Just found your channel and yes, please dive in to Ren and the big push, which is a band he’s in. You will not regret it. He is fantastic at storytelling, writing, singing instruments, as well as producing his own music. He has deep songs, some dark songs, and he has lighthearted and silly songs, but you’re not gonna find him sticking to one genre.
My favourite aspect is the whole journey and how he could find his way "out" - or to be in peace amongst those different sides, to accept life. Favourite parts: when he stands up, says i stand here with you today & the end "i must not forget - we must not forget - that we are human beings"
I think one big thing you'll notice about Ren's fans is that we come from almost all walks of life, and all ages. And the second thing about Ren fans is that we are (for the most part) compassionate and empathic people, who just want to lift each other up. I haven't seen this kind of love in a really long time, and it's beautiful.
So true. Ren's supporters are an oasis of positivity in the often negative world of youtube comments. Music (Ren's in this case) connects us and our compassion with each other, heals us. Love n peace
Ren is a renegade leading a musical renaissance. Truly a once in a lifetime genius. Welcome to the rabbit hole of pleasant surprises. Long live the RENegades!
"Some people know me as "hope" Some people know me as the voice that you hear When you loosen the noose on the rope" Gives me chills and makes me cry almost every time!
My favorite part: "Cower at the man I've become, as i sing from the top of my lungs. That i won't retire, I'll stand in your fire, inspire the meek to be strong."
It's only the thousandth time I've heard the song, but this time I realized that is my favorite line, as well. It's so triumphant -- and I am so moved by and thrilled about Ren's triumph over his own demons, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
Everything Ren does is intentional. Every word, every cord. He has many songs, none are the same, but all are fantastic. Your cringing will cease when you learn the amazing artist he is.
The best thing about this song is that it introduced me to Ren. After this I had to explore more. 18 months later I'm in deepest darkest Ren territory and loving every moment. Jump in bro, the waters lovely.
@@KidVisionReacts Oh it is a cult, but we call it a book club. Over a million followers...😎. Na, he is just an awesome authentic and honest (independent) musician that bares his soul to help others.
...and if you ever just listen to an interview with him (he was born in Wales and moved to England, where he busked with his band The Big Push), or just a post of him chatting with his fans, you will hear one of the humblest, and sweetest people you have ever heard.
My favourite part is the ending when he, with so much compassion and humbleness says “we are human beings”. It’s such a good reminder, we are not gods or angels ( so don’t put unrealistic expectations on yourself or others) we are not demons (so don’t hate on yourself or others). We are humans with a pendulum that swings - relax and the swinging won’t be as tough to handle. ❤❤
Yeah, I was broken by the time I got to the monologue, but "we are human beings" made me ugly cry for some reason. The fact that the reactor finds it "corny," was disappointing. I mean, everyone is entitled to feel how they feel, and I'd rather an honest reaction than a fake one, but to call or corny just seems odd. I know I'm a human being on an intellectual level; it's not something I can forget. It's such a simple statement, and yet it's so profound at the same time. We consistently dehumanize ourselves when we try to be perfect, when we think we can get rid of our "dark" side, when we fail to realize that we have to be at peace with knowing that we can't control it all. If we could, we wouldn't be human. That line was one of the hardest hitting lines for me. It was a reminder to that deeper feeling part of myself that lacks rationale. But everyone's mind works differently, and we all see things through different lenses based on our life experiences, preferences, and personalities, so it's not going to land for everyone.
@@justicedelayed “We consistently dehumanize ourselves when we try to be perfect […]” Wow. What an amazingly true statement that I’m not sure I had ever considered. 👏 👏👏 Thank You! 🫶
My favorite thing about this song is how well it portrays a human experience that I think each of us can relate to, but we don't really talk about much. It makes us feel less alone and more connected. But REN! If you go down this rabbit hole your life will be richer, & I'm here for it. Subbed for MORE REN!
Ren is a once in a lifetime artist who cant be pigeonholed into a specific genre. He can rap better the most rap artists, can sing numerous genres plays guitar and piano like a pro, and always seems to have a twist in many of his songs. When he brings out a new tune you dont know what to expect it could be a 50' style song, a 70's R&B, Reggae, Rap, a duet or a musical piece. Also his catolougue with his previous band The Big Push is phenomenal.
