Hiawassee is a small city in Towns County with a population less than 1,000 residents. The name of the City comes from the Cherokee people which means "meadow".
Lake Chatuge is a man made lake built in 1942. This 7,200 acre lake is a piece of heaven placed between the North Carolina and Georgia Mountains. The average depth is only 30 feet but is approximately 150 feet at the dam.
