From the movie "Hidden Figures", Katherine Johnson gives a speech about how she has to go half a mile just to use the bathroom because of the lack of coloured bathrooms in the building she works in and how she isn't be treated equally.
monokhem Sweetie first of all, you don't know shit about these people giving examples of black panther.. you are honestly disgusting. Second of all, that scene was hard to do, Taraji did a really good job with that, using her energy and her voice in full force and her face expression was really good. Maybe someone need lecturing on acting. Think before you comment on something. The scene was hard to do and thats that.
I agree. She should have been nominated.. this scene was so brilliant. Her briliiant acting which is soft in some parts, hard in others brought such a rawness of talent. Shame on the hollywood foriegn press. This film should have won it all, and taraji should be an academy award winner. Anyone who says otherwise is a moron
How did she not get at least an Oscar nom for her performance in Hidden Figures? Seriously, La La Land got EVERY DAMN NOM for doing what has been done a MILLION TIMES OVER!
Because La La Land embodied stuff that was meaningful to the people from the academy that could vote and resonated with them a lot more. Hard to co pete with that, even if Hidden Figures was more deserving if you ask me.
Nala Yonce Please, la la Land is one of the greatest movies of all time. It’s bringing back that old Hollywood feeling we all know and love. Maybe you just don’t understand it?
Because #oscarsowhite. Take Cynthia Oreivo's performance in "Harriet. " No one has ever done better. It was phenomenal!! But did she get the Oscar? No.
Kenneth Williams unfortunately, it comes down to promoting yourself and sucking up to voters to get the nomination, which Taraji didn't do (and which I respect)...to me, Taraji was wayyyy better than Emma Stone that year, but that's the name of the game...they don't care about talent, just what's in it for them...but that's okay, we all know she would have won 🙂
Looking a mess, yelling and screaming, and still, she is the most dignified person in the room. We need to be telling the truth in the face of injustice
Of cause she pity negro and everyone should be sorry to her. Looks like typical non-white person in America who wants attention how poor he is and how bad whites are. It's became national tradition. Look at me I am non-white, I am inocent victim of whites, give me your regret. No modesty. A decent person doesn't try to got attention like that. She got calm quastion. Why she was screaming? For cheap drama. Show off. Another show off was when that guy start beating that sign. He could take down the sign calmly, but noo. We should got scene where he act like he is ready to fight for "justice". Very show off and cheap.
The fact that this woman isn’t one of Hollywood’s highest paid actors is a travesty of epic proportion! The build up in this scene is simply remarkable! acting brilliance!
AND...stripping the sticker OFF the coffee pot. She shut that WHOLE room down with her response to his question. Powerful and still true to this day in many places💕💕
I've seen this scene many, many times, and I cry EVERY TIME. Racism is so dumb and sickening, and Taraji NAILS it. She is speaking for millions and millions of people, and youd have to be a monster not to feel the gravity of what she is saying.
Of course. Moreover, She should have apologize more than that. At 1:29 - She knew she was not right, so she said Excuse me. She's having regrets about what she did. That's why she Excuse herself.
All were so obsessed with La La Land and Emma Stone 2017/2018, never understood the hype; for me Hidden Figures was the best film and Taraji Henson acted soooo good.
I put a thumbs down on this movie because this movie did NASA no justice what so ever and this movie made it seem as though the entire Gemini program was dependent on that one female to get the Agina rocket into orbit, now I’m not trying to discredit her, she was amazing at her job and she was even able to calculate the re-entry coordinates of the last stage capsule, however NASA had several departments spread out around the United States and had the smartest minds in the world all working on the Gemini program and she had no major positions in NASA she was just a calculator who was there to double check the work of the Aerospace Engineers, she was even told to stop putting her name on the reports because she didn’t do any of the work all she did was check it to see if the math added up, imagine if your editor tried putting his name on the front cover of a book that you wrote and made it seam as though he helped creat it, fuck that his name goes in the back all he did was checked your spelling, If NASA was dependent on any one person, that would have to be the Aerospace engineer wernher von braun who presented the idea of using rockets to go to space to the America government and promoted it to the American public, and developed it into the Apollo missions to get the mighty Saturn V rocket to the moon NASA was in no way dependent on a calculator thats sole purpose it was in that one ☝️ department was to just double check the work of others That’s why I gave this movie a thumbs down, they made it seem as though they (needed) her and they couldn’t have done it without her, which is complete bullshit and anyone who believes that bS is completely ignorant of what really happened and the history of the Gemini space program and it’s Agina rocket and all the physicist, aerospace engineers, electrical engineers, plumbing experts, chemist, scientist, manufactures, privet and military sectors, and all the people that helped lead to the Agina rocket then later the Saturn 1b then later the most powerful rocket ever built the Saturn V rocket I’m sorry but this woman although amazing at her job was not the sole reason for NASA’s accomplishments she was however an great addition to the team , and the movie just pissed me off for all of its inaccuracies and you could just tell through out the movie there trying to push the narrative that she was so important that NASA “needed” her and couldn’t have done it without her 🙄 I hate movies like this that glorify one individual and make everyone els seem like their all incompetent at their jobs and aren’t really important and are the villains towards progress 🤦♂️ And yea I get it she is a woman of color fighting for equal rights, that’s great and all but what’s any of that have to do with the development of the Gemini program and the Agina rocket 🤷♂️
@@neophumo1744 I gave a thumbs down for hoe inaccurate this film was and how badly they depicted the engineers role in the Gemini program that lead to the Apollo missions
There are no colored bathrooms in this building, or any building outside the West Campus, which is half a mile away. Did you know that? I have to walk to Timbuktu just to relieve myself! And I can't use one of the handy bikes. Picture that, Mr. Harrisson. My uniform, skirt below the knees and my heels. And simple necklace pearls. Well, I don't own pearls. Lord knows you don't pay the colored enough to afford pearls! And I work like a dog day and night, living on coffee from a pot none of you want to touch! So, excuse me if I have to go to the restroom a few times a day.