Welcome to the multitalented genius Ren. This masterpiece is just the tip of the iceberg. A powerful icing on the Ren-cake if you will 😅 He is a relatable voice for everyone dancing in the darkness as he eloquently, with all the authenticity of someone who is painfully familiar with it, lets us know that we are not alone and inspires us to keep dancing. And in doing so, Ren has literally saved lives with his art. I trust that other RENegades will fill you in on his backstory and probably recommend Sick Boi for insight into his frustrations from being misdiagnosed for years. I will just add a suggestion to check out one of my personal favourites: Crutch feat. Bibi. It’s an older song from before Ren was finally correctly diagnosed with Lyme disease and was written after a breakdown following multiple emergency trips to the hospital. It is heart wrenching and stunning. Also if you want to understand the man behind the art (and why we all love him so dearly), check out his 1m subscribers video on defining success. Ren is not just a brilliant artist but a genuinely good human being who wants to inspire positive change in the world. Hope to see you deep down the Ren rabbit hole with the rest of us 🐰🕳️
Not a cult, we’re a “book club” 🤭🤣🤣 Seriously though, take the journey if you choose 😊 As a 52 y/o Nan of 7 from Australia who is a mad Elvis, Queen, Led Zepplin & Eminem lover - Ren is beyond anything you will have experienced before - Enjoy! Great first reaction to this masterpiece 👏👏
@@KidVisionReacts He honed his craft busking - doing live music in the streets for whoever would stop. You learn to keep it real and engaging, and never to stop when a mistake happens. Hence most of his videos are one-shot.
If you do 1 Ren video a week, it would literally take you years to get through it all, and by then, he will have a lot of new stuff out. His catalog is very extensive. I have yet to find a bad song, and most of them I love.
Everything has been said in the comments. A good chunk of the fans are good friends and have gotten together over the last hear and a half. We hang out in Ren's rabbit hole Facebook page started by the fans, Ren or his team (all his best friends) stop in and say hello now and then or give us updates. Some reactors pop in as well. There are other places, I hang out on his patreon page. He shows bts on his music videos and life. We (the fans) are all over the world. Some meet up that live near each other. The amount of artists Ren attracts is insane. The fan art is insane. Drawings by hand, paintings, crafts, digital/computer art, etc.. We are all ages between 10-80. All walks of life, different ideologies, backgrounds, you name it. I don't agree with a large portion of his fan base on religion, politics, etc but we avoid those conversations and focus on Ren and the conversations he brings up with both physical and mental health. He speaks for those in the dark, the lost and the broken. His experience, and what he went through and currently goes through brings hope to many and shows they are not alone.
All the Renegades will be along to support you. Ren is without doubt the most talented person in music at the moment. Just when you think you’ve got him figured out he flips the coin. Best thing about this video is no matter what you are going through this song will relate to you, it’s means something different to everyone. Welcome to the world of Ren 😬
You definitely need to do more Ren. He has sooo much more to offer. You have no idea. I learned of Ren through this song about a year and a half ago and I've been deep diving into his music and his life. He's absolutely an amazing human being and has about 13 years of music on RU-vid of about every genre you can think of. He is the ultimate embodiment of music and he is all about lifting up humanity thru community. So inadvertently his fans, me Included, have been fully backing him in every way. I promise you will understand if you just start going down the Ren rabbit hole. Welcome to the renegades my friend
Wow - it's intense when the Renegades convene! I'd add Ren has a quit wit, wicked sense of humor, loves some raunchy lyrics and a fun time. It's not all heavy going!
