A hidden camera investigation found Ohio garbage collectors dumping recycling cans outside homes into the back of the same truck where they dump regular trash.
That is probably what happened. They were probably trying to do two routes to cover for missing crew members or they were probably running on a skeleton crew.
@@texasgarbagetrucks6206 1. You‘re wrong most recyclables, especially the plastic, are dumped in the landfill because the recycling market is just not profitable at the moment (it hasn‘t been since China banned trash imports to them in 2017) 2. You need to learn to articulate yourself in a appropriate manner.
You got it wrong. You meat to say that, “they are doing more hard physical work than the reporter will ever do.” The reporter has to do hard work too investigating and interviewing.

There are more things to focus on and worry my friend....
@@I-Told-U-So "Once the trash at the dump land. Trash people have to go thru them overall anyway." Unlikely. Recycling contamination is an issue. That means that if paper, for example, becomes dirty, it's unrecyclable in most cases. Furthermore, it already takes effort to sort mixed recycling. It's dangerous for people to sort through garbage for recyclables as all sorts of things (ranging from dog feces to vomit) are found in garbage. This is why recyclables must be collected separately.
EXACTLY... the ONLY reason cities even participate in a recycling program is to get the recycling subsidies... what this NOSEY eyeball news squad should do is follow their precious recyclables to the dump and really find out what is done with them... now there's your surprise right there
If that's the case the private company the city hires in this case Kimble should inform the city, and the public they won't be accepting recycling. It seems like they're getting paid to accept recycling and just throwing it away. That's fraud.
@@oscarq180sx who gives af, what about my $, if they can’t perform get them out. And FYI the reporter is doing what he gets paid to do unlike those workers who tried lying and then gave 2 different excuses!
Maybe its what they were told to do, plus 96% of recycling isnt used, it shiped to places like china and they usually dump it in rivers and oceans or burn it.
I work at a recycling center, and we make sure everything that is brought to us is 100% recycled. To see this video of the truck drivers not caring, is just upsetting to me..
Most private companies do this the owner tells them recycling is free which cost company money one small companies can't pay to get rid of someone else's free recycling I'm a garbage man and I work up at the landfill this is complete nonsense most of the recyclables get thrown in the garbage anyways cuz there's no market
Most of the recycle I pick up ( in bulk bins) is badly contaminated ,when we speak to management about this they ignore us and tell us to Get on with it.
Truth spokenAs a former garbageman I did this for many years and you’re right recyclable is always contaminated you only get a handful of people who actually do it correctly the rest put garbage in it so what’s the point some of it even goes to the transfer station and gets sorted out you get more trash out of it that you do recyclable truth be said
The first issue:: consumers do not know proper recycling. They dumped them because it was bagged and also other items can contaminate the recycle load.
@@nousername5673 most cities request recycling is unbagged so sorting is easier. New York is different due to the fact all the bags are left on the curb, don’t want loose recycling blowing around do you?
@@DanielWDonuts I don't know the specifics of the recycling program mentioned in the video, and you certainly are correct. Here in Canada, my recycling program along with many others in my province don't have recycling bins for houses. Rather, they ask us to bag recycling in clear, blue bags. Some programs allow plastic bags to be recycled curbside; they simply ask that we bundle them into one bag (e.g. a shopping bag) and tie closed, then put it in the blue bag along with the other recyclables.
Most people DO NOT know how to recycle, and I'm talking about obvious problems I see often: like PLASTIC BAGS, DIRTY items, bubble wrap, STYROFOAM!!, hangers, shredded paper(too small for recycling centers to be handled), paper with crap on it like glitter...even at 3:50 the lady has a plastic cup with a straw...some might take the cup, but from what I've been taught, trash both of them, especially the straw. One day some guy that worked for the apartments I used to work at showed me a LONG list of fines the property got due to contamination...keep in mind I was new at the time, and even now with experience there's no way I can stop hundreds of residents from wrongly throwing their contaminated crap into the recycling. So after looking at this list, I started looking at their "recycling", and was shocked by just how horrible it was then, and how it continues to be now. The rules of what is and isn't recycling are literally on the recycling dumpster itself, but they either don't read it, or don't care. Yet, you have these entitled Karens that want to blame the trash guy, it's not their fault, it's yours. So fox 8, you have earned a dislike from me.
