Hey Steve: How Do I Get My Friend To Stop Asking Me For Favors? 

It's crazy I don't even look like I have money but everyone wants loans for ridiculous reasons. Can I just have one real friend in this lifetime please.🤦🏻‍♀️

I learned this lesson years ago. I had that one friend who only called when she needed something. I stopped answering the phone and wouldn't respond to emails. No more problems with that so-called friend. I was her friend, but she wasn't mine. I was glad to sever that tie. Don't miss the contact.

Yep. This was me. I stopped doing favors for all these people that didn't do anything for me. I know have a small circle of friends, but we will do anything for each other.

Here is another one. One couple with whom we would do to lunch: If their portion of the bill was less, then we paid only our portion of the bill. If their portion of the bill was higher, then they suggested we "split" the bill. So now, we always insist on separate checks.

some of my friend is using different tactic.he calls and ask me how are you my friend ? long time no see you.i miss you a lot. than he ask me can you do some favor?can you help me? i helped him few times before. .from now on every times he calls me my answer is: i am sorry ask someone else for help not me.what i learned from my experience people do not respect weak people.they respect more stronger people.you have learn how to say NO.if you do not respect yourself than people never gonna respect you. busy

Dont enter into game of giving and receiving favours. Not only you lose money etc but you also lose ppl around you. Just stay real

So, be a bad person because that's how others treat you? Why not just cut them out of your life or have strict boundaries in place if you can't cut them out. Why lower ourselves&our minerals because others aren't willing to act right? That just makes us bad people with them. Treat others how you want to be treated, and if you're not treated right just remove them from your life so you're not dragged down further with the negative people.

Judging by all these comments, its quite worrying (and depressing) that this video has hit home for so many people. I've cut out a fair amount of people from my life once I realised the amount of things I did for people which were never reciprocated. The realisation came when my life became VERY busy. I was working full time and decided to also study full time at university. Who told me to do that?! I was a walking zombie, lol! But I'm glad I did, because it showed me the people who didn't care about me, my (lack of) time, or my wellbeing as long as they got what they wanted out of me. Its like these people didn't want to acknowledge or comprehend how stressful my life was during that time, and never asked me how I was or how my studies at university was going. They just continued asking for favours. I cut them off years ago. I occasionally hear about what some of these people are up to these days, and guess what?! They're still where I left them, with nothing much going on in their lives apart from using people and creating drama - while my life is peaceful and stress free. Good riddance! Now I can spot an opportunist from a mile away and nip that in the bud before that behaviour even begins.

So you feel bad about not helping them. They'll turn the situation to make you feel like you're a bad person. Many times, when I say 'sorry,I can't help' they will leave me on read for a long time before catching up with me again. I realized this many times, yet it's hard for me to say no because she's my best friend, she make it look real..like she care about me. Idek,hmm

This sounds just like me ! wow! the job, the "friend ", the outfit! lol It's crazy sometimes how you can't see your problem or the solution to your problem until you see it on someone else. For me I started to test my "friend" a little. told them the hotel was full for those days or something like that and surprise surprise the phone calls stopped on it's own. :/

I have a person who keeps doing this to me, only contacts me when she wants a favour. She's not even my friend, she's the mother of my daughters best friend. My worry is that if I start saying no to favours, she'll try to cut off the friendship between our daughters.

I say the same thing now. What would you do if you didn’t know me? You’d figure it out.

You're suggesting people leave their vm's full ... so the doctor you've been waiting to hear from can't get through to you? So the hospital or police calling to tell you a family member is in the ER, or in trouble, can't get through? By all means use 'Call Block.' It gives the caller a busy signal, which conveniently signifies you are waaaayyyy to busy to talk to them. However, I think it's more prudent to keep a small mailbox (mine only has room for 3 messages) available for urgent calls when I can't get to the phone.

I learned that years ago... don’t accept one sided friendship

This was me a couple of years ago. Then I cut all the toxic people out of my life and made my circle smaller.

Great advice. I built a little cage for my phone and the phone lives there 24 - 7. The only time I take it out is when I leave my home in case of emergency. I do not text, voicemail or answer my phone unless its my immediate family. I do not answer my door unless I feel like it. I do not loan and I do not borrow money. Regardless whether or not its a family member, the same applies. I finally realized that 'genetics" has absolutely nothing to do with my Bank Account. I have no tolerance for fake people on any level.

I do not like that. Stop calling my phone asking for things I don't ask you for. I don't ask no one for anything so keep my same energy. I don't have no kids okay

I dealt with someone like that before, and I unfriended her on social media about a year ago and now she's resurfaced and is trying to reach out to me again. My issue with her is she always needs rides. She doesn't drive and lives about 20 minutes away. Whether it be for appointments, family emergencies, hanging out, etc it seems like I'm the only person she calls. It started to become more like a chore and was getting tired of it. So I ghosted her for a while. On top of that her life is full of drama, i.e baby daddies, etc. She doesn't handle criticism well so that's why I've never told her off. She takes it as people belittling her, or looking down on her from their high horses, which is not my intent. I actually felt a sign of relief not communicating with her for almost a year.

Never take true friendship for granted, me and my two best friends help each other a lot, we've been friends for 21 years since we were in mid school, we still talk almost every day and they're both like a family to me. So try to find close friends who care for you as you care for them.

I have a friend like that, I deliberately distanced myself from her. It’s exhausting when someone is always trying to get what they can out of you.

My friend only just asked me a few days for £40 and now his asking for 10 again today. Honestly makes me so tired that haven't even responded to his message. I've only got money off him once ever in life and have asked him before when I actually needed it from him. But he never gave it to me and said he was broke. Thing is he never pays me back ever, thinks I just grow money off trees to hand it to him. I don't mind helping him out here and then but when it becomes a habit and he expects it everytime then it becomes annoying.

For the first time in my life (now age 29) I have given myself the gift of deleting and blocking people's contacts in 2020. It's the most liberating things to draw the line and not 👏tolerate👏 being👏 used 👏...

Its okay to help once since thats what friends for but to make it a habit is a nono. And worst you cant even remember when that friend helps you. The fact you're working hard on your own cause you know noone can help you but yourself yet they are easy on them asking your help ... one sided friendship. Learn to say no! I say no all the time to my friends lets see if they'll stay if they dont that explains. They are only using me.

You guys aren't friends, you're acquaintances. Nothing wrong with that just accept that this is the nature of your relationship and decide if shes someone you want to do professional favors for.

Best advice I heard.My so called friends always get me because they know that they have helped me at some point in their life but what gets me is they never include me in their parties or plain get togethers but knows how to call me when they want me to bake something for them.Yes I do and it makes me feel like I am some kind of slave or they don't respect me.That idea to block calls is great.
