Hi, Miss Hood. You are SO right about this time of year being the worst time for drivers. Thankfully, first quarter of 2023 hasn't been too bad. Still, though, I'm 64, and the 4:30 AM alarm is really taking a cumulative toll. The end of this school year will be 9 years for me. My goal is to follow in your footsteps and retire then. You too had 8 or 9 years in, didn't you? Glad you're back. Best Wishes!- J

Jason! That's quite a compliment "following in my footsteps". My plan was to drive 10 years and retire. Unfortunately, CoVid changed that for me. I finished 8 years. It's always good to hear from you. Thanks for watching!

Don’t forget to show up a little early to start your bus and let it warm up before you leave.

Thank you Joseph for adding that piece of advice. We were not allowed to leave our bus running to warm up. It could run while we were doing our pre trip but no longer than that. If the temps were in below 20° driver's would start the buses at 4:00 with one heater on. So, I never changed my arrival time and daily prayed for 20° weather. Thanks for watching!

Miss Hood!! So good to see you in front of the camera again! I never knew that there were valves under the hood of the bus that you had to turn to get heat. My 17 birthday is coming up in May and I am excited. I have always wanted to get my CDL and that is still the plan. I have been deciding between school bus driver or being a truck driver. When I was going to school last year our bus had broken down before fall break and we had a sub bus, and the heat would not work, and boy was it cold in that bus. I now do online school. Great video like always!!

I always enjoy hearing from you Leland. If I were you, I'd drive the school bus first. Where I live the county paid for my CDL expenses. Drive for at least 3 years. Then switch to Trucks. When I switched to RV driving I had to learn about the rules and regulations on the road (logging and DOT inspections) but my school bus driving background made me a smarter and safer driver. Keep me updated on your progress and thanks for watching!

Here's a meme I made up about winter that's relatable but also funny Mother Nature (to Syracuse, New York): How much snow do you want this winter? Syracuse: *YES* (this is to joke about the fact that Syracuse receives 123 inches of snow per winter)

Good Morning Miss Hood! Wake up time is 4:30AM but what time do you have to clock in? What is a breakdown of your typical daily schedule? Thank you!

Welp, this was some pretty helpful advice, especially since last week, my new area (I say new because if you haven't heard, I moved last summer and it ruined my life) but anyways, last week my new area got snow, but we still had school because there was only like, 1/2 in. - 1 in. of snow, but still there were cars coming down the highway with snow covered windshields which makes me wonder how the buses even got the snow off. I ride a short bus (Bluebird Micro Bird G5), so I know it was probably a lot easier for them to brush the snow off but my brother rides a full-size Bluebird Vision (which is Bluebird's Conventional model bus), and this is the new version with the updated grille, and the updated grille visions have bigger hoods, so I wonder how- just how- they managed to get every spec of snow cleaned off my brother's bus. By that evening the snow had all melted though, but I was literally just in awe to see how they got all the buses free of snow, considering 82% of the fleet is full sized buses, most of those being 40-foot long 84 passenger buses. But really, thanks for the new upload :D

@misshoodsschoolbuslife1871 Год назад
Blitzer Dog you are correct. It's difficult to clean the snow off. It was very rare for me to drive in snow but when I had snow on my hood, I used my broom to knock it off. Also, during your pre-trip inspection the hood is opened and most of the snow falls off. Good to hear from you and thanks for watching!

Miss Hood, it's good to see a new video from you. I never knew that about the bus heater. I wonder if there was a similar system on our Blue Bird TC2000 (the Tolley Cruiser) as it was a flat nose bus? I might have to ask Steampunk Steve, a fellow RU-vidr, about this since he converted a 1999 TC2000 to an RV. Glad to see you are doing good. Looking forward to seeing your next video.

Thanks Rebel! Those levers also make it possible to turn the heat OFF in the summer time heat. Switching to a sub bus that has been sitting without use means the levers may still be in "summer" mode. I always checked those first. I learned later on there was a fourth lever that is very difficult to reach that the bus garage folks would forget to turn on. That caused problems for the drivers and students without heat Working on my next video currently. Should be posting in 2 weeks. Thanks for watching!

@@misshoodsschoolbuslife1871 those levers might explain why our dreaded sub bus never had heat. If it as not subbing it was sitting

No Tommy I'm not on a sub list yet. I'm enjoying retirement and lm thankful I don't have to drive in the winter. I decided I was not going to drive RVs in the winter. That looked way too dangerous for me. There are several folks who would love for me to sub for them but I'm home during the winter. I'm not ready to return to school bus driving yet. Thanks for watching!
