Breaking down the sixth and final episode, titled "Electricity", of the new Don't Hug Me I'm Scared TV Show, revealing the true identity of Leslie, what is inside the Yellow Guy's book and more, from the show exclusively airing on Channel 4 based on the hit web series brought to us by Becky Joan and Joe Pelling.
Don't Hug Me I'm Scared is a British surreal horror series created by Becky Sloan and Joseph Pelling. The original web series consists of six episodes, released from 29 July 2011 to 19 June 2016 through the artists' website, RU-vid, and Vimeo. The series combines segments in live action, puppetry, traditional animation, flash animation, clay animation, and computer animation.
Each episode starts like a typical children's series, consisting of anthropomorphic puppets akin to those featured in Sesame Street and other popular children's television programmes. The series parodies and satirizes these TV programmes by contrasting this childlike, colourful environment and its inhabitants against disturbing themes; each episode features a surreal plot twist in the climax, including psychedelic content and imagery involving graphic violence, dark humour and existential and psychological horror. The six episodes explore and discuss the subjects of creativity, time, love, technology, diet, and dreams.
In 2020, it was announced that Don't Hug Me I'm Scared will be airing on Channel 4 as a television series on 23 September 2022.

The web-series gave Red Guy the role of the one trying to break them free from the endless cycle while Yellow Guy got that rule in the first season of the TV series. I think for a literal 'rule of three' we could see Duck given the role in a future installment whatever that may take place in. Duck has always been the most skeptical, thinking of himself as an intellectual despite not knowing much more than the others; it would make sense if eventually he began to push a bit more past the boundaries of the world.

I just noticed that the crossword contains "gravel", "aspic", and "Roy". It very much feels like this series takes place in a different, darker world. Red Guy's awakening in the original felt like something out of Persona 4 or 5 - he goes on this supernatural journey of self-discovery, confronts the entity that's trying to control people through these twisted lessons, and makes the world inside the screen better. Just like a Persona team would. Here, Yellow Guy gains no power. The higher reality he glimpses is that he's a puppet based on a dead child. It reminds me of the game OFF, and he's a reanimated Hugo. Another thing: Red Guy escapes the boring office world through the power of creativity, something Yellow Guy was always good at. Yellow Guy's batteries give him intelligence, which otherwise seemed to be mainly Duck Guy's thing. In order for Duck Guy to ascend to... something in S3E6, he might have to become more like Red Guy. But the reality he finds will be even darker than Lesley's dollhouse.

freaking phenomenal breakdown. you summed everything up pretty well. it's funny how red and duck seem to always have this itch to know what's really going on, while yellow guy just wants familiarity and routine. yet yellow guy is the one who managed to basically transcend puppet world and when he tried to help out his friends learn the truth red and duck just wanted things back to the way they were.
@theduffinman

I feel like it's their itch to find answers that blinds them to the answers that they seek. When you are too busy looking around for something you tend to loose sight of the information that is right in front of you. Where Yellow Guy is more likely to live in the moment. In living in the moment you don't get distracted by the thoughts and ideas of others. Instead you learn about the world through the world itself if that makes sense. You would be more open to accepting things and moving past them rather than denying everything and being stuck trying to solve the problem to question 1 while the world is already asking you what you think about question number 5.

i really like this theory because it can be applied to other characters. what i mean is that if Yellow Guy is a kid who died and is living in hell, then what if that was true for Red Guy and Duck? what if on June 19, all three of them died and live out their own versions of this puppet limbo? they all experience different stories in their own journey. Yellow Guy's story ends in the message of him shredding the truth and continues to live in the madness. Red Guy thinks he pulls the plug on his suffering, but in the end of the web series, he never escaped and everything just looks different. the day only turns to June 20th once either of them learn the truth and accepts their agony, whether its nihilistic futile acceptance or blissful ignorance my hope is that in a future season, we'll see Duck's tragic story and how he will accept the truth. in the series he does mention being a father figure and lots of motifs of him being a bad friend or neglectful to a fault. maybe that will be the theme of the next season (fingers crossed!)

