Hi Baby Hi NV 

Hi Baby Hi NV is a crazy impromptu-conceived song expression first recorded in the mid 1980s. I asked my cousin to just sing into a microphone, any song she would like to sing. She recorded the words, then I asked her to record a second take - this time raising the inflection at the end of each phrase. I then spliced these two vocal recordings together to create the longer version. There existed no accompaniment , so I used a Roland D-50 synthesizer to record the background rhythm (using one of the PCM strike samples) by manually triggering the samples to coincide with the vocals. I then added a horn-like synthesizer melody line. All the tracks added were made on a TEAC A-3440 four-track multi-track open-reel recorder and mixed to a mono version. For many years, this is how the crazy song existed. My cousin used her expressive voice to sing live and un-rehearsed the improvised words to her own creation, which she called "Hi Baby Hi". For this version, I double-tracked (twice) the mono recording, panning each track with a minute delay shift to create pseudo stereo. The stereo mix was then adjusted to balance out the volume levels. No other effects were added, nor any additional synthesizer sounds. The music lay dormant for many years due to the amateurish and juvenile nature of the song. However, there was potential in the song to create a humourous video collage of crazy and repeating images, much like a collage made of photographs to illustrate a humourous saying. The visuals are a collection of animated GIFs, off-air television programmes and other graphical elements - often colourised to wild proportions and levels of intensity . The result is crazy. The song is crazy, with the visuals to match. Perhaps the only useful concept that can be drawn from the song is the line "If your love is true, then don't deny it". This phrase, uttered on the fly with no pre-conception, is somewhat profound and all created by accident of a chance line being improvised on the moment. Hi Baby Hi featured as an amateur home video presentation for family entertainment in 1988, and before as a photocopied collage work for an amateur family entertainment booklet.
