Ren has said that this song is about battling your inner critical thoughts. Every human has this to some extent. Many people don't pay attention to what that voice sounds like in them. It's never pretty tho. If Ren performed it in any other way, it wouldn't have the impact it does. He's agnostic, not Christian. Faith and God are subjects that are in his music often. He doesn't disbelieve. He just doesnt know. Ren explains this is his Hi Ren Behind the Scenes video. Ren recently put out an 8 chapter video series chronicling the years of his illness. In chapter 1 he explains what he meant by "When I was 17 yrs old..."
Thanks for explaining this so very well and respectful towards Ren. I gas him up all the time ,i like to have fun and be silly about it. 😂 But I cherish everything about Him that he gives and shares with us. I hope he knows that he really has done an unimaginable amount of good in this world already. I would be absolutely crushed if there was never any new Ren Art/music/theater.... But if it meant for Him to stay healthy and happy.... then thats what i would pray he does. Hes given us so many masterpieces. no artist has ever or will ever (i truly think that he wont be caught or surpassed) has touched something in people. Wjere jist like I feel its me hes commecting woth most of all.personally..... but thats how each person that hears his music especially this one feels ... but he manipulates my emotions loke nothing ive ever experienced... sorry. I just have to keep telling people.... its like"Have you heard of the church of Ren?" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. Jk...... thats what it feels like though. Ren practices until he has muscle memory so when he sings the song he doesn't have to think about so much, just perform it. I can't imagine how many times Ren sang this song before they filmed it where he automatically knew which guitar piece went with which Ren while systematically turning to face the other way. Days and days I would imagine. Ren explained what the two voices meant to him in an interview on the Zach Sang Show. It is a good interview. Thank you for your review.
Ren had undiagnosed Lymes disease for 8 yrs. He was misdiagnosed with bipolar depression, chronic fatigue & also told it was all in his head. Lymes attacks every part of the body. For several years he was so ill that he was barely able to get out of bed. Since being correctly diagnosed he's had stem cell replacement treatments, surgery to repair damaged joints & almost 2 yrs. of antibiotic & other treatments at a clinic in Calgary, Alberta to rebuild his health, including repairing the myelin sheath in his brain that had been eaten away. He is not completely well & may never be. He still lives with pain & fatigue.
I know more and more people these days with undiagnosed limes decease. It is way more common than I thought. I am glad he is still making music. I am a new fan.

Whenever my inner self tells me I'm not good enough, that I'm not doing enough, that I'm not smart enough, I come back to this song. I remember that Ren taught me to dance with my demons, not fight them. This song helps. Subbed for more Ren!! Your partner really missed out with this one.

10:32 interesting thought, but I feel it started in the 80's and 90's when they put all those kids on Ritalin. I remember kids being on the same arcade games all day well before cellphones. Videogames, cellphones, etc, aren't the problem imo. They're symptoms. Enjoed your video. Thank you.

Great reaction to this masterpiece. I agree with you on the phone theory. When you get hit with depression all you see and feel is a deep black hole and you want to get away from it. Thankfully it wasn’t my time. Subbed for more Ren.
