An awesome chase of the Herzog ballast train dumping ballast on the Springhill Sub video 2 of 4!
Canadian National Railway locomotives 5713 (EMD SD75I), 2676 (C44-9W), and 2560 (C44-9W) power the Herzog ballast work train CN W901 (Moncton, NB Gordon Yard to Springhill Junction, NS) eastbound dumping ballast as it slowly (about 15 mph) passes through Memramcook, NB with 87 Herzog ballast hoppers (366 axles) on a partly sunny morning. CN 901 is dumping ballast from about mile 113 to about mile 78 of the CN Springhill Sub. Powered by solar panels on top of the hoppers, a crew in the trailing locomotive is using GPS to make sure the ballast is dumped at the right location. Notice that the dumping briefly stops as the train goes over the grade crossing. A CN foreman in a high rail truck follows closely behind to make sure the ballast was dumped evenly.
