Was diagnosed with B cell lymphoma a few months ago at age 26 and i wasn’t able to get outta bed, i found this channel and it helped distract me, 2 rounds of chemo outta 6 and they said the cancer is 95% gone, I can walk now and feel almost back to normal but im still watching, canned fish are amazing
I'm not even sure how someone ends up hating fish. It can actually have so many different flavors, depending on the kind of fish, how it was prepared, whether it's fresh or preserved and so on. Is it because someone wasn't exposed to fish enough as they grew up or did they have a traumatic life experience eating fish?
I'm still trying to get into deenz. I have a can of Nuri I'm trying to work up the courage to try. Kipper snacks are pretty tasty though if you like smoked fish. Kind of a poor man's smoked salmon.
Just my opinion, but if you really hate fish, you probably shouldn't start getting accustomed to it with the help of canned food. Fish in a can often has a stronger flavor and some "preserved" taste that is unique in its own way. Just try some fresh fish first that is baked or fried from a good restaurant of your choice. I guess something like fried or baked cod or pollock filet would be a good first try as they are pretty mild in flavor. Believe it or not, some generic frozen supermarket fish filets have almost no flavor at all, like a generic chicken breast. That's another reason why I'm not quite sure how you can "hate fish" in general if some of it just tastes like nothing.
Wasn't sure if you were aware, but Crown Prince Natural is their "premium" product line. The normal Crown Prince kippers have 350mg sodium vs 70mg for the Natural.
OMG!!! I just got hit with a recipe idea! Being a 58 year old Cuban American, I had an inspiration. One of our struggle meals was this but very much simpler with just the cheapest sardines. Take out the Pampa smoked herring. Then put the oil in pot...add however much chopped onion. Then put some salt and pepper (if needed) And add 1.5 - 2.0 cups of water. Bring to boil. Put 1 cup of good rice in. Turn to low, cover tightly and let cook for 15 minutes. Turn off heat and let sit. Then Fry egg sunny side up to over easy. Put rice in bowl, crumble herring over top, add egg. Add what ever the heck you want from seaweed to hot sauce...and enjoy!!! Gonna do it when I go to mamita's house this week. (I take care of her ...early stage dementia). Sorry for the book! 🤪💞💗
@@Alphacheesehuntercheese pizza with clam chowder if the chowder is made fresh is amazing dude, try it out. Rather than dip, just take a bite of each in the same mouthful. You won't regret it

Brother. When I say I appreciate what you do I need you to understand me. This is my favorite RU-vid. This is the knowledge I need to be the best father to my sons I can be.
I aspire to have this passion for something in my life. I wonder if he embraces all of life with this curious enthusiasm or does canned seafood just get him going?
I just finished a can of King Oscar Kipper Snacks for lunch, and then Poof! your video came up. This was a great run-thru. Thanks for the time and effort. For me, King Oscar rocks: cost, flavor, texture.. I just bought a 12-pack for $30USD on the Zon which comes out to $2.50 a can. Herring, sardines and mackerel and canned salmon are staples of my diet.
Im a huge, huge fan of canned fish (my favorite being cod livers) yet my favorite herring moment was getting some fresh in Amsterdam in a bun with chopped onions. Just straight up raw herring in a bun with onion, delicious. We were there during herring season, so it was fresh, whereas in other times of the year it would be pickled, smoked, etc.
@@DaleWinarskimy neighbor has an outside cat named Smokey. He lives on our porch because he loves people but they never let him inside (except in winter); we'd adopt him but he's very much an outside cat and we have dogs who aren't overly fond of him. He's a sweet lil guy, just finicky
Brunswick kippered Herring was what I ate while I was homeless, my dad always ate them as a snack when his paychecks were good, I ate them to survive. A year and a half later, youtube is probably recommending this because I was talking about these the other day. Algorithms are strange, but Brunswick Herring isn't. A tin of that in the park while I read a book before work. Now I eat it as a snack.
The Brunswick plant (the original one) is only 30 minutes from my home. Seeing those kipper snacks made my mouth water. We only ever had Brunswick tinned fish, there were no other options. Love them to this day, salt and all.
You should try the "Polar" brand sold at Wal Mart, they are from Germany and come in two varieties a thicker can with a "whole fish and a thinner yellow can with fillets similar to the KOs.
As a father, I can agree with most of the opinions about these wonderful, wholesome snacks. It’s good for you muscles, as well as your brain, young man!
Stumbled across this channel last night. I havnt had sardines before but I found myself buying a good 4 pack of King Oscar’s. Had two cans for lunch. Delicious.