So I haven’t been written up or reprimanded yet for grabbing recycling while others have, I’m township, we do trash then dump then recycle pick up, I have had to explain what you just to so many residents plus the old ladies like the one who complained “so many times” that what I’ve noticed were damned if we do damned if we don’t…. Worst altercation I’ve actually had is we have to hand lift 90gal toter cans, we’re not advised to but we still do it we don’t have the fancy lifter shit, well one guys recycle can was filled with beer bottles cardboard and newspaper and water…. I grab it and like whoa nah I’m not taking this… I wasn’t running the gears so he goes I got it said go ahead he said nah then the driver got out said he’ll get he said NAH and we tag it, this guy storms out of his house and dumps the recycle can…. He’s got 10 bricks at the bottom with atleast 2 gallons of water at the bottom. So we red tagged his house. This guy comes out 3 months later with a shotgun saying if you don’t take it you’re all dead…. I’m about to hop off to grab the 2 cans he has and the truck jolts me back on the step driver sped off and dude fire 3 slug rounds at us…. One hit the truck the 2 idk where they went but this is over trash and recycling… we have no a weapon policy but my truck has a permit to carry because of that route…. The shit we go through.
My garbage company did that to me once. I was so thankful because they hadn’t grabbed my recycling in a month and I was tired of putting it out and bringing it back in full
We get that sometimes in Columbus Ohio. They don't take the recycling for weeks! It just piles up. I'm wondering if the recycling places are full and they're just diverting to the landfill? Do they sort at the landfill? Maybe some places but not others? I have become interested in landfills/recycling and where everything really goes and what really happens to it.
This happened here also. They did the whole neighborhood! I contacted the company and the city and got no response from nobody, not even the city. Crazy part is the city can fine you up to $50 if you put recyclables included with normal trash lol
what do people expect? they leave their recycling out in the rain with their lids open and so on, maybe not all people but when you're doing 1500 pickups on one load imagine what happens to that "recyclable" paper and other shit. recycling facilities look pretty identical to trash dumps go be a fucking disposal employee to see how it goes or shut the 🦆up
This is true. The 3Rs are "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" in that order. The first R is reduce, not recycle. And yes, these days recycling isn't that much beyond landfilling....especially with ignorant people dumping so many contaminates into the single stream.
Yeah hotels do this too. I was watching a cleaning lady at the lobby of a Hilton dump the recycle in her garbage bin where she emptied the trash in. I didn’t seem to ask her until I’ve noticed it for 4 days since I was in a conference at the hotel. I asked her if they recycle and she said we do but we don’t separate them.
I'm pausing the video at : 24 to comment. I drive a garbage truck for a living and been doing so for the last 18 years. Mixing garbage, organics, cardboard, and general recycling is hardly newsworthy. The naive people of the world who don't know how the waste business works might be shocked, but no one inside this industry would be surprised. On rare occasions I have someone off the street comment, "Hey did you just dump the garbage and the recycling together?" My reply is, "It's the way the office put my route together today. Give them a call. They might have made a honest mistake." For anyone who truly wants to make a small, but positive change in the area of reduce, reuse, and recycle - the first 2 should be your top priority - recycling is by far the least effective. You'd be blown away by how much genuine recycling gets dumped at the garbage dump. If you see a recycling truck collecting straight recycling, and you think "Oh I feel good about that" it often goes straight to the incinerator or landfill without you knowing.
I called the council in Australia - in Melbourne to be exact as I wanted to know more information about penalties so I can tell my cousin about it as he constantly mixed garbage. They told me “it doesn’t matter if you mix the garbage, they sort it out later” I’m like .....wtf
I know people say they want to throw as much into recycle cuz I think it helps the environment but depending on where the recycle gets dropped off and sorted they have certain regulations on what they can and cannot take usually there's a website or in most cases it's listed right on your recycle container. Got to remember a lot of the recycle goes through a sorting process gets bundled and then sent overseas to places like China and Indonesia and as of lately those places have been not taking the contaminated recycle so the rules get more strict nowadays
No the supervisor probably ordered these employees to do that to save money on gas as this looks to be a very contaminated recycling room so it’s probably not worth even bringing it to the recycling center
I do waste disposal. This mostly happens on roads that multiple trucks cant get to. So they just grab recycling on the trash truck too to lighten the load on the actual recycling truck
As a trash truck driver I see companies weekly dumping right next to me that claim to be recycling only. Both my trash and their recycling will get pushed up into the same pile too. It all goes to the same place in my region apparently
Too bad recycling actually costs money so if anything people should pay to have their shit recycled until it becomes profitable. It’s a privilege I guess to feel like you’re not polluting even though you are
“Wants you to believe virtually every can is filled with trash” proceeds to flip lid and show 2 cans with pieces of plastic wrap that are not recyclable, AKA Garbage
My favorites are the "peepers" Those are the people who peek from behind shades or pinch open blinds.. I would always see them on the night shifts I worked. I always waved hello to them.
