I visited Alaska for the first time and went solely to watch the northern lights in Fairbanks. It was in late February and the temperature dropped to -20F when I was outside taking the photos, we had two feet of snow but it was well worth it. Amazing landscapes and the lights are truly a thing to experience at least once in your life. You can see pictures of them but you need to see them in person.

Outstanding Presentation. Living here in AK I learned something new regarding the Pebble Mine. Get Involved if you can. Protect what was here first. Let nature do its thing. We as a society need to start voting with our dollar, and begin to consume less, and waste little. Excellent words spoken by the speaker. Amazing shots of the best place on earth -

I had no idea about this proposed mine, so thanks for sharing. I signed the petition. We, as humans, have to realize that quality of life is more important than money.

I lived in rural Alaska for 16 wonderful years, until I was diagnosed with a very rare cancer and had to come to the lower 48 for 1 of the five doctors that was familiar with the cancer. Alaska is very beautiful. There are no pictures or movies can portray how beautiful it really is. Only a visit will do. Winters are only boring in Alaska for people that shouldn't be living there. ;-)

***** Thanks so much.... I so appreciate it! I've been free of the cancer for 7 yrs...Yay! However unfortunate, since , along with other health thst have arisen, Brain Tumor, RA.... I had a botched, what was supposed to be a short, minor surgery last june 2013. The Dr. left me with multiple BiLateral Pulmonary Embolisms and a Pulmonary Infarction in the lower quadrant of my right lung...unbelievably painful and deadly. I count my Blessings I'm still here. I was in Critical for 5 days. Then, this year in the beginning of April, I developed another Pulmonary Infarction in the other lung on the left, after the heartache from having to bury my big brother two weeks earlier. I'm not healing up so well this time. It's going to take some patience. It takes awhile for that lung tissue to regrow after it has died. I can't do much, and it can be extremely painful. Nevertheless, I am grateful, in that I am comforted by Faith in Christ Jesus... My family has been Great... I also have an incredible team of Doctors... So I'm just not going to worry about it. ;-) Life is so sweet, why waste the short time we have here on earth, worrying about the Flesh, when it is the Joy of the Spirit that enriches, :-) If you feel the pull of Alaska, you should definitely go. You will never be the same after being there!

Alaskans are generally very laid back. They are very individualistic and live life on their own terms. You kinda have to be rugged to live in most places. But there are certain appeals to Alaska that draw a lot of people: the fresh water/air; the outdoors; wildlife; hunting; fishing; boating; relaxing, etc. Basically, if you love the outdoors, Alaska is for you. If not, it's probably not the best mix. Even Anchorage has some pretty crazy winters, moose walking the streets, etc. Alaska rocks.

Northern Alaska is the best. Going on Dalton Highway above the Arctic circle is where the landscape really shows its self. I am planning on visiting the most deserted areas in the northernmost part of Alaska.

I live here in Alaska. I've lived throughout the lower 48 and being prior military i've been all over the world. This place(country) is a hidden treasure. It's amazing!!!!!!! There is no hustle and busle per say....... This is life that's pure and free. Really, you can actually walk into Walmart or Fred Myer with mud all over you and people don't look at you like "What the h--l. Just amazing.................

i lived there for like 7 months. 5 months in winter. and it was really fun. I liked to go snowmobiling in really crappy weather because its so dangerous and exciting. it did get boring after a while. thats when you just walk in the wilderness and discover something new. or be a daredevil and take your quad through some snow. scary stuff!

It really depends on where you live. I lived for 5 years in a village of 200 people named Port Lions which is on Kodiak Island. There were 5 miles of unpaved roads, no stores, no roads in or out. It's a hunter and fisher's paradise. It's gorgeous. But then the weather is also a factor, raining about 100 inches a year. But then there are places in Alaska like Anchorage with 300,000 people, universities, and everything a big city has.

Yes we would. You should start working with some hunting lodges, bush pilots, guides etc. to put together some hunting and fishing packages for soldiers as well as sight seeing packages. I'm sure you can get local businesses to offer discounted prices for military.

I live in B.C. and eat Alaska salmon because we've destroyed our salmon streams with logging and mining. What happens when Alaska does the same thing? Bottom line: you can't eat copper and you can't eat money. Food and water come from nature and we must preserve it!