"I stood in the flames that cremated my brain and i didn't once flinch or shake. So cower in the man I've become, when i sing from the top of my lungs, that i won't retire, I'll stand in your fire, inspire the meek to be strong" I swear this part gets me everytime cause it's that 'hero' moment, when you think they can't get up again...this summarizes a whole lotta Ren. In his songs, he explores his inspirations, expresses beauty, creativity, freedom, and the darkness (the pig is a running conspiracy almost, took forever before he explained what it meant to him as he was amazed by others interpretations). He is genuine, humble, and authentic. He lays his soul raw. His back story is inspirational as he was misdiagnosed for 10 years while Lymes disease corroded his body and he lost his contract with Sony. He literally thought he wouldn't live past 30. He just turned 34 and thanks to going viral over a year ago, he is getting some of the best treatment from everyones support. And he returns the act in kind, interacting with his fans and especially reactors who made it go viral. He will not copyright reactors, making a positive feedback loop to help their channels as well and is all about being an independent artist, as he discovered that with 'no label' means no chains on his pieces of art. It's worth a dive into the rabbit hole, and we as fans are so passionate but I promise it's not a cult bwahahac yeah, I saw those comments. He is too humble for that, he wants Community not division or separation and he doesn't let this fame go to his head. The Renegades just feel this need to be proactive in his support cause we are in awe but also this need to be protective because he does bare everything so effortlessly. Just like Ren supports reactors, so do his fans. There is just something special about spreading the power of this song and his discovery, and it never gets old no matter how many reaction videos are made, and cuz the echo chamber of YT I feel like I see a new reaction video in my feed everyday still and that means every fan does too. I believe there are even compilations, as there are literally 1000's. So the fans come in droves as new reacts drop. He is also currently still working and making new music. So I hope you enjoy!
Ren is one of those people who you only get once in a lifetime kind of talent. He is a legend the world just doesn't know it yet. Another thing this whole video was 1 take with multiple camera angles.
My favorite bit is that it was done in a room in the basement of his apartment flat without permission and they got cut off after the 4th try. His friends that back him up with the editting and visuals are awesome as well. Jenny and Screech have been recommended, video done in the street outside their flats, they have a guy you can see part way through Jenny's tale that in one take was screaming at them to shut up (that didn't make the final cut, but you can see him up in a window.) Having heard Hi Ren the first time, I had a fear that he might be one of those talents that ends up dead due to what he overcame in the beginning that makes him so special. I just hit 60 years old and he's the best thing I've heard as an artist since I was a kid discovering Pink Floyd.
Welcome to Ren , love seeing new reactors find him He has so much that you have never seen before. It's been a year since I first seen him and from there I just looked to see who I was listing to ? His story is pretty amazing. I can not think of just 1 you should do next ? All his music/stories/tales and trilogy's. I copied a description of Rens journey so far I have watched in interviews and blogs from Ren. He was bitten by a tick when he was 16 or 17 He got really sick from it and went to doctors and they could not figure what was wrong with him. When he had joint pain, muscle spasms, skin rashes, boils, internal organs started shutting down, And Doctors had no idea what was going on. He was loosing weight and had constant fatigue could not even stand to shower.. Doctors started sending him to psychological evaluations, They told him his mind was making him sick ! And started treating him for that with some heavy pharmaceuticals. And all that shit really fucked with his mind, He started believing he was crazy. And this went on for 8 fucking years !! 8 YEARS !! He pursued his own symptoms and lead to a Doctor that gave test for Lyme disease. Where he lived it was very rear to ever contract Lyme disease so he was never tested. When he went in described his symptoms the Doctor knew what he had. Ran the DNA test and found it in his system. However it has been in there for 8 years and has done a lot of damage to his body. He can only eat like 6 things his bones still hurt and the autoimmunity may never be healed. He had to go into surgery to remove tissue to generate stem cells grown outside his body then under go treatment taking the stem cells to remove the Lyme disease chromosome. That was in LA then he went to Calgary and under going treatment on the damage the Lyme left.. He is still there until June
I find Ren a very compelling artist. For a young man (at my age most people are young) he has had more than his fair share of trauma. His ability to articulate his feelings through his music, lyricism and the quality of his performances is extraordinary. His use of metaphor allows enough space for the listener to absorb and reflect on the meaning of his songs. Reminds me of Bowie in many ways. Comfortable in multiple genres, instruments and performance. A special artist indeed.
You mentioned Kendrick. Go on, you'll cross your paths.. "Hot lead hit the bed I was trapped in Red wings, seraphim out of God's grace Cried tears from Heaven like Clapton Stick pins in a voodoo, Hendrix Thick skin, stay humble, Kendrick Stay skeptic, check the biometrics Bloodstains, crime scene, forensic"
@@KidVisionReactsThe kicker? He ends the bar with 'forensic', a double of "For Ren's sick". And that's nothing compared to when you actually listen to the delivery of the flows and the pockets he creates.. 🤯
He did this in 1 take. That's one of the many things he's known for. Enjoy the trip down the Ren rabbit hole. You'll see pretty quick that his fans are a community. "The Renegades " will give you more hits on this than you imagined. Great reaction video.
