Just thought I'd tell you that I came across this little guy, level 45 for the first time and when I saw the golden egg I had to have him. About 1 game day later, I had him tamed by killing Piranah/Salmon and other small fish, myself.

Yup, it ain't always cherries! Some of it is hard work, and your frustration and suffering is OUR gain. And it "IS" much appreciated! I was just going to try another failed attempt at taming the Icthyornis and then go for the Hesperonis, so, thank you once again for covering the bases for me.

They are extremely viable for an oil farm. 15 fem and 5 males make you all the golden eggs and oil you need as a solo player. (That is taking into account a small dung beetle farm of 5 or 6 which is kinda standard for any player for fertalizer) 15 x 9 is 135 per collection if they are all synched. Passive oil production is the best oil production. I have somewhere in the range of 2.5 and 4 for egg laying rates and I have so many eggs I can't even keep up. I don't even have a hesper but I will have a hoard soon ;)

Tame a pachyrhinosaurus, build a pen in the water, and have it use the agro spray in the water to attract fish and then use the fear spray. The hesperornis should be able to safely kill loads of them.

It shouldn't. But even if it did the passive spray would affect it to. Then you could just order it to attack the fish with whistles.

The Golden Egg gives smaller, non-ridable creatures 500%, not 50%, Humans and Ridables are 10%. Like so people see it and know!

Dude, seriously, this is AMAZING. I have only tried on single player/default tame settings but I managed to do it. Your way is soooo much easier though. Basically I aggroed the bird into a pen and then left it there. Then I spent like half an hour spear fishing and dragging the fish up on shore next to the pen and then started feeding them to the bird one by one. When you put the fish down you have to leave them in a line from oldest to newest because the bodies decompose after 20-30 mins so you can can feed the oldest without losing any. The process is so damned frustrating that I have never tried to do it again. But, thanks to you and your great vid, hespe farming is back on my to-do list! Thanks and subscribed!

I think you might have made a mistake about the xp bonus According to the "Everything you want to know about v258" post made by Jen, golden gives 500% increased xp to not rideable dinos not 50% : "These water ducks drop golden eggs that little creatures love. When fed to a small non-rideable tame, the egg gives them a temporary 500% increased experience buff. Humans and bigger creatures can eat it as well for a 10% buff." -Jen

Het , use fishbasket , tame piranas and then break the basket and cryopop them , when u have enough you can look for herperonis , trap him and uncryo the fush and kill it . Works with shadows too ;)

On official servers, just feeding it fish you kill by hand works fine, at least up to level 45 or so. Higher levels you're likely to run out of fish before you finish the tame but I've hand tamed two with this method. It would also be worth noting that if you accidentally drop the fish next to the Hesperonis it can sometimes aggro on you and will attack you for a bit. I've found just backing off and letting it get back to hunting works pretty well.

a tip i have insead of using honey you can use a grapple hook and fly the duck where ever you want. found that out trying for 2 hours to tame one to no avail

The whole egg oil thing is a lifesaver its such a chore to travel over to the sea to mine countless amounts of oil to sustain yourself for about a few hours.

On the official pvp server I'm on the alphas have most of the oil routes blocked off. We live right on a river though that's only one more to the west than yours is, so if those ducks spawn there, that will be a huge way to get oil.

gee wish I knew this 30 minutes ago I just spent about 30 minutes and around 4 deaths because of piranhas trying to tame 2 hesperornis I managed to tame them the hard way though but now I know there's an easier way

Oh man... I did it successfully on the weekend on an unofficial server, but let me tell you I wish I'd seen this first. I found a level 145, and lured it into a little pen that only had cole nearby... each fish gave me between .5-1.8% taming. I DID get the tame... but it took over two hours, and a LOT of frustration... now I want to try it your way!!

Whistle it to attack a fish, allow it to kill and eat it, then whistle neutral and bring it to land. Then it lays an egg. Also the golden egg gives a 500% exp boost to small unrideable creatures, and a 10% boost to players and large creatures. Oh and the seagull buff definitely works, I had the idea too and it gave more taming progress.

I manged to tame a level 5 on Official server yesterday. I think I fed the critter ~15 pirhana, coel, and sabertooth salmon levels between 10-100. The hard part was indeed chasing it around to try and feed it but each time hitting E and dropping the fish repeatedly. Before long I got the Hesperornis to chase me at night into a 1x1 thatch taming pen to keep it from moving so much. Such a pain.

Idk if someone else already told you but you absolutely can just feed them fish out of the river that you kill with a dino/bare hands. You dont need the icthyornis, it just gives better taming effectiveness for the level and makes it faster. You must have bad luck or a bug. And by the way I did it on an official.

Idk I just killed a bunch of salmons (like 5 or 6, which is easy since if you attack one the whole gang swimmes over) then just brought them over and fed the birb. It was a pain but it worked.

Honestly, i find oil so easy to get, going to the swamp and killing a family of leeches gives you quite a bit of oil from harvesting and i feel like not much people know about this, very effective way to get oil and its pretty easy on a mount such as beezlebufo

You can taime these straight out of water now. Dont know if they changed it. I'm in official pvp server. I just followed it in water and killed fish in 30 sek intervalls. It took a while but worked

I've done it without the bird who catches the fish for you. Sure it doesn't tame as fast but it does work. I have never tames a duck like this guy in the video has.

I just tamed a lvl 140, the only hesperornis I could find and the first hour was completely wasted after it bit me because I dropped the fish while trying to hit that stupid hit box so my pteranodon came and attacked it. 2 hours later and no more fish on the hole map finally done it. I guess the female one will cost me the rest.

The oil from the eggs would be useful on official servers, and servers without increased gather rates, because those rates don't change the amount of oil each egg yields.

Dude legit it's super easy to tame them with fish. You have to use the right fish. Salmon is the best. There is no need for an ichthy. I run 2x tame speed and it takes like 10 salmon.
