How diversity reception sounds on a Flex 6600 or 6700 when using 2 antennas to enhance your signal reception. Using diversity uses both SCU's on these radios and 2 unique antennas.
In the Video, I was using RXA for the other antenna. In a dual SCU radio, there is an internal antenna switch that allows RXA or RXB to be on either SCU.
Diversity audio is not on a DAX stream, so it is not available for decoding digital data.
Headphones are really required to hear the experience and it a great feature for the ham radio operator.
While I didn't demonstrate it, you will also want to give it a try on CW.

Diversity technology is fun to experiment with, and if done right, offers some really nice advantages.

For both flexradio and elecraft diversity receive, there seems to be a missing Phase control for the second receiver. A Phase control aids the diversity receive concept to function better. Just look at it with the MFJ Noise Canceler or similar devices, or in the Anan transceivers or in other SDR radio software that supports diversity reception. Unfortunate such an expensive transceiver is missing the Phase control for diversity receive.

Greetings from Guatemala ! I have no idea how many times I had seen this video over and over again and every single time amaze me as the first time, nicely done and I have yet to try it on my 6600. Question will it have any advantage on 50 MHz FT8 ? 73 Juan TG9AJR

As the presenter states, the diversity bit happens in your head. It's a pity the radio is advertised as capable of true diversity when it can't do it. If you want true diversity buy a SDR RSP duo. The meaning of true diversity is: a method of radio reception in which the best signal impulse is automatically selected from among those available.

Good demo, thanks Michael. My 6600 is a year old and never tried this yet. Mostly been on FT8, hihi.. QUESTION: I use SmartSDR for Mac. Is setup for diversity different on SmartSDRMac since the RX Assist program is for windows so I would not have it running on my Mac? Thx de VE7OVY

DIV is in the Radio Controls panel in SmartSDR MAC. You'll just need to turn it on and select your antennas.

How do you make a recording of the received audio if DAX still outputs mono?

That is correct. HF communications are in Mono/slice so they are output in Mono via DAX that can easily be recorded with tools such as Audacity or VoiceMeeter. Sorry, I don't understand why it has to be stereo? If with 2 slices, you record each DAX output, one on the L and the other on the R. This can be done today.

@@FlexRadioSystems you have to be synchronized in order to perform any operations on the signals. Making two separate recordings will lose sync due to missed samples and other odd events. I have tried this, and it will happen. The only way I have been able to record diversity and stay synchronized is to tell windows the default sound device is “Line 1” then record from Line 1. This is using VAC. To hear what the audio is doing, you need to run an audio repeater piping Line 1 to Speakers.

Very confused always thought diversity receiver was two antennas with two receivers and having phasing software To block out man-made noises like from a plasma TV or solar panels on a house roof which brings out a weak signal from the noise floor basically what you’re doing is you’re overlapping two receivers which is really a multi receiver on the same frequency noise floor was just as loud.

Diversity reception is many things. It is what you do with it after you receive both signals that can very.

Art, you are 100% correct! The Diversity Reception you are referring to is beamforming or beamsteering, neither of which is possible with any of the Flex Signature Series 6000 radios. True beamforming/beamsteering requires phase-coherent receivers, which the Flex 6000 radios don't have. True beamforming/beamsteering has the ability to reduce (or even completely erase) a single-point source of interference from the sudio stream (and from the panafall). Unfortunately I can't attach a screenshot of my Thetis session running with Diversity Receive enabled, you'd be able to see exactly what I'm talking about.

This only works on the 6600 and 6700 which have two spectral capture units. The 6600 and 6700 are essentially two radio receivers in one box.

Will Diversity work for digital modes or is it only audio?

Yes, although I haven't tried it on the same band. I have a 6600 and run four instances of WSJT-X all the time on four different bands. Here is the target string you need in the icon properties when starting multiple instances: C:\WSJT\wsjtx\bin\wsjtx.exe -r="Flex 6600 Slice A". Change the "Slice" identifier for each slice, so "A" for the first slice, "B" for the second and etc.

No. Diversity audio is not available on the DAX streams. You will continue to receive single channel mono audio. Good question.

Roger, don't confuse diversity with using multiple receivers. BTW, did you know you can use SliceMaster to setup multiple instances of WSJTx running and it is much easier to set up than using the -r switch in WSJTx. Just a mouse click to make it happen.