Pretty sure you're mixing up one take with one shot. This entire video is a single shot beginning to end, but I think it was the second take to get exactly what he wanted.
Ignore the critics. Hi Ren has inspired so many that some get very touchy about it. Ren's last album was Hip hop, called Sick Boi which charted at #1 in the UK. His title track is a good 2nd song to react to. For storytelling, The Tales of Jenny and Screech Trilogy. (the 13 minute version has them together and in the right order) It's iconic. If you look at his last 4 tracks, you'd think 4 different artists did them. His last hip hop track was Nas Halftime Retake. His rap has many levels to it. He sings, raps, produces, directs, mixes and masters most of His music. He's known for his lyricism and his backstory is everywhere. I'm not gassing him up to say he Isa true visionary in music.
Welcome to the Ren experience. Enjoyed your reaction: subscribed so I can witness your journey down the Ren rabbit hole. Its worth the leap! Ren is masterful at live & one take videos. Hi Ren took 4 takes, I think. The Tale of Jenny & Screech Trilogy [full version with all 3 tales: Jenny, Screech & Violet's in one sitting is the best & only way to get the full impact.] Genesis, The Hunger, What You Want & Losing It are nice places to start too. Ren's collaborations with Chinchilla are powerful: Chalk Outlines & How To Be Me. Crutch ft Bibi is stunning. Money Game part 1, 2 & 3 are thought provoking [be sure that you select the lyric video for part 2... the live version of that one is a shorter version & you wont want to miss any of it.] You'll want to check out his catalog of busking videos too, including with his former band: The Big Push. Just expect the unexpected: Ren cant be put in a box. That will get you started. Its just the tip of the iceberg though. You'll find Ren's community is very supportive. He's a rare gem... that soothes souls & inspires others to do the same. Enjoy!
What I forgot to mention he has Lyme's disease after being bitten by a tic and went through several years of misdiagnosis. He is now getting proper treatment. But still struggles with his health and the loss of two childhood friends.
Thank you for your reaction to Ren. I appreciate your assessment. A friend forwarded this to me by chance when I was in a dark place. It was a shock to my system to hear the noose and pendulum analogies. It literally jolted me out of my own narsasitic spiral and some how, it gave me comfort to know that life is inconsistent. Things can and will change, maybe for the better. This realisation gave me the first bit of strength to get help and here I am today doing much better. There are many, many layers to this performance. Watching Hi Ren reactions has become a sport for me. I have watched hundreds and hundreds of reactions to date, including from mental health workers, survivors, music lovers, musicians, writers, actors and directors. Apart from a handful, all have loved it and pointed out the unique genius which exists in this performance. You are the first person I have seen that mentioned there are “corny” sections to this song. I respect your assessment, however I would like to suggest that you try watch it again uninterrupted. Maybe if you watch it uninterrupted you will find that the flow and context make it profound rather than corny- not sure but worth a try. No hate here, just a suggestion. I respect all honest criticism and opinions regardless of whether they are positive or negative. After all we are unique human beings and it makes life all the more interesting when we differ. I hope you continue reacting to Ren. Thanks again.
This is exactly what the song did for me, the monologue at the end in particular. Accepting that I wasn't going to just one day be "all better" and learning to not give up and let a bad day set me back, that was priceless ❤
Everything you said is fair! You're right though because these are my first reactions. I'm sure on future listens, I'll catch more and gain even more respect for it. I say this in most videos and all I can ask is for people's understanding💯
So heart warming to hear stories like this....good for you and and God bless Ren. Totally agree about the 'corny' bit...everything seems much more hard hitting when you listen straight through....goose bumps and teary eyes many a time.
I’m sure that it’s been said but this is Live and one take ( except the end which was from a different take). They only did 4 takes before they were caught and had to leave. Ren is a gift. Multi instrumentalist, multi genre, wise af, . He has given voice for those who don’t have one and by being so completely raw and honest and vulnerable .