imagine being smarter than every person in that room and get treated like a dog everyday. that happened in real life to a woman who was a genius but got treated like garbage at Nasa because of the color of her skin. Tar. P Henson should have gotten an Oscar for that movie. she is without question an A list Actor.
Aj Jimerson Actually...... Did Katherine Johnson feel the segregation of the outside world while working at NASA? No. "I didn't feel the segregation at NASA, because everybody there was doing research," says the real Katherine G. Johnson. "You had a mission and you worked on it, and it was important to you to do your job...and play bridge at lunch. I didn't feel any segregation. I knew it was there, but I didn't feel it." Even though much of the racism coming from Katherine's coworkers in the movie seems to be largely made up (in real life she claimed to be treated as a peer), the movie's depiction of state laws regarding the use of separate bathrooms, buses, etc. was very real. African-American computers had also been put in the segregated west section of the Langley campus and were dubbed the "West Computers." -WHROTV Interview
You know what not even like a dog because dogs are respected...they saw her as dirt plain old dirty dirt that will soon be wiped away....it hurts to see that people think like that....but right there she said that she is not dirt and she has had enough!
What the fuck?? Did you idiots fail to see how that fucking B-movie Get Out won best screen play? Black people are receiving plenty of awards based on their race and it's still not enough for you? Did any of you nitwits even see the _OTHER_ nominees? I bet you haven't.
Melissa Smith why are you so offended? You're right. You didn't make the film. You can't change history. So get over it. You can't change mine or anyone else's. Grow up. Stop being such a little bitch and if you want to fight about it come Georgia. I'll be more than happy to settle this with you.
I love this movie as a whole. It’s not often a performance gives me chills throughout most of the movie. Amazing cast, but I agree she should have won an Oscar just for that scene. Straight up :)
Most powerful scene in movie, to truly spotlight what segregation embodied. Same job, just as important, but cant use bathroom outside of office or drink the same coffee. Please tell me how the flag signifies unity when issue like this were part of the creation of this country.
Y'all... I'm not saying racism doesn't exist. It always will and we should work against it. But it is NOTHING like back then. Hundreds of thousands of people fought and died to end slavery. White people protested alongside black people to end the Jim Crow laws and segregation. We have now had a black President, there are black CEOs and senators, mixed marriages, black and white people sharing the same spaces with very few issues comparatively. There are shameful things in the history of every country and there will always be things we can work to improve. But to act like this scene in this movie is indicative of today in America is simply unreasonable and doesn't help address real issues that may exist.
Victor Mazzari why does it have to be Black thugs. Other races have gangs and the scene shows how bother she was with the rules. You can have your opinion but PLEASE don't bring down another race to have an opinion thank you 🤘🏾
She should have apologize more than that. At 1:29 - She knew she was not right, so she said Excuse me. She's having regrets about what she did. That's why she Excuse herself.
This movie was amazing and so important. Everyone especially young people should see it. I've lived right outside the capital of Virginia all my life, been through the public school system and never heard the story of these women, it's a shame it's not apart of the curriculum. Without this film, no one would have know the role African American women played in the space race. It makes me wonder of other stories like this that were lost in history. As a black women this scene and this movie mean such a great deal to me, I can still relate this to my life over 60 years later.
Taylor Cain this movie changed me so much and how i see things people of colour went through in history. I think too that everyone should watch it. A MUST. 💖
yes if it was true the women's lime 90% Caucasian.Geez!!! In the past if a person had like 5% black they were black , but get real. No insult but I'm 3% Spanish 10%cherokee and the r est Dutch /English. I Someone I know is 70% Cherokee 25% Apache and 3 % Athabascan with 2% African So her African side gets All the credit for any and all accomplishments?????!!!!!
