I bought the Gold Overdrive a couple weeks back and I was super impressed with the tone & response of it. However, there was something missing in the highs. It just didn't have the cut that my Marshall does. So on the third day, I removed the back and cranked the Master tone trim pot. BAM!!! There it was... That cutting & articulate but still warm & sweet Marshall sound!!! If you own the Gold Overdrive and you've never turned the master tone all the way up, you don't know what you're missing! It's not just another presence control, it truly is a MASTER tone control. If you turn it all the way left, it'll sound very muffled but all the way right and you've got that killer, early Van Halen type, Marshall cut & sizzle. You can still easily tame the highs by lowering the presence & treble controls. Rock On!
Thanks for making this video. Adding some treble back into that trim pot really woke the sound up when I run this pedal into the effects return of my DSL.
3:26 Hidden Feature. I understand the decision to make a +10min video. Footnotes and Timestamps accompanying these videos are appreciated. Y'all the real MVPs.
It does sound fantastic...if you use the internal trim pot maxxed clockwise, the gain control and bass control can be used to temper or shape the high end a little, since the mid/treble/presence pots will be rendered a little less effective.
Here is the link to the LIVE SHOW, where I first showed the PAL 800 Gold Overdrive AND the Plexi Emulator: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NQGxNpXkSQ0.html.
I'm still looking for a pedal that will give me that early Maiden sound like on the songs Invaders,Children of the Dammed,The prisoner. I'm using a Vintage/Modern amp and the only pedal that has given me that growl sound is a cheap Behringer Ultra metal but it's not quite the same close but not it. The sound is that growl similar to Iommi's except he uses a Laney which I have four of do you have Any Ideas? I also bought a Wampler Plexi/Deluxe but it really doesn't help at all. Thanks!
Great insight into the PAL800 ! 🥰 I was never diligent when it came to Homework . Thanks for the Cheatsheet ! 😊👍👍 If you can get ahold of one, you won't have to buy a Marshall . 😉 Thanks again ! 🙂 Cheers ✌️ #thetoneking #pedalpalfx #pal800v3 #knowyourguitar
was about to get a JHS AT pedal (everyone says one if the best pedals for mardhall tones/real amp sound), but this seems like a good contender. maybe the winner.
Great pedals and I have them all. BUT if you want the classic Marshall Super Lead 100 Plexi sound you just have to check out Surprise Sound Lab HVO. In a blindfold test you will not hear any difference ...then the killer is if you play the amp straight in or use the pedal instead even the 'FEEL' is the same . WHY? Because although it uses a 9v power supply it has been boosted internally to 250v. This means it has the same headroom as the tube pre in the Marshall. If you get one sit down to try it out. No one wants to pick you up off of the floor!!! LOL
I have had all 3 of these pedals that I got one at a time the second they came out. Buy just one and you will want them all. There is now a fourth the 034 Night OD it is based off of the mod that Slash has on his Marshall.
The only thing I'm wondering about is support and reliability. Flashbacks of Panama.... Any thoughts? I'd also love to hear it into a Fender and compared that way!
Their support is fantastic. Luis is always quick to respond and he's super nice. And the pedals are extremely reliable. Luis said in all their years, they've only had two units come back for repair. I also asked him, if it ever did need repair, if I could take it to my local amp repairman. He said yes... if the problem was with a "peripheral component like a resistor, capacitor, pot, jack, switch, etc" but if it was with an "active component(FETs), I should send it to them for repair and recalibration". But in all honesty, I think I'll be dead before my Gold Overdrive needs a repair. These guys make these pedals one at a time and the inside is like art work. They're clearly built with a pride and care. Plus, they sound freakin amazing. I'm actually proud to own one. Hope that helps you bro BTW, the Gold Overdrive sounds KILLER thru my Fender HRD and ALL my other amps(even my little solid state). With my HRD though, I have the best of both worlds. I've got the beautiful Fender clean and a stellar Marshall dirty. Rock On
Great job man! like always;) I have this amazing pedal and realise i Never set up this trim pot. Thanks. What's the mini switch position? Do you try it in the input of your 1000 others amps? Lol
Sounds great. Pretty excited about this pedal. Great video, except the actual amp you had louder than thru the pedal! Would have been better if you set both to the same actual loudness, then A-B'ed them! :( In any event, yes, sounds like the real amp imo.
Ive been was nting this pedal since I seen the first demo. To my ears the amp had just a tad bit more edge to it. Compared to going through the pedal. Im not sure if the amp example was louder than the pedal example. That is kinda what it sounded like. Regardless, the pedal still did a great job. Id still like to own one of those pedals eventually. Great job on the video ttk !!! Thanks and have a good one. Bryan from Chicago