2 Things, 1.) Welcome to the RENegade family, 2.) This rabbit hole goes DEEP. He doesn’t contain himself to any one particular genre; if he feels inspired he dives into what moves him. Touching on subjects of mental and physical health driven by his misdiagnosed Lyme disease to his dear friend Joe taking his own life, to his sheer love of music in general… REN has something for everyone. And when Chinchilla comes in and does duets with him?!?! Man… it’s a veritable cornucopia of auditory delights. Enjoy the ride my friend. 😁😁 You will find so many of us RENegade waiting for your reactions. We’re a positive group and we look forward to you reveling in his genius. Much love and respect from all of us to you! 🤜🏼🤛🏼
My favorite line : I'm the voice that you hear when loosen the noos on the rope. If you want to know who the guy is watch the video ''1 million sub..'' you don't have to react it, it's not a song, it's only his 'thank you' when he reached 1 milion sub, but you'll get exactly what this guy is made of. Next song ''Sick Boi'' . 1 thing I can promess to you: you'll never know what is the genre and you'll always be suprise. Keep on for Ren and more Renagade will come 😀
You only scratched the surface. When I first watched this music video by Ren, I cried. I cried because I have chronic pains & finally there’s an artist that knows my struggles. Ren has a discography that goes back a decade. I will let you figure that out for yourself. The Renegades will give you lotsa information about his journey.
Just deep dive Ren you will be suprised. I think I saw this one then went straight to the tale of Jenny and screetch trilogy. You have to watch them all together. Also his videos are done live. He plays guitar and piano and can sing and rap and is a master story teller. He has so so many songs you can check out
Grateful for your reaction. Do you want rap at dizzying speed and slower with constant flow changes? The answer is Ren; Do you want hard rock, regge, blues with an old flavor, pop...? Ren Do you want to hear soul-wrenching stories and fun songs? Ren again. I have subscribed. Good luck on your trip and enjoy it!
Angels are always in the light and demons are always in the dark. So when he said "we are human beings" he just meant that we have to except the light and the dark times. Which wasn't easy for him because he has Lyme disease but he was misdiagnosed for 10 years. And was given meds which caused the psychosis. And has spent years in bed because he was in too much pain to even get outta bed. So he has had a lot of dark times.
I think it wasn't the meds which caused the psychosis. At least according to himself. He said it was the high hopes he had for one particular expensive treatment (fecal transplant) - which he heard helped many and he was able to pull out the money to have it at last... ...and it made him feel even worse, to suffer immensly. And that coming down from the high hopes - after so many different treatments and hopes - was the last thing. He couldn't take it anymore. Started to think it must be a test, he's been punished and tortured by gods or devils.. and downward the spiral into psychosis he fell. (Through the cracs in the night sky)
@@kevinsykes2549originally diagnosed with bipolar, depression, anxiety. The ME/CFS in 2011. Then Lyme in 2016. When he wrnt Canada in 2023 also diagnosed with MCAS, POTS, Disautonomia, and some co infections.
Prepare for the Renegades...they are coming and we will demand you watch more of Ren!!! Lol! I would recommend Chalk Outlines next, followed by the Tales of Jenny and Screech (The FULL VERSION). Prepare for the Rabbit Hole, my friend, you won't believe what you're in for. Ren is a revolutionary, once in a lifetime artist. I'm nearly 50, I've been following his career for about year...I've never seen an artist like him, I've been a musician my whole life and I've worked in the club and music festival scene for nearly 20 years. This man is truly a genius. I will leave it up to the other comments to fill you in on the health battle Ren has been fighting, but I will say that to some degree his wisdom and perspective comes from his devastating sickness.
Ren is a genius ! He sings, rapps, plays guitar, piano, drums and bass, he's a song writer, poet, storyteller and producer (he's making his own beats). He's an independant artist and he's a wonderful man. He's been through so much, but he's always managed to create amazing music because of it. His rabbit hole is so deep and each of his songs is different. Welcome !! 😘
You have entered the Realm of Ren I hope you are ready, and you may laugh at that statement because it's "cringe" but I am laughing inside because you have no idea what you have gotten yourself into.
