Halo: ODST and Halo: Reach, those games were a gold mine in the Halo universe. Unraveling questions and giving canon answers, all from a completely different perspective. In my opinion, they should have left the story at Halo 3, and continued going back. There's a whole window of opportunity to tell new stories about key historical Halo events. I'd absolutely adore a game that you explore the civil war against the insurrection as a Marine. Make it a whole damn series, PLEASE. Let Master Chief finally chill, and give someone else the spot light.
My list of heroes 1. Jak and Daxter 2. Master chief halo series 3. Doom slayer doom series 4. Batman Arkham series 5. Spider man 6. William blaskowitz Wolfenstein 7. Duke Nukem 8. Nicholas raine rage 9. John Marston RDR 10. Ratchet and Clank
I played halo 3 as soon as it came out. I was never more excited for a video game. I got the special aluminum Mountain Dew bottles and everything. To this day, “Send me out with a bang” still chokes me up.
I whole heartedly agree that the lack of Sgt. Johnson is what makes the halo games after Halo 3 inferior (4, 5, and Infinite. I've never played the spin-offs)
I still prefer Bungie's humans are forerunners story to 343's "forerunners are aliens that literally call themselves forerunners for like, reasons..." God I hate 343 and everything they've done to Halo. Everything.
All I needed was the music in the beginning. Also, your "The Master" video was awesome, btw. I wish we got an enemy like them again. Especially with the writing.
You should do a video on Kazuma Kiryu or some other aspect of the Yakuza series. Super interesting themes are explored, particularly in Yakuza 2, about responsibility and the necessity of following through on your actions
2:04-2:15 I didn't know Sgt. Johnson was from Chicago-area! Lolll Thats great it all makes so much more sense now. I'm born n raised Chicago!!! Wooo!!!!!
what did he overcome that makes him such an inspiration? It sounds like he went to war to be a good guy, didn't really do bad things (the sniper thing isn't exactly his fault), then fought aliens?
Man, tin bot straight up disrespected the giga-chad, didnt even give him an honorable last battle. Unless there was something happened since didnt play any halo games but halo wars and 4 (though cant remember much)
Apparently the halos can't hurt the flood at all, which is why they are still around... The rings fry sentient life that the flood need to operate... which is hyper inconsistent and doesn't make any sense... but whatever XD
Gosh, the real life series just messes up the original story. Their first mistake was showing us MC's face. Their second was making the sarge dummy thick
Important mistake: Johnson started training the kids before the covenant was discovered, and they were closer to 8yrs old. There's a reason he hates himself in later life.
Johnson had to have so much personality because he had to make up for Chief's lack of one. Master Chief is a badass, but he was fairly flat for most of halo so Johnson had to pick up the slack.
Anyone notice when truth activates the thing and all the ring lights representing the halos light up, the 4th one representing installation 04 doesn't light 'cause chief destroyed it :O
i want to point out that even during the death of a long time friend, directly in front of him - and never took his helmet off. fuck that new halo show
