Good clear video. Liked the rotating habitat explanation to effect simulated "Gravity"

Hello innocent beings, I only have to comment that this idea of a centrifugal force is just a confusion of the reaction force you exert when, for example, you are going in a car round a bend, the car pushes on you as it moves round with a centripetal force. The pink arrow showing a centrifugal force acting on the bug is completely wrong. The pink force should be an outwards force acting on the can. This is because the can pushes on the bug (centripetal force) and therefore by Newton's third law the bug pushes outwards on the CAN.

John Doe Except I believe that Paul is wrong here and Centrifugal force is a real force. The string is being pulled outward, Thus the can is also being pulled outward by gravity. There is both an inward force and outward force. There is an action reaction system here.

if you get high and listen to this you'll actually learn about centrifugal force because you'll get up and try to test the theory

Except the pulling is from the string. As the can rotates the string is being pulled outward. Thus and outward and inward force being equally acted upon.

@Samantha Blondel aren't we on earth because of its mass--> gravity...what does the earth spinning have to do with us staying on earth?

If you'd stop trying to throw insults, you would learn something. I never said Centrifugal force doesn't exist. It's a concept which you can use in physics as well as give it units. But it is NOT a force.

Centrifugal force is not a "force". It is only inertia. Don't tell people it's a force 'cause it's wrong.

A property of matter that is a body's resistance to a change in state of motion. In other words, it is the m in Fnet=m*a.

Maybe our gravity is our centrifugal force. Hey, I'm just saying it because the WORLD is spinning sooooo fast that we are stuck to the earth. Hmmmmm....

Inertia is not a force. Doh. Centrifugal was never a force. It's a concept. Don't believe me? watch: /watch?v=DLgy6rVV-08

Newton's second law states that the centripetal force is balanced by the centrifugal force. Centrifugal force is mass times acceleration and the centripetal force is the tension in the string. This guy thinks Newton's third law precludes balance of forces not dealing with two bodies, a logical flaw. The whole explanation of this video is a pointless exercise to force rigid rule based ideas on the innocent student and a dead end understanding of the world in which forces exist in isolation.
@stefankamzol917

+Calvin Hulburt Here's my suggestion. Take a paper plate and cut out a quarter of it. Put it on a flat surface and sprinkle some powdered sugar or something powdery all over the area which you cut out. Then take a marble and flick it around the circle so that the ball sticks to the outside as it rotates around. You'll find that the ball stays in a straight line coming out of it; the velocity is tangent to the circle. See that's the thing, what you feel is not centrifugal force; its the centripetal force always fighting that velocity, keeping you upright (that threatens to throw you out of the circle). Hence, centrifugal force is not real.
@willoughbykrenzteinburg

Stefan Kamzol what you are describing is from an INERTIAL reference frame. That's not even how centrifugal force was ever described. Centrifugal force is not real IN INERTIAL REFERENCE FRAMES, but it is treated as real in rotating reference frames. If you are in a rotating reference frame, centrifugal force exists for the purposes of applying Newtons laws.
@calvinhulburt9188
@calvinhulburt9188 8 лет назад
+Stefan Kamzol Duh. you pick a case where there is no centrifugal force and then use that as evidence that centrifugal force does not exist. A ball traveling in a straight line has no acceleration and so there is no force. This is just another version of trying to confuse students with talk about rotating reference frames. Newton's second law describes forces in balance. The centripetal force and the inertial resistance.