First, welcome to the family. Second, what a fantastic reaction -- and I, like most Renegades, have seen dozens (and dozens) of reactions to this song. Thank you! Ren fans support all reactors who delve into Ren's work, and you'll find we're here from now on, passionately engaging with everything on your channel. We can be a bit much, honestly. 🙃 I'm sure others have said this, but Ren writes and performs in an extraordinary number of genres and his catalogue is deep and wide. He put out a #1 album late last year (Sick Boi) and already has most of his next album written and a lot of it recorded. He does everything himself, from writing to arranging to recording to making beats to... He has a string quartet on Money Game 3 and wrote and arranged that, as well. There is so much more to say, but mostly I hope you dive in and experience it all. Even the stuff you don't like (if there is any) you'll admit is brilliantly done. Again, welcome, and thanks! [EDITED TO ADD: To see his extraordinary versatility, check out one of his latest: "Back on 74/Message in a Bottle Retake". It's unlike anything else he's shown us and it's out of this world!]
There's LOTS or Ren stuff now going back years, propelled by his abrupt online popularity. Everything from a street musician cover of Bob Marley to a comic homage to old Beasty Boys mvs.
Ren IS Ren, I will be there for anything he does and the hours and hours of reaction video's to his creative geniusness...❤❤ RENegade love❤❤ looking forward to your next Ren reaction...please let it be Sick Boi..😂
I'm so glad you have discovered Ren! I don't know your background so I can't comment on your experiences but want to say this guy is incredibly authentic and imo, the furthest thing from cringe or corny. He has opened the door to mental health in a way society has been unable to do. I am grateful for his music. Did u notice that was live and done in one take? They were in a basement and told they had to get out so they did it in a half hour. The Renegades will provide more info but essentially Ren has Lyme disease which was not properly diagnosed for about 8 years. He suffered tremendously and was told by the medical community it was all in his head. He was treated for depression among other things and since the actual disease was not diagnosed, his body was ravaged for years. He received 2 stem cell transplants and is in Canada receiving further treatment. Please watch his Thank You to 1 Million RU-vid subscribers and his definition of success to get to know the artist better ❤ Will sub for more Ren 😊
Renegade here! Welcome to Ren. He has such diverse talents you’ll find there’s something for every genre. Have fun going down the rabbit hole my friend. My favorite thing about this song is that it brought together thousands of us from across the world who are suffering mentally and physically. We Renegades have the most loving and supportive group out there. It’s saved a lot of our lives. 💜
Ren would suit you. A lot of material, all good, very varied. Primarily he loves rapping, especially using a more faithful hip hop approach but because he does not place himself in a genre each piece of music sounds different. Honestly, there is no other Ren type musician out there. He loves kendrick and shouts him out occaisionally.
Welcome to the rabbit hole, bro. Strap yourself in for the ride, just subbed to follow your journey👍 Ren, as well as a band he was in, The big push, have an incredible catalogue of music, I'm sure you will run out words to describe them 😂😂 enjoy the ride👍🇬🇧
Welcome to the wonderful world of ren, where you can always expect the unexpected 😊 subbed in hopes of more ren, its a long way down the rabbit hole, alice 😁🐇🕳💜 I heard someone say recently that ren doesn't think outside the box, he LIVES outside it, and that is so true 😊
Welcome to the RENegades! Ren is music. He was misdiagnosed at age 17, he really had Lyme disease but was diagnosed with Bipolar. All the time he was dealing with an illness he never had the one he did have wreaked havoc on his mind and body. Gave him some brain damage. He spent 10 years like this and now finally thankfully is getting treatment in Canada for his lyme disease. He lost his best friend to suicide. Dude has been though a lot. October 2023 he had the number 1 album in the UK fulfilling his childhood dream required watching Sick Boi Illest of our time Tale of Jenny, tale of screech, violet's tale (in that order) Money game Part 1, 2 and 3 Animal flow Suicide
Not only is Ren a once in a lifetime artist, the artists he collaborates with are all top tier and add another avenue for discovery. Ren is a very deep rabbithole. And there is no box that fits him. If you like pure rap, The Hunger is a good one. If you like unusual rap Genesis is a different masterpiece. The natural follow up to this is Sick Boi where he hits hard with fierce intensity. Power is a radio-ready bop. Seven Sins is a masterful opening track for his recent album. And then there's beautiful singing in the live versions of How To Be Me and Chalk Outlines. Welcome to the journey.
Ren is an amazing independent artist from the UK, I hope you look him up and check out more of his music. He is diverse in his music. You can't put him in a box and label him.
