Heroscape is my all time favorite game - no competition. I own multiples of all master sets, terrain expansions and figure expansions. Bloody brilliant and fun game!
Found the core set at a yardsale this weekend for $1! It's complete with what I think are a couple of booster packs. Never played it but looking forward to it!
They should bring back Heroscape. One thing that Arena of the Planeswalkers did right was the base board already set up. Arena of the Planeswalkers base board plus Heroscape terrain. Fast to set up and overall really fun
Thanks for posting. I watched the video totally confident that you would be giving a thumbs up. If you had not, I should have...been vexed. Love, love, love, love Heroscape. Buy a base set, maybe some extra tiles and make or proxy anything else... I will not pay £100+ for three or four plastic toy soldiers. Join Heroscapers, and you have a lifetime for exploring the game. I doubt it will ever be reprinted and if they did they would find a way to make all existing collections obsolete. With practice you can set up, play and tear down in a single day. Sorry, I am gushing.
Hasbros biggest error with this and all the other big IPs they own is trying to create crossovers. If I wanted to play MtG I’d play MtG…I don’t need D&D themed Heroscape. I would’ve just played D&D4e… Heroscape charm is that it stood on its own. It was unique.
Normally I don't recommend doing this, but given how good this game is and how expensive/hard to find parts of it are, I highly, highly recommend checking out the tabletop simulator module for it. It's a fantastic way to play, unlike with more hidden-information type wargames like columbia block games.
heroscape came out when I was like, ten maybe, and I think it cemented my love of the Miniature world. Like, it got me interested in dnd mini’s, which led into the actual game, and I’m only interested in Warhammer/Hordes/insert-miniature-war-game has to be heroscape. But nothing quite captures that childlike charm of this game. It’s just so flashy, and honestly a kids dream. What child doesn’t wanna see the army man fight a dragon . . .but there’s also robots and zombies. It was just the perfect storm at the perfect time for me. I’ll never get over this damn game
Being late to the game, my collection has cost me about the value of a small car... so it fits being stored in the garage;o) Fav. game, thx for the review! Squads are fun, cause one can control multiple units easily. Downside (especially with customs) one needs loads!^^ History was troubled, being handed around. I'll mix core units with D&D. Marvel doesn't really fit, but also not enough to play solely:( And I agree about the reprint (3d printers, come on), but whart I really don't get, is why isn't there a virtuell version yet? Would diminish the upkeep? And still so much to add to, too... Terraforming abillities? Brazin' Bollocks;o)
I have the base set and Orm's return. Unfortunately I was young and broke when this product was on sale but I had friends who bought everything so at least I got to try it out. Come on Hasbro, I want to give you my money.
Hasbro has heard you and wants your money. New Heroscape master set was announced yesterday on twitter. No joke, Heroscape: Age of Annihilation is coming.
I'm not even that interested in board games but your "Michael Rosen's menacing cousin" energy both amused and threatened me into clicking the subscribe button.
I loved this game growing up, not only would be play normally but we'd make up new games with it too. We had so many little addons and castles and whatnot I'm so devastated that it's almost all missing after moving so much over the years
Never actually knew how to play this but my bro and I have so many different heroscape figures and sets and so many pieces to build it's like 3-4 boxes. Great video.
@@zimtheinvaderofficial I've played many many times. We just made our own rules I guess using the attacks and defense and dice to move just never properly 😂
Ive actually done some experimentation and found out there are 3d printing files online to print many heroscape models! Some are a bit shoddy, but Ive printed a few models so far successfully, which helps deal with the cost of collecting, so if you have a 3d printer its absolutely worth to print out some out of print minis
I have never played Heroscape, but I actually really enjoyed the Planeswalker game and expansions. I like the magic cards, which I get the impression are not part of Heroscape. I wish Planeswalker had the nice painted minis and more terrain tiles (I bought a bunch to add elevation to the game), but maybe it’s a good place to dip your toes into the Heroscape system since it’s still pretty cheap to get a copy? I think I’m going to buy the Heroscape Valkyrie set to add to my Planeswalker game. I think they’re close enough that they’d probably work. Happy gaming to you. Looking forward to the next review.
I was fortunate to get this game as it came out and accumulated multiple base sets of each base set and multiple of each expansion. I would agree with the cons, the way we play its one 8 hour day to set up and build armys, one 10 hour day to play and 4 hours to put away. Due to the huge time commitment, it rarely happens.
Great video, really looking into it. I didn’t get why hasbro stopped printing this, it really would succeed. All the terrain in heroscape really seems to bring out the creativity and realism of the game, design, etc. Do you have any suggestions on where to start? Like for instance, which master/core set would I get if I’m just looking into buying the game? They are all generally more expensive than a lot of games out them like MTG, because they quit printing it.
Rise of the Valkyrie to start as it’s the cheapest one. Then go from there based on what you can afford. I made my own terrain as you can see in the video and it works really well. There’s also the arena of the planes walkers game that is really cheap which you could throw in, but it’s poor quality and spare on content.
2:26 That's interesting. I knew Hasbro's product code, for the first-edition master set, is 41712; but I never saw it as a sub-code of a larger code ... 1204-41712-102. I assume the 102 is for piece 102 (in this case, the Army Card for the Tarn Vikings) of the set. And since Heroscape was first released in 2004, I assume the prefix 1204 is for December 2004?
I had about $1200 Canadian worth (according Ebay's lowest prices) and I love the game but moving to different countries made this one impossible to keep. It's a shame but I had to let it go.
