TIm, thanks for posting this fly. I have been watching you teach tying your flies for quite a while. I have a cabin near Grayling and can't wait to try thi s fly out next summer. Sure would like to see you tying up some at the MFFC Expo this coming spring. Thanks again for sharing your expertise!
You're welcome. Definitely give this one a try; it's the best fly I've ever used during Hex and Brown Drake emergences. I use it on a 10 3xl for Hex and 12 3xl for Brown Drakes. Fish do not refuse this fly!
I’ve watched this several times and played around with the pattern using different materials. If there’s a better way to present the shuck, I haven’t found it. Really a nice pattern, Tim, thanks again for your generosity.
Thanks... I got that idea from the construction of the Roberts Drake. I wanted a fly with a similar shuck representation without using deer hair for the body. It makes every parachute pattern regardless of hatch matched more effective.
@@tyingmichigansbesttroutfli2428 Yes, that was a nice variant. I tried pin e squirrel, snowshoe, and fox vulva trying for the effect in my aquarium. Shadows don’t have prejudice.
Nice fly, Tim. I'm about your age and from where Lake Superior meets the UP and WI. Great to find your channel and nice to see some of the home patterns.
Hey Tim, great fly as always, I love the way you present information! I know you fish the Michigan Rivers, here in California most of our Hex hatches are in lakes. Does this or would this change your approach or fly selection? I should be able to give you an after action report next weekend :-)
Tim -- Regarding days when the Hexgenia limbata are not actually hatching, but they are hatching at night: Have you ever had success on days by just fishing the water with your DT Hex? If the trout expect to see the Hexgenia limbata at night, they probably wouldn't be deceived, but maybe they become greedy and gullible, like humans.
Hello Ronald.... great question... the answer is a resounding yes! Starting in early June, I fish it on a #12 2 or 3xl for Brown Drakes (also a day time emerger); areound mid-late June I switch to #10 2 or 3xl and fish that until around mid-July. It is a tremendous prospecting fly; you can always count on fish and sometimes good ones. Hope you get a chance to try it...