Hello! New subscriber to witness your experience of the multilayered genius of Ren. I will check out your other reactions as well. I'm challenged with decades of chronic pain and fatigue due to dysautonomia from C-PTSD. For years, I'd "curse my clumsy footsteps," as Ren so eloquently puts it. I'd get SO angry at my body for preventing me from many activities most people take for granted. Ren continues, "But I got older, and I learned to relax. I learned to soften, and that dance got easier." I still occasionally find myself cursing my body for hurting so intensely. But I always hear Ren's words, which help me treat myself with gentleness and compassion. For this alone, on top of all the other blessings Ren bestows upon humanity, I will forever be grateful. Enjoy the journey of Ren! 🙋♀️💖
After lots of rehearsal they had this location for only a few hours. In that time they did 4 takes, The audio is one take but the visuals are cut from three different takes and four? cameras. The landlord came and threw them out so they had to stop. (Ren agrees that in retrospect he finds his 'Bad Ren' voice a bit cringey, but OTOH IMHO it would have lost impact if it didn't have immediacy and a cartoonish character)
This was shot in a basement they didn't have permission to use. After the first take, the super came in screaming for them to get out. They begged for more time and the super gave them 30 minutes. They got 4 takes in total and put the video together with those takes. Ren said he was sure they didn't get it right, but showed his friends what they did get and his friends were like "whoa". He said that told him they did get a good one❤
My favorite parts of this song are the sucker punches that first time reactors take. From "you gotta kill you..." to "loosen the noose..." - but especially the transition to singing after "flinch or shake." Just remember as you recover from the after-effects of listening to the Tale of Jenny and Screech that he does have many upbeat songs as well.
Welcome to the rabbit hole. Here's a little insights for the journey. Ren is an artist the likes of which we haven't seen. He's his own thing. And he does not adhere to any genre. Some of his music fits the barcore title its been given, but much of it does not. Rens fans aka Renegades are many and diverse, its a community I've never experienced around any other artists. Yes Taylor Swift and Beatles fans are fanatical, but whats different about the Renegades is that they are international and range in age from 13 to 85. Ren has a way of saying what we're all thinking, just in the most elegant manner. The other Renegades will tell you about his health condition and struggles which is what gives him so much depth. He recently went #1 in The UK with his album Sick Boi beating out Rolling Stones, Ed Sheeran, and Rick Astley. And he did this as a true independent artist. No label, no management, and no shows, as he was in Canada for much of the year getting stem cell treatments. Here's some need to know... If you want to talk, pause, but every line is so packed with meaning you'll miss the best stuff sometimes. U. An pause and talk all u want, well still watch. Also, when deciding on what ren track to react to next, pay close attention and ask the community, as some of the versions are insanely good. Sometimes its more than one version thats great. Other than that enjoy. And get ready for the most surprising music journey of your life.
To really know what Ren had to go through. Listen to his "Seven sins" lyric video. But usually the 2nd video is "Sick Boi" But really need to start with his older stuff. Before he got ill he did some street performing with his band The Big Push. When finally diagnosed and getting treatment he did more busking, but had to stop and go to Canada for deep treatment for his Lyme disease.
His first band was Trick the Fox. Then he lost most of his 20s to undiagnosed Lyme disease. He still wrote and produced music from his bedroom when he could and has about a thousand songs on his hard drive . Lyme , when left untreated, can destroy your body, mind and life. Ren developed many autoimmune conditions including MCAS and has brain damage. He has been in Canada getting IV treatments and brain retraining 5 days a week fir 14 months now and will be there till June. He is in Connecticut right now doing a music video with Chris Webby and doing a late birthday celebration with his mates. He just turned 34. After 2 stem cell treatments in 2016-17 helped form a band The Big Push, active until 2022 when he moved to Canada. He works with a small independent label and maintains full ownership and control of his music. Sick Boi should be next and then Jenny and Screech (full). Subbed fir more Ren please. Welcome to the Rabbit Hole.
"And i go by many names also some people know me as hope, some people know me as the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose in the rope". Because when i was 15 i didn't want not to be here anymore but a voice stopped me from doing it....i'm glad i listend to that 30 years ago.
My favourite part is the line... "the voice that I hear, when you loosen the noose on the rope" 😢 what a line!! I hope you deep dive into Ren there is alot more variety in his art than I thought possible from one artist.