I've seen the city trucks do the same thing here in San Diego. The only reason that I have any concern about it is that the city is complaining that they are running out of room at the dump. It will be some expensive bureaucratic solution. At one time, the city of Tijuana offered to take the trash in San Diego for less than what it cost for San Diego to process it. Bureaucrats and politicians were screaming that it would be taking unfair advantage of Tijuana, so they didn't do it.
Lol there are some garbage men that actually are nice and actually does their job right I will forever be great full for the drivers who treated my brother with special needs like he was apart of team by bringing him vest and letting him help out just in front of the house something so little meant so much for him for us So respect to all them who does their job with love even through it’s be hard at times
You didn’t see ME do anything to they separate it at the dump? Your workers were just confused about procedure to blaming the customers, yadda yadda yadda. Just be honest and stop charging for recycling if your just dumping it in the same place.
@TrashPanda RaccoonI was referring to the general lack of good informational news. Seems like most stories we see are opinions anymore and not based on any facts. #ImADemocrat 👍🙄🤦♀️
Your dumb af I wish you knew how hard this job is and dangerous. Im a trash man but we don’t have the loaders everything is done by hand. Recycle is a huge hassle along with it only makes people lose money and it can’t be shipped overseas.

@@nataliaengelby9251 You mean plastic? China still accepts uncontaminated, sorted plastic. Also, you ignore metal, paper, and glass recycling. Also, the garbage collectors should not even be touching the recycling bins.
People DO throw garbage in with the recycling. It's not an insult, it's simply reality. I find myself looking it up and thinking wow, this is garbage, I woulda tossed it into recycling. Then you have people who don't think twice. They think it should be able to be recycled, therefore it will be. Or they think these sorters are infallible magical machines that never break and are super cheap.
as a former garbageman i can tell you this happens more then people know numerous times my supervisor told me to mix garbage & recycle usually when another driver calls out & were the only truck in the area..... but usually he would tell us to get all of the recycle first then come back around & get garbage so residents wont know 😂
Facts we separate the trash at least 7 diffrent ways anyways. There are 5 different grades of plastic that have to be separated. Paper glass and food waste also
Recycle is dead folks. I manage a recycle center. Very little plastic is recyclable anymore. No market for it. Period so get your facts before you jump on your garbage guy.
The home owner they should get $600 dollars fine they are old enough to know better and know the difference and the company are picking up o collecting the trash they should get $600 dollars fine for dumping Recycle products into Regular trash !!
Who the fuck cares. The only reason i recycle is cause i run out of room in my can. I dont give a shit where it goes as long as it gone when i get home from work.
Former recycle driver. 75% of the cans I pick up contain more trash than recyclables . And the whole tagging the can situation is pointless. You would be tagging almost entire neighbor hoods and no ones recyclables would be picked up . No one recycles correctly
I see this all the time! I was thinking why even take the time to separate the garbage if they’re just putting it in the same truck. Doesn’t make sense.
They have different separating processes now then they used to.. alot of recycling plants now use big hoppers that every goes into, that has a huge fan on the bottom (like those indoor skydiving things).. those fans blow all the paper and cardboard at the top, and the heavy metal and such stays at the bottom and it also does more neat stuff that I dont feel like typing...
Bagged recycling doesn’t go into a recycling. I’m a garbage man and if I see a contaminated recycling I’ll dump it. Glass and dirty plastics do not go into recycling
Most of these guys are private contractors these days. They save a ton of money in dumping fees doing that crap. My town had a huge scandal years ago over bribes between contractions and and town officials.
As a retired sanitation driver most of the time there’s garbage in the recycling cans anyway. Recycling is a big money loser anyway, my cities recycling program loses nearly 600 k every year on recycling program.
Its common practice. All the airlines do it; as to most hotels and other businesses such as Whole Foods. They just mix all the garbage together. The separate containers are only to pacify the stupid customers. Recycling is a stupid waste of time and money and most businesses won't do it.
THIS is what the "news" concerns itself with... People should be ashamed. Leave the poor man alone. And, newsflash!...most "recyclables" wind up in landfills overseas. Get over it.
