Texas law allows walking down the street with a sword... a battle axe, a pole arm, etc. It allows MOST KNIVES / bladed weapons and tools to be carried if the person is 18 years of age or with parent or guardian. -- There are PLACES where no knife is allowed, -- there are PLACES that are designated "Length Limited Locations" (LLL) where no knife with a blade over 5.5" can be carried, and -- there is everywhere else. Texas law changed Sept. 1, 2017, removing the term "illegal knife/knives" in favor of Length Limited Locations. I carry a pocket clip assisted open knife (sometimes referred to as an "automatic" knife or "switch blade") now in place of my one hand opening Spiderco. It is simply more convenient to be able to open a knife without requiring two hands. I usually carry a longer fixed blade knife for defensive purposes, and I pull it out and drop it in my console if I am going somewhere that is designated an LLL. Texas is also now a permitless carry state, also referred to as "Constitutional Carry". If a person can legally purchase and own a handgun, then they can carry it openly or concealed. Interestingly enough, the restrictions on carrying it are very similar to knife restrictions. There is a poster that a business (and I suppose a personal residence) can display disallowing the carry of a handgun on those premises. Texas is NOT the only state with similar gun laws, but I do not know about knives. BTW there are no gunfights in the streets or supermarket isles, as many anti gun people suggested would happen. In fact, violent crime statistics have either remained unchanged or fallen a bit. Gary Klek, PhD in Sociology, wrote the book _Armed_ to provide a realistic and well researched view of gun violence and the lack thereof. He interviewed violent offenders in prisons across the nation, and the one thing they all stated was wishing to encounter a police officer during commission of a crime rather than a LEGALLY ARMED private citizen. Police are trained heavily in NOT using their gun, while those criminals all felt an armed citizen they tried to mug, rape, rob, etc, would more likely shoot them.

@@dsfgnk4same here Arizona, I can carry and use my swords which is nice for outdoor practice. It’s very different when traveling where you have to be careful with local rules. When I have returned to NY to visit and study, it is best to be much more discrete. Friends in London and other places are under much greater restrictions.

That figure of 8 pops up all over taichi, must be some yin and yang involved😂. Nice moves indeed 👍

Great point! Maybe the following is the reason that figure-eight motion frequently occurs in Taiji: Each part of a human body has a limit of back-and-forth (linear, one-dimensional) motion in which the movement must stop at each end point and then restart. In order for movement to be continuous, its dimension of movement must change at the end points. A figure eight has circularity at its end points compared to a simple back-and-forth, one-dimensional motion. Figure-eight movement has circularity, is continuous, is more natural, and therefore, is preferred in Taiji.
