Kubrick is, in my opinion, the best director of all time. His movies are laced with layers and layers of hidden meaning. No wonder he always took forever to make a new movie, he put his time and effort into each scene. It's truly incredible, a major contrast from 90% of movies that are released these days.

The Hotel cant really be the devil because Jack was crazy from the very beginning.. Even in the car drive to the hotel. You can see him sitting slightly towards the edge of the table instead of in the middle when he is writing, which could be seen as symbolism for him being kinda "off". This is not the hotels fault tho, he could have sat in the middle if he wanted to. What im trying to say is that the hotel allows Jack to become crazy, but doesnt force him to. In the end it was inside of Jack all along.

That was my main beef with the movie. Book Jack was a basically decent man who loved his wife and son and struggled against the Overlook until it took him over. Movie Jack is obviously crazy in the first scene, so there's no character development.

You didn't discuss the impossible Architecture of the hotel! If you follow the perspective shots during the film and what the characters say about the hotel layout, you discover hallways, doors, and windows which are either too long, too short or should not be there, because it is physically impossible in 3 dimensional space.

The outside shot of the Hotel is not the same location in which they filmed inside, except for small room scenes and the entrance/exit scenes. I don't believe this has any sort of significance other than they needed a different location to film the hallways and the ballroom/foyers/lounge room.

Its not too crazy to figure out that the time period that Spirited away is set in also relates to the story. its actually a clever movie, you just wouldn't know it unless you looked for it.

+Kenneth... In a nutshell- John "Jack" Torrance, the fictitious writer in "The Shining" is an allegoric representation of Steven King, while on a working-vacation, and going through the processes of: 1) Coming up with an idea for a novel. 2) Rejecting ideas. 3) Writer's block. 4) Being interrupted driving him crazy. 5) Having a "eureka" moment. 6) Writing about the horror of writer's block for a writer in the story of The Shining, (a story within a story) and taking the "reader" on the rollercoaster ride with him, as seen through King's eyes, but as the reader. Kubrick did the same thing, (a movie inside a movie) but places the viewer of the movie of the real "writer Jack" as the fake movie "killer Jack" into the film itself, but with different methods. Why? Because King's story, (spirits that need steam, hence the boiler) is a paper story, not a celluloid one. In the movie at its climactic end, "killer Jack's" soul, (along with all the other souls in The Overlook) are condemned to this "hell" and to keep reliving their hell, and the reason why we see Jack is in the July 4th, 1921 picture in the end; while in the (so called) real-life anti-climactic, but unseen movie end... the "writer Jack" (Steven King) went home and lived happily ever after. (OR DID HE???!!! DUN DUNT DUN!!!) The story "Misery" is a similar attempt by King to catch the "lightening in a bottle" of The Shining... at least he ripped-off (mostly) himself. (It was a little pay-back to Kubrick too.) So, the movie we saw, (The Shining) is actually the story Jack wrote.

@MarkLewis... 3 года назад
@@shaheersk721 I've been trying to explain this to people (no joke) since the late 80's! And there are so many clues in the movie if you ignore all the red herrings. The impossible office window, Danny's impossible big-wheel ride, unplugged TV working, Jack at the maze, etc... We the audience are in Jack (the writer's) mind for most of the movie, seeing his script/novel unfold! That and how 2001 is a juxtaposition of Genesis and Evolution. Adam and Eve apes, Cain killing Abel after the apes touching the monolith. The first monolith is the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and the second monolith is the tree of everlasting life. I did a YT video (no body watched, lol) that explains it all. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OAgPcf-n8cg.html

I couldn't agree more. A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly are flawless pictures in their own way. A Fistful of Dollars - a complete reinvention of the genre. For a Few Dollars More - an excellent exercise of style and brilliant play of Western cliches. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly - the greatest Western (and adventure story) ever put to film and quite possibly has the most electrifying climax ever. Honestly I have a dvd traveling case (that can only hold 24 films) I take everywhere I go and those films are in it. They're that great! I hope they do take your request in serious consideration.

But I do have some key questions...1) Is the blood gushing from all over the hall allergy-free so the kids will be alright? 2) Is that recycled water? 3) Does the hotel have an appropriate water waste treatment? 4) Is Jack going to fix and replace the door, the radio wiring and the other damages? 5) Were the costumes pet-friendly costumes made of synthetic fiber or an evil asshole has used real animal fur? 6) Was the ice-cream gluten free? 7) Will Jack burial expenses going to be paid by the Overlook Hotel management or his family will have to file for it with the Crazy and Creepy Hotel Janitors' Association?

Na....the whole movie was Kubricks confession about the fake moon landing he was directing/filming for NASA...but you knew that already, right :P
@ballsrgrossnugly
@ballsrgrossnugly 9 лет назад
Terrorkekx I saw that docco pop up on Netflix, watched it half asleep, until the guy narrating said: "Whether or not we went to the moon, what is certain is that the moon landing footage was shot in a sound stage by Kubrick for the U.S. Government." Then I woke the fuck up and turned that bullshit off. How the fuck did this guy get money to take a conspiracy theory which has been thoroughly disproved, and just spout his crap as the facts??? Fuckin crazies...

I know. It's part of why his wife was freaking out. Like, "Nooooooo, that's not even your name! Is that your real name and you only tell me this after we got married and raised a child?! And do it by barging into the bathroom?! What if i was in the shower?" She was understandably upset.

Dear Garyx, Love your scintillating otherworldly wit! Speaking of subtly disturbing devil-like figures would be fantastic if you could analyse Silence of the lambs. Looking forward to more uploads, and those alluring eyebrows. Appreciate your apt analysis of the social milieu evident in each film; none arises in vacuum after all. All the best xx

LOL ok, don’t know how I’ve never seen your content- Loved this! I’m positive you know just “how many” damn theories there are about this film (another reason I love this film) But this was a pretty fun take. Gotta see more of your vids, subbed 👍 (Truly do love this idea of Jack signing a “Faust” type contract. Def overlaps w/Jack’s picture in the end, posing w/a well known “satanic” pose & as if “his soul was captured”. One of so many theories, to reiterate, but very cool vid)

At 5.11 you are mistaken. The devil doesnt reside in Georgia... . He went down to Georgia cause he was lookin for a soul to steal. He was in a bind cause he was way behind... and willing to make a deal. There now... you stand corrected.

Funny how everyone claims the Exorcist is soooo scary but Kubrick's Shining isn't that scary at all. I feel the exact opposite. The Shining really creeps me out while the Exorcist never really scared me that much. Anyone else feel the same...?