I just realised the teachers actually play an important role (except lore) If you dig deep into the things they are teaching them are things to get them out of the house away from the horrors but the transport guy is stopped by someone when teaching them, as we see is in the same area each time and feels "dizzy" when helping them escape, this isn't just him though. Like for example: The suit case guy getting them jobs, the coffin getting them outside for the funeral + Yellow Guy digging Duck back up and more (I'm not sure about the friendship one though because it's just Yellow Guy's brain and not outside. More Lore: If you haven't noticed already, in the youtube webseries you will see that it's kind of like growing up, like the web series is general things for kids, creativity, time, love, computers, food and dreams. As the show is more like an adults side when they grow up, getting a job, understanding that you will die, bonding more with family, getting more friends and the best one that proves this is transport as they are literally driving vehicles and learning why electricity is important. (Also the reason I didn't say jobs as a way to back this up is you can get a job at a pretty young age)

@demifolk8940

I do think transport is meant literally but its also figuratively, its like moving from one stage of your life to the next. Leslies name is also on the car they’re driving in the license plate. They have no real destination and there was a general sense of unease in their trip. And it showed the comedic complications of driving while also drawing attention to how travel can also be representative of change. Thats why the suddenly appeared in the real world. As for the job thing, yea you can but the job they showed was specifically an adults job in a company setting. A job for an adult is typically completely different when you’re a kid. Most kids do it for money, and if they’re having to pay bills they’re not exactly living their teen years as they want. You usually grow up too quick or something. It seems the last 2 episodes arent really about the subject matter, transportation and electricity are played around with in some way but theres this general unease beneath it. The irony of the show is that the first 4 episodes deal with generally complicated themes like jobs, death, family, friends. These are like epochs of living an adult life, the things you think about the most and worry about the most. But the final 2 are also things you worry about, but are thematically completely different from the the beginning lessons. Despite that, the transport and electricity episodes are the most complicated and seemingly deepest episodes of the season. I personally think its done as a joke but there may be some extra meaning there as well. I think the development of the narrative was done seriously, but this particular formatting was done as a haha joke.

i think that the stairs in lesley's room are meant to represent the real life creators of this show, and that lesley is just like the other puppets just telling a story but as far as the actual world of the show's concerned, i think that lesley is meant to be the one behind all of this. it fits too well with the idea that she's a mother in grief trying to hold on to her memories of her son, and i can't really think of anything above her that would feel satisfying and make sense

Another thing I like to take away from this is about how "true enlightenment" could be impossible to reach and the very nature of it may be absurd. We are shown multiple levels, each one believing of being more enlightened, and even on the last one there are stairs possibly leading to higher ones. And at the end we see the book Lesley gave to Yellow Guy containing the truth being shredded

Yellow guy didn’t exactly choose to reject the true nature of his world, even if Leslie gave him the actual truth and not just complexly written text that isn’t necessarily correlated to truth, he lost awareness of what it was supposed to be when his batteries was taken. He didn’t choose to reject the information, all versions of the other characters consider themselves as pursuing truth. It’s not the truth that is shredded, it’s just the shadow it marked on a book. You can’t change the sun, you can just hide it’s light. (again, if it actually were the truth, something that isn’t guaranteed)

i'm only 1:24 minutes into this, but i can already predict that Lesley mentioned that she keeps "back ups." so when Yellow Guy shredded the book, she might have back ups of that said book. and since she is already known to be a "higher power" to the main puppets, she would've seen the shredded book coming. so season 2 (hopefully there will be one) will show Lesley providing another copy of the book, giving the puppets a chance to see what's inside.

Well it very much resembles a British pathe films mainly in the 60s promoting one of the many 'new towns' built in England around that time many in SE England to ease housing shortage problems in London. Planned towns with a planned size and population were built with all the infrastructure and houses ready. In Britain and England towns villages etc usually evolve and grow over centuries . now this is my take on DHMISs "Story" Leslie is a metaphor for the entire show DHMIS, a show that never answers questions and only gives clues to a greater story (which directly mimics Leslies behavior). When the good ol‘ LesLes hands over the book of answers to nerd yellow we see runes which to us is a bunch of nonsense. Maybe thats that? Maybe the answers are just a bunch of nonsense that doesn’t add up my reasoning behind this ist that Leslie seems to be incapable of answering so she might not be able to write a book of answers if there even are any. When stupo and ugli Yellow Guy shreds the answers that further confirms my suspicions that there ARE no answers. ALSO before the TV series DHMIS creator asked if any theories where true which they responded with "they are all true" which further proves my statement of no real answers. So it concludes with the creators gave us a show (represented by Leslie) that brings no answers just a bunch of clues and you can use those clues to make an answer and that answer will be true no matter what since it‘s aaaalll just a bunch of bullcrap clues. He is talking about the other floors... but I do think it's interesting he says there's a windy middle one. He was shown leaving Lesley's room before the stairs appeared, so there's no reason for him to mention the windy one being in the middle. Does this mean he has seen those stairs before?