Grew up playing heroscape with the whole family we had about 15 master sets and tons of extras it was one of the best times I had as a kid and was always excited when we brought it out to set up.
3,060 Backers of the HeroScape: Age of Annihilation (2022 remake) today... looks like they won't make 8,000 backers goal by the deadline of Nov 16th... thoughts?
If you're a completetist for Heroscape it's going to be hard to find and expensive. I was considering it 4 years ago and eBay prices were too high and most for sale were in the u.s.
At least we'll be able to get the new Heroscape: Age of Annihilation stuff coming up soon. I intend to be a completetist this time around with my more adult budget.
@@themesongfan452 there weas that Heroscape like board game that was based on MTG released 6 years ago or so and I think it got one expansion but it was really small and didn't sell well so I hope this one is a winner instead.
@@BoardGameBollocks that’s unfortunate. Can you elaborate at all on why that price point doesn’t work for you? Do you feel that what the new set contains is not worth 250, or is 250 just too much for any board game regardless of value?
I don’t have £250 to spend on one game. I simply can’t justify spunking that much up the wall when I have a family to take care of during a cost of living crisis. I don’t really buy new games anymore. Prices are becoming obscene and part of it comes down to principles.
I really love this game, my girlfriend and I play it all the time, and if my brothers ever come over we always bust it out. I've always been tempted to try to recreate it as a videogame so that I could maybe play online against people other than the people that I usually play it with but I can never find the time to getting around to actually doing that.
I liked the diversity the marvel set added. The D&D set was a way for Hasbro to shift D&D 4e minis that didn’t sell. Would’ve preferred some unique content on that one.
If you like Heroscape, check out C3V and SoV which are releasing customs and have been for 10 years now! Or C3G if you like comics, they have 1000 cards put out from Marvel, DC, and several independent titles.
@@BoardGameBollocksI mean we are trying to get the word out to let people know that the game is in the process of being crowd funded. The community is doing its best to get the word out. Since you’ve played heroscape in the past I thought you might like it enough to let people know about it’s come back.
@@BoardGameBollocks I’m already paying $200 just for the original jungle. The original figures and squads are $30-50 usd. I would really love to buy 70 figures that are $3.50 each plus all the terrain as a bonus. The jungle alone will bring down original heroscape terrain prices and the original heroscape terrain is cracking, so it needs to be remade. Beside this $250 isn’t even close to what a lot of people buy in the game world. It’s a pretty good deal I think.
Picked up the Valkeryie set for £40 complete as will be nice to play with my son who is 6 so he can grasp mythic battles pantheon later (I hope) or he tells me to do one 😂😂😂
I remember buying this when I was 12 and coming home and saying “mom check it out!” And she said dude you’re told old for that shit. Idk why but that crushed my spirit a little bit. I knew she was right but idk it hurt 😂
This will solve every problem right here: How about they make Heroscape a video game, wouldn’t be expensive like buying all the figures, it be easy to put away, you will have every figure, They could even make more expansions, have a map editor, just think of the possibilities
I always did think Heroscape would work well as a gacha game, personally. But I think the real problem was that the stores didn't want to have to buy bulks of three common packs that sell plus one unique pack that doesn't. Remove that restriction, and supply and demand will lead to much profit. Which, rumor has it, they are planning to do with upcoming new Heroscape stuff that was announced yesterday.
I hunted down unsold copy of the game from one store in my country who had it in it's liquidation warehouse, bought sets, and expansions online. I have 13 yr kid and his friends enjoy the game, next Friday I'm setting-up HS game at our place for them. This is a no seller. Do not sell for anything if you have kids, nephews or adult friends who love fantasy but can't spent hours on learning new stuff.
Any interest in getting back into it? Because Hasbro apparently also regrets getting rid of it and has announced intentions to make more. Heroscape: Age of Annihilation is coming.
@@themesongfan452 well this has made my night. I guess with tabletop seeing a boom in popularity it is a good time. Do you know why they got rid of it in the first place
@@kevinb871 Well, I know that Hasbro was hoping that Wizards of the Coast will do well with it, but it looks like there were problems selling it in the first place. A combination of the plastic pieces being too expensive to make and the stores being frustrated with having to buy packs unique packs that didn't sell well alongside the common ones that did. From the sounds of things, they're being careful to fix some of these problems, but the game might be more expensive this time as part of the trade off (especially given 12 years of inflation and a currently bad economy). Still, it should be a lot cheaper than what we could buy off of ebay right now.
@@themesongfan452 oh shit ..age of annihilation.. wow .. hopefully this is real ..I will never forget the day I went to Walmart to get my weekly expansion pack and, there were none .. panicked, went to all the stores in a frantic craze .. awe shit son ..thanks for the heads up
I'm excited for the new phase of Heroscape to hopefully begin. Hasbro has a Haslab campaign to fund it by the community, but I hope that it actually takes off. If you could give it a shout-out, that would be awesome!
@@BoardGameBollocks well jokes on Hasbro, they would have had like 1500 of my USD, but I turned around and spent that on classic Heroscape like the same day it failed. A really good point to bring up is also how easy it is to homebrew custom units! The system is very versatile. If you're playing with friends and have a general understanding of how the balance works, bringing in other 28mm figurines with written up rule cards, or even gluing random figurines like a 3 inch tall giant robot action figure to a 2x1 base brings variety to your games!
