This is one of best documentaries I’ve ever watch. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’m recovering from cancer radiation treatments and this sure helped me forget my trouble

This should be mandatory viewing for junior and senior high students. I smiled when I saw my college professor Kayoko Wakita. Always loved and enjoyed her lectures regarding Manzanar and her experiences during that awful time. I vow to never let this travesty die. My dream is to make a pilgrimage to Manzanar and other internment camps in honor of those incarcerated.

Thanks for your comments, Steve. Kayoko still lives in LA, is about 95 or 96 now, and I still learn a lot from her every time we talk on the phone. I think the lesson to be learned from the camps is to keep participating in our democracy even if just by voting. As we have seen, it's a delicate thing that can be taken away from us if we are not aware and participate.

This documentary is incredibly interesting with a treasure trove of information. I have been interested in the Japanese culture since the early 1980s. I am always amazed at the resiliency of the Japanese people and they are truly the best artisans in the world. And they excel in every discipline imaginable. Most of my house is filled with Japanese cultural items that I enjoy every day. I'm glad our countries were able to work out our differences and we have become good allies. I'm so glad I discovered this documentary. I wish you all continued good health and happiness.

La culture japonaise est noble . La musique Koto est une vraie thérapie contre le stress et l'anxiété. 😊

I'm amazed at all the wonderful pictures of the different camps and different entertainments! I've looked at camp photos for a long time and never saw those before. Really great! Thanks, Shirley!

Thank you for your comment, Terry. Every camp had a different personality and feel. They all looked alike with the barracks, guard towers, mess halls, etc., but the people had different personalities which made up the particular feelings within the camps. They were like small towns with an average of 10,000 or so in each, and not all knew what the others were doing as we learned from gathering these interviews. But all were trying to find a way to survive, to keep being useful and occupied in helpful ways.

@@skmkoto My late wife was born in Tule Lake and my sister-in-law married the son of Tule Lake's camp photographer. We visited several camps in our travels (Hart Mtn., Manzanar and Tule Lake). I think the ones we saw shared the same dismal, desert-like environment where almost no one would want to live.

@@terrydoyle1141 These camps were located in very dismal areas far from most towns, and became there own thriving town with approx. 10,000 per camp. But as you found, your wife was born there, and people met there and got married. Life continued somehow which showed the strength and resiliency of the people. It's amazing to me how they survived in these deserts and swamp areas.

I’m so sorry you had to go to internment camps. My mother told me she went to high school one day and all the Japanese were gone and she was freaked out and scared for them. This was in Seattle.

I didn't go to camp because I wasn't born yet, but my mom, grandparents and aunt were put into camps Topaz, Utah and Tule Lake, CA. I can't imagine how an entire race of people were imprisoned in the U.S., including about 2/3 who were born in America...

Rest in Peace Yukie. She passed away 12-27-23 peacefully in her sleep. We were her final caregivers. She was a wonderful lady who was powerful inside and out.

Yuki is an amazing woman, though she would never say that about herself. Even though she was not a credentialed dance teacher, she helped many through her dance, especially during WWII at Amache Camp in Colorado.
