South Central Indiana is world famous for its limestone. Ahead in our Hidden Places series we take you to a quarry that is preserved just like it was during the peak of limestone production in the 1920s.
There is a lesser known cyclist movie set in Indiana. There are some guys on a racing team formed from blue collar families. The name they adopted for the team was "Cutters".
The water in the pit looks unsafe to swim in. I guess after a few beers and in the dark would be the best time for a swim :/ Make sure to bring your dog too!!
It’s absolutely fine to swim in that water. It’s really the best! The water is soft because of the limestone but it’s also cool, refreshing clear water. It’s too deep to touch the bottom. You have to jump off a rock to get in and walk on the submerged stones to get out of the water. It’s not for the faint of heart or poor swimmers but it’s safe. There are definitely a few quarries that aren’t safe for swimming, but many are okay as long as people don’t do stupid things.
