This song means a lot to me. My best friend took her life in 2004.. The Christmas before I got her the OutKast Speakerboxxx/The Love Below cd.. we listened to it and danced constantly. Every time I hear it..i get emotional. I was looking up how to play Santeria and this video came up next in my recommendations. Almost like a little nudge from her❤️ so happy I watched this!! Now I know how to play it for my best friend❤️ thank you Marty!

The guitar (which starts the song) plays E major, but the (instrumental) melody and the background singers clearly have E minor in the same spot (the last three notes of the instrumental melody in the refrain are an E minor arpeggio). I'm convinced this was an oversight on the part of the songwriters.

.I think it's E major in the verses and E minor in the choruses. It definitely starts as an E major.

E Major is correct for the verses, E Minor on the chorus. People think E Minor because E Major has that dodgy G sharp which isn't in key, but it is correct.