I wouldn’t be surprised if duck isn’t stain and is the original one, because at the end of every episode they always end back at home, everything resets and they have stated that multiple times they don’t remember the teachers from other episode’s

I have a theory that they are all robots except for red guy, duck is a robot that tends to die a lot, yellow is a replacement for Leslie's son, how they auto tune a lot and get hurt a lot, and even bleed, but yellow never fully dies, is just injured, so he's repaired, duck is always replaced, and red is like a handler, that's why his costume is basic, and he is a bit different, not to mention seen without the red's mask on briefly and why he tries to escape. He's a handler for yellow, to make sure he's not killed, yellow has been injured but not fully killed, and is possible a different handler a couple of times, and Leslie does yell at yellow that he's not her son, just kidding, and even earlier she says he's her favorite, roy is like Leslie's avatar, hence why he's around, and direct at times, and is even yellow's only family member. And when he's seen in the back area with the other puppets or bots, he's not dead with x's on his eyes, but more like switched off, and also not to mention the theme of replacing a loved one and death are used in this show at least more than once, So in conclusion, it's a simulation or play kind of, to teach the robot replacement yellow, that's why there's lessions, he's seen as a child, and he has a handler to make sure he's not killed, but also for when he gets bigger and older, there's not another yellow but another red and duck, yellow is the main focus, and the reason red is no longer a handler in the bigger rooms, is because at that point, yellow would be smart enough to not get himself killed, and there's a level after Leslie is for yellow to learn the whole truth, and even Leslie could be a robot of the former real Leslie, and this also explains why yellow has batteries and blood and feelings and a brain.

After watching this episode, i wholeheartedly believe the show itself represents Leslie's descent into madness after the death of her son David. Episode 2 - The Red Guy's license mentioned him eventually drowning, which represents how the original David had died. Episode 2 - The Duck-Crow-Thing dies and gets replaced, which represents Leslie attempting to replace David. Episode 3 - The twins and their family try to find a suitable replacement for their missing mother. This represents Leslie finding a suitable replacement for David, whether it is done by adoption or kidnapping. Episode 1 - The Duck gets brainwashed after not fitting in with the workplace. This represents Leslie brainwashing her replacement David to act more like the original. Episode 5 - The Red Guy gets sick of staying in the same house every day and attempts to escape. This represents one of the replacement Davids running away after realizing the horrible truth. Episode 4 - The Duck stabs a needle through the Yellow Guy's ear to remove the -worm- eagle in his brain. This represents one of Leslie's methods of making one of her replacement Davids behave like the original, by tricking him into thinking there's a worm in his brain, leading to him getting a lobotomy. Episode 6 - The Yellow Guy becomes a genius and was given a book containing forbidden knowledge, and then proceeds to shred the book after he becomes dumb again. This represents one of the replacement Davids snapping out of their brainwashing and realizing the horrible truth, which then leads to Leslie killing him the same way the original died, by drowning.

So, I don't know if this makes sense but listen to me. Unlike other theorists, I don't think that the top floor of the house has the companies that finance the show or are interested in making money with it. It is interesting the theory that with each successive floor there is still one higher and that the relationship of dependence continues but I have another possibility in mind. Knowing that David is the name of the yellow guy and that he is leslie's son, it could be that on the top floor there is the one who has so far moved behind the walls of the house and the world of dhmis. Roy, that is the real Roy, the father of the yellow guy in flesh and blood of which leslie has created a puppet. This would explain why roy is so quiet and cruel in educating the yellow guy, it could be the same extremely resolute character he took on in real life after David's death. David died because his parents did not have enough control over his actions and he was not afraid enough of his surroundings to be able to control his actions. In short, he was a free child who, as the only thing, wanted to have fun without thinking too much about the cruelty of the world. So if leslie's desire is to continue to bring the memory of her son to life through the yellow guy's puppet, educating him through fear as they should have done from the beginning and at the same time inflicting on him all the pain that the two parents had to endure because of them and his irresponsibility, the real Roy did not accept the death of his son and retired to the top floor of the house, angry and silent just like his puppet.

This last episode has some heavy gnostic themes within it For anyone who doesn’t know what Gnosticism is it’s a belief that there’s a lesser god called a demiurge that’s preventing us from achieving true spiritual enlightenment yet there’s the real god who wants to help us break free from the chains of the demiurge and assist us in achieving our spiritual goals. The brief shot of the 4th staircase going further upstairs can heavily imply that Lesley is the demiurge and DHMIS’s actual creators Becky and Joe being the real god wanting yellow guy (David) to break free and understand the truth. But alas people sometimes can’t handle the truth and yellow guy destroys the “truth” given to him by Lesley. That’s my theory on the ending to the episode.

If we believe in the theory that Yellow Guy is a puppet made to symbolize her dead child like the video says, Roy might just be the distorted view she has of her (most likely ex) husband. His products are not here. He looked like lose his power? At the originals he was on background like top of the wall at set. He touched Red Guy with his long arm(helping unplug?? or something sinister) At the TV show he pushed Yellow Guy. How much control he has. Is he evil or bad father. Who was driving that car, his father or mother or someone else? And most importantly did Tony the clock guilty of nepostism. Is he the father of Time Child?