For the last few years I’ve been making tuna salad with two cans of tuna in water (drained) with one tin of sardines (mostly drained). When it’s all mixed with the mayo and whatever else you like, you can’t tell they’re in there, other than imparting an extra flavor profile. Anyway, one of your videos just popped up, so I gave a watch. Excellent stuff, well reviewed, subscribed!
This is a video I totally wanted you to make. Not sure if they'reavailable near you, but my personal goto is the can from "John West" "Naturally Smoked Kipper Filets".
Very cool vid. I've been eating canned fish with my father since I was a child. It was always an experience when he would bring the occasional can home so we could try something different. Even now as an adult, it's a fun experience going to the canned fish section of my grocery store to look for something new. When consuming sardines, it's not just about the food. It's about the ritual.
why am i watching this? i mean i have been eating kippers my entire life and love them: i tear up some sardines. and i love canned chub mackerels…. but why watch this.. keep it up!!!
Brunswick is a Canadian staple. They're very common and cheap brand. You can get these cans at the dollar store. Here, they're sold as sardines and not herring, because the department of fisheries allows them to sell them as sardines and obviously because North Atlantic herring is what they fish in NB.
After smoked trout in a tin, kippered herring are a very high second place. (I eat it more often because it is at least half price. Great with a bagel with cream cheese and onion or crackers with onion. Just found you channel and subbed and hit that bell! Thank you for your service!
Polar herring filet in spices and brine, drain the brine. Toast sourdough buttered and cheesed. Add the fish after bread is toasted and add the herring back in oven on broil to heat. Great samdwich!
If I had to guess, "made in Germany" kipper snacks are probably made by Rügenfisch but branded King Oscar. Rügenfisch does the same thing with their smoked sprats, they are actually made in Poland by King Oscar, it says so on the fine print. It really would be interesting to know how many brands are produced by how many canneries, globally. The number of actual producers is probably quite a bit smaller than the number of brands. Insight from anybody in this industry would be greatly appreciated.
Damn, the tin of Fangst is like 4 dollars here (which is cheap when it comes to out prices for everything), Then again i live in Norway... I'm gonna give them a shot, also gonna get a tin of mussels to try it out, never really liked them when i tasted them at restaurants, but it's worth trying it again. I ate a tin of King Oscar's while watching this video 😂
dude Im from the midwest USA. I don't know shit about fish except small and largemouth bass, which I don't eat. Thank you SO MUCH for this information, and your way of delivering information (EG: your explanation of Kipper snacks) is so useful for me.
I love seeing hyper specific channels like this. its so interesting seeing a snapshot of a fandom/culture which revolves around an aspect of life i find so mundane. unironically went and got the can of tuna in oil i had in the cupboard i use for salad to eat along as i watched.
This really is a dad’s dinner; my dad scarfs these down almost every other day😅 Although ones with a marinade/sauce, most often mustard or tomato/paprika.
Currently eating a can of Nuri's i got from rainbow tomato garden in one of their beginner boxes, these are genuinely really tasty. I'm really glad i found this channel, i probably would've avoided tinned fish other than store bought tuna forever without finding it.
I do a lot of canned fish, I've found that Brunswick cans vary quite a bit in quality, the golden smoked variety of them are actually really nice on toast with some cheese, but they really do seem to vary a bit can to can, on the plus side, very cheap!
Good stuff enjoyed the concept. A number of cooks are re-discovering canned fish for their recipes...so you're ahead of the trend, congrats. As for sodium content, typically canned denizens are well salted much to our dismay. Salt intake is a major factor in hypertension control. In that instance your Prince brand is big winner. Last, you paid US$11+ for that last tin?! The package said it contained just 100gm/3.5 oz. Jeez that comes out to be near US$50 a pound. Not your average snack. lol. Next up?
You often mutter to yourself “ehh nobody cares about xxxxxx”, but please know we care! The things your keen eyes catch always make me think about products on a deeper level, as if I’m eating the packaging just as much as the food within. Just want you to know we care!!!
Kipper snacks are like crack. Crackers, salad, toasts, fried eggs. Theyre delightful on almost anything. I bet you could make kipper patties and theyd probably be delicious
Trader Joe’s had an excellent one in a green can that was product of Germany. Naturally smoked. I haven’t seen it in about year. Hope they bring it back someday.
That version of C.P. is not marketed as "low sodium" on the packaging, but it is at Amazon. Then there's the "regular" sodium version with about 350mg per serving . . . .
I love fish but never had Kipper snacks until today because my mom always said they were gross and didn't buy them when I was a kid and I just lived my adult life believing that until my doctor told me to give them a try. I was lied to!! These are frickin awesome! I hate that I didnt try them sooner.
