Today we examine some of the more hidden and/or lesser known features of the Boss SY-1 synth. If you have always wondered how to get tap tempo, or what it sounds like with an expression pedal then you are in the right place!
If you want us to cycle through all the sounds and not talk very much then you are probably not in the right place.

another cool thing to do is to put your tuner first in the sy1's loop and you can use it to kill your guitar signal instead of having to turn the knob

I bought a duel switch pedal for my SY-1 less than 5 minutes into this video. Thanks for the tip; it will make a good pedal better!

Good demo of some features I didn't know about. The expression pedal is very useful and on some settings it does control the tempo of the effect, so the dual footswitch for tap tempo is less necessary in that case.

Sick sick i got a pedal dual setting no use for it and the sy1 i was like how i match tempo and get pitch right glade i seen this

You can use an A/B box to switch between the expression pedal and tap-tempo switch.

i bought this pedal last year and i enjoyed playing, but after 16 months using the Boss SY-1, the pedal lost sensitivity from the top G(13 fret) and i dont know if is worth to fix it or buy a new one that can have the same problem after months of use, i dont know if i would recommend to my friends to buy it

Oooh, funny you should mention that! I recently had the same issue, the sound was just dying after about the 13th fret on the trebble strings. Then I realused I had it in bass mode rather than guitar, so I just flicked the small switch on the back and it resolved the issue.

@@noisemerchants1022 thanks for the advice ,i had checked the bass before ,and i checked again now and i switched to the left all the way,thanks for the advice, i bought the pedal last year in Guitar Center for about 180 dollars ,now is more than 200 dollars

The only thing I don’t know is it doesn’t seem to have the sound the SYB-5 Bass Synth has. I wish it did. If it does then I will buy it.

Wow, great video. So please, how could I do that ? ! OK, my chain is : Guitar - Distortion - Noise Gate pedal - Floor unit Processor. So how can I connect the Boss SY1 ? PLEASE ! !

You're using spst style switch. It doesn't work well. Use spdt or dpdt switch which stays on at resting and truns off when pressed. Boss designs their pedal controls this way so people buy their own footswitches which can change polarity. By the way everything should be momentary, latching type switches don't work either.

Yes it can! In fact I do this quite often in the two piece band I play in to thicken up the sound.
