Lake Lanier, GA
April 24, 2022
Striper fishing on Lake Lanier has been relatively slow this year as we experienced extended cooler weather and a lot of wind. Finally the water temp was climbing this week and on this day it reached 69 F so the herring were spawning on relatively shallow water structure such as rocks, rip rap, vegetation, reef poles, buoys, stumps, trees, etc. on main river and creek channel points & humps. It's super important to pay attention to mother nature and usually it will give the signs needed to find the fish.
Lure Rods: Offshore Angler Gold Cup 7'6"
Lure Reels: Penn Battle III 3000
20lb braid / 12lb Seguar Fluorocarbon
Spinning Rod/Reels for Pitching Herring: Penn Battle III 3000HS on a Offshore Angler Gold Cup 7' rod

are all the Gold Cups in the video 7'6? Med? or M/H??

Hi Paul, no I have a couple different spinning & casting. Spinning I use the 7’6 for my casting lures like the magic swimmer and pair with a Penn battle 3000. I have 7’ MH paired with Penn battle 4000HS; I like these combos for dropping the flutter spoons and larger swim baits - I believe they’re rated up to 2oz. The gold cup rods in my opinion are one of the best rods you can get for the money - i believe they’re still $49.99.

I have a question ??? I level on lake Lanier and I want to catch my first striper what do you suggest as a beginner
@theoriginalcaptjack
@theoriginalcaptjack 3 месяца назад
Hi, if you’re willing I would suggest attending and or joining the striper club/s meetings as well as a guide trip to shorten the learning curve. The easiest and most prominent way is using blueback herring on a down line (and free lines). Start looking around river channel humps , creek mouths etc

Thank you so much by any chance were you fishing under the bridge before passing the state patrol how would I join a striper club

@@kevinmendoza224 not sure about the bridges but Facebook or google the oakwood striper club (flowery branch area) and the lake Lanier striper club (cumming area) just message them and they’ll give you mtg details etc. it’s free to attend a mtg a lot of nice guys

Another great video brother! Love it! Looking to visit my uncle near there for Father’s Day weekend and take him fishing at Lanier. I lost my father when young and he’s the only father figure I have. Are you a guide/ charter?
@theoriginalcaptjack

Sounds like a great idea. I don’t run charters but happy to recommend a few

How do you find spots like this? What do you initially look for? Sonar? And birds?
@theoriginalcaptjack
@theoriginalcaptjack 2 года назад
Hi, time of the year/water temp suggest fish are shallow so planer boards were used and then they gave themselves away. Definitely time on the water helps put the pieces to the puzzle together

Capt Jack: In the summer I can get Stripe under the boat & usually get one to hit a spoon but am not able to catch multiple out of a school. Was thinking of chopping up some Bream & “chumming” while dropping spoons. Have you ever tried this?

Question: Now that we’re into summer Stripers do you still recommend “drumming”?
@theoriginalcaptjack
@theoriginalcaptjack 2 года назад
Hey Doug, yes, I use drumming until it doesn’t work. So many times in summer I’ll pull into a pocket, start drumming and dropping spoons - by using these two tactics I can see real quick if any stripers are around.

@dougturk7116 2 года назад
@@theoriginalcaptjack: That’s exactly what I do & for me quite successful catching one Stripe but after that nothing? I have to move and find another school. Any thoughts on that? The other issue is there are MANY Striper guys who say the exact opposite so far as noise and vibration. They actually get pissed off when they hear me drumming. Have you experienced this?
@theoriginalcaptjack
@theoriginalcaptjack 2 года назад
@@dougturk7116 I’ll drum to bring the fish in but don’t always keep doing it. In my experience it gets their attn but unless you feed them they’ll leave. My drumming isnt very loud and never upset another boat that I know of. if it’s not working or more successful without then I’d do what works best. I always experiment and there are times when I’m really quiet. Go figure

@@theoriginalcaptjack Makes sense. One Guide here gets perturbed if someone on his boat drops something when they’re fishing. That IS BS!
