From the band that wrote KASHMIR and STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN, this was the first song of theirs that really caught my ear and made me sit down and listen--those outro vocals in particular are just so world-weary and awesome sound. This might be my favorite Zep song, and that's saying something!
Yesssssss. When I was 22yrs old, and heard this for the first time (ironically, as a cover -- by a guy in a bar, playing a guitar) it made me want to be able to both sing and play guitar by the time I was 27. Well, that was a *while* ago, lol, still can't play guitar but I can kinda sing.
Most underrated, because it was never on an original Led Zep album! It was only "released on Led Zeppelin's boxed set in 1990, this could only be found in America on the B-side of "Immigrant Song" and in England on an Atlantic Records record sampler." www.songfacts.com/facts/led-zeppelin/hey-hey-what-can-i-do
I gotta a woman I bought all day. See the many folks standing in line. I got a worried mind, sharing what I thought was mine. I got a woman. Stay drunk all the time. Hey what can I do?
Can someone enlighten my ignorance. That he has a girl he's ballin all or all the the time. Is it a variation of bawl.as you can see she's a drunk and not his but wishing she was his.
Im 16 yurning 17, zeppelin will always be my favourite band, and oh my god how i wish i grew up in this generation, i can picture how life would be.. yeah there was some flaws that have worked themselves out in my generation thT im thankful of but music is such a huge part of my life and all the good stuff isnt in my time, the boomers are by far the luckiest in terms of the music from their generation
Areia Hibbitt you just love Led Zeppelin. When I was 16 in 1987 I loved Led Zeppelin. Here I am at 49 still loving Led Zeppelin and the girl I shared all my Led Zeppelin memories with
Funny how young ppl know who is who & what is what. I rolled up auto store other day. Blaring Willey Nelson his brother & Jimmy hendrix all jamming out together on a record.. I got out went in the manager came in shortly was immediately my friend his associate was to
Yea they were before my time as well and I totally agree. It's almost like they won't ever be topped and if they could the time is already passed decades ago
I was 17, had this 45 rpm, used to put it on the turntable player (in mono, just one speaker😅) in my room with my girlfriend😉❤️, had little money in my pockets and the whole world was mine.........
I am a boomer too. Smack in the middle. So glad I grew up with Zep and their amazing sounds. This track is just awesome. JPJ s base guitar is genius. Robert's voice, JPP is the greatest guitarist in the world and Bonzo was the greatest drummer. These 4 guys complemented each other. Still listen to their music every day. I never got to see them live but I often see Rob around our village in Worcestershire. His property is a couple of miles up the River Severn from me. I idolised Jimmy as a girl ❤❤
Wow 😳I'm here in tears literally BAWLING my ass off. I lost my best friend Kyle back in early 2000's to drug addiction and I am still having a hard time processing that he's no longer here. Lately I have been really missing him 😭. I never got to say goodbye to him because he was pissed off at me because I myself had been using drugs a few years prior. We used to sing this song and he always said that the lyric "I gotta woman stays drunk all the time" was me. Lol So I was on Zedge and I wanted to hear the song before I had a chance to use it for my ringtone. Well if ppl say there's no God they're not only wrong but you are proof of that . I could have tapped any channel but I happened to see yours had lyrics. I don't believe in coincidences I never have. I believe that God puts ppl in our path and YOU ARE PROOF . Your name is not a name you hear everyday. Kyle's father's name was Llewellyn. You have not only proven my point but I now know that he is with me . I just wanted to thank you( another great song btw ) . You have made me feel like he's not with me he knows that I miss him so very very much. Thank you so much. I'm BAWLING happy tears now. Not only am a subscriber I'm sharing your channel all over my social media sites. I appreciate you!!! Thank you for not only do I feel better I know that my buddy,my friend is okay and he's with God. Just wanted you to know that you made me feel so fn happy. God bless you man .. sincerely mean that. I'm from Nova Scotia Canada and this "Ol' bag ( as he would call me lmao) extremely happy and grateful to know that my "Chubby buddy"hahahahaha is still rockin out. Thanks again man. ❤️🥰🙏🏻
As a child of the baby boomer generation (I'm 65), Led Zeppelin was one of my favorite bands. Alas, they were one of the great bands I never got the opportunity to see live in concert. None the less, we listened to them almost everyday. Hey Hey What Can I Do was one of my favorite songs and we did indeed attempt to "ball all day". Great memories.
@Lessons Tobe I think there's just one mistake. It should be: "I guess there's just one thing left for me to do"- Not "to loose". He already lost her in his mind, so he's leaving. There's nothing left for him to lose (loose).
Stephanie Kiminsky I respect your opinion but I stand by mine. I do not believe I am incorrect. "Wanna ball"??? Does he want to play basketball with her?
Try, in your mind, to replace, won bal, with worryin about......it makes sense to the story... oh...and if you're in your 40s and single let me know....
" "Balling" was a slang term for sex used frequently in the 1960's-70's".....really? Ive never heard of that...balling to me = playing basketball. I stand corrected! Have a good one Stephanie! :o)
Also, this song was released in 1982....so you were a kid in the early 80s....so was i...are you located within the state of Ohio in the USA. If so, it it is my duty, and my pleasure, to buy you a drink and dinner at the locale of your choosing.
The mighty powerful led Zeppelin Hammer of the gods they drive their ships two new worlds if you listen to fools Zeppelin does rule dangerous rock and roll group
Sorry, you are incorrect. The first time my first wife and I decided to be together (late May 1971) was precipitated by her asking me if I wanted to "ball all day" (my high school graduation present from her). Needless to say, as our first time together...it was exquisite. The term was very common amongst my generation from the late 60's thru the 70's and 80's. History indeed....which produced many babies. The song was released in late 1970 as the B side to the Immigrant Song on a 45 disk as I recall. Also, as I recall, the song was banned on most US radio stations because of the use of the word "ball".
Ballin' in the 70s meant, screwing. It was definitely a word that was used. Ballin' today isn't used in that context. It is short for big ballin' which is a big money/sports reference.
I was in the Walgreens parklot. This young thing gets in her car puts this on for the road. Wish she would of said she like this. I would of played a cover sang to