This is hands down one of the best movies and some of the best performances from the actors that I have personally ever seen. The emotion and the realism of how things were in that time is portrayed beautifully and incredibly. This is a move nobody will ever forget.
yeah because everyone has dealt with having to go to a colored bathroom all the way in another building because they weren't allowed to use the whites only bathroom. Dont minimalize the experiences of Black Americans to the same experiences of everyone else.
It makes me want to cry thinking about what fellow POC went through during these times and still go through today. All in all, every human life should be treated well and with love.
Ap0k4lypsV, these links are disgusting. I hope you feel ashamed of yourself for spreading false information and degrading black people. Acknowledge your white privilege and educate yourself.
@@Plethorality yeah? I'm white and was in trinidad and tobago for a while. Couldn't even get service in some restaurants and shops. Racism exists everywhere and in every race.
@@jenster29 that's weird, go to any other country like Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico etc and white people basically get treated like royalty
My eyes fill with tears every single time I see this scene, I feel her pain, her frustration and her soul, It hurts me to know this happened not long ago 😢🙏🏽
I really loved this scene. It was a shock she wasn't nominated for an Oscar for her incredible performance in this film. She's such an underrated actress
Victor Mazzari It’s not a lie, this is what used to happen in the US. Also, you can’t say “if I was black” because you’re NOT black so you can’t say anything.
Ooh my I love this scene, she's incredible, that broken voice is priceless. I watched this film in the cinema and I was petrified with this part, so much desesperation, this actress made an amazing job!
I have watched this scene over a hundred times, the moment she starts raising her voice saying: "And I work like a DOG, DAY AND NIGHT.." I absolutely lose it....I can never watch this scene without shedding tears
Still in denial...comments reflect that from some people. Scenes like this one are meant to invite a sence of understanding and I still read comments like you did not go through slavery. You reap the benefits of yesterday's struggles. LOL. You in the mean time still can't see me past the color of my skin. If it doesn't apply to you is there any reason to be upset by this comment?
Fergil The Fox but ask yourself why is it everyone is but you aren’t seeing these comments because I definitely just saw two. When white people want to ignore their history this is what they say to justify it.
I havent seen any either lol only comments I see are praising her acting in this scene and saying she shouldve won an oscar for this scene alone... I havent read not 1 hateful comment.. tbh the only hateful comments I have seen was kinda towards white people which is ironic
this scene brings me to tears when she says & I work like a DOG a day & nite living off of coffee from a pot none of you want to touch! The TRUTH shut all of them up!
I remember watching this in class one day and the whole class was being noisy as hell not paying attending. But everyone quieted down during this scene
People today just don't understand what those of that time had to live through. They have the audacity to criticize and what they would have done, all the while enjoying the fruits of that labor they detest.
Well Hamda Hussein, they are still into this sh#it!But who cares ? Reshuffle , it is ending time bro!And ALL of us are losers.Time for a new deck as usual!
Abu Nadrah reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said during the middle of the day at the end of the pilgrimage, “O people, your Lord is one and your father Adam is one. There is no favor of an Arab over a foreigner, nor a foreigner over an Arab, and neither white skin over black skin, nor black skin over white skin, except by righteousness. Have I not delivered the message?” They said, “The Messenger of Allah has delivered the message.”
One of the best scenes was when she was presented a pearl necklace engagement gift. Well deserved. If it was a White man who was in her shoes. Will surely benefit more. Unfair society.
She should have apologize more than that. At 1:29 - She knew she was not right, so she said Excuse me. She's having regrets about what she did. That's why she Excuse herself.
Regardless of the "many other people" that could've played this role, Taraji P. Henson did her thing with this role; just giving some credit where it's due 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😎
This was the last movie my friend and I went to see before she died. I remember thinking "what is she doing?" as she was running in the rain. My friend who was black knew exactly what was happening as it was happening. Both of us born in 1954. She was from Alabama and I am from Georgia. I remember colored toilets and water fountains but it didn't affect me like it did her. I learned a lot about the black culture from her because she talked frankly and didn't wear her feelings on her sleeves. She was an awesome person and every time I see clips from this movie I think of her.
When I saw in old movies the white/colored drinking fountains I thought that was a needless expense. But this was bad. And I am disappointed this clip doesn't have the followup scene of big boss taking sledgehammer to sign, as it should be. Brown vs. Board of Education was settled correctly; separate but equal is not a thing that exists in the real world.
According to herself she never experienced segregation at NASA. That scene was 100% pure fiction. NASA had been desegregated years before she got her Job.
Ryan you need to understand the frustration because this isn't a scene to us. This is life, and it goes on today. There are places in the USA today that are still this way. Black people are getting killed because they are unarmed and poor.
