I own 9 longswords: real, smith-made proper ones. They average about 2.3lbs. Longswords are actually quite fast and agile weapons. So, in the forgotten realms theyve forgotten how to work metal, apparently. Jesus. 5x the weight.

@@jonathanwells223 Clearly you haven't used one of those Bows yet. They're like a Longbow on Steroids in the hands of a Lv 20 Fighter under the effect of Haste, Action Surge, and Great Weapon Master Feat combined. There's a reason why it's Legendary. A well made Bow build is capable of doing obscene amounts of Damage to their enemies, and if you add on that Bow, they'll be more OP than a Tabaxi Monk with 3 Lvls of Rogue (Open Palm & Assassin archetypes, respectively).

Yeah, D&D lore has a lot of those weird misunderstandings of how nature works, like how spider cannibalism is supposedly unnatural and evil, and how elves are guardians of nature yet they don't like their forests with rot or wildfires. Elves should just own up to the selfishness of civilization and be okay with it.

Wait a minute don't the drow have their own version of high Magic based on the sacrifice of sentient creatures?
@BlueNEXUSGaming
@BlueNEXUSGaming 4 года назад
That's called Blood Magic, and yes, they do. Specifically they're profaning the Spark of The Seed of Life (the thing that created the Prime Material Plane, and also a corrupted one created The Abyss) that resides within every Sentient Creature, and twisting it for their own personal use. However the Gods locked away the ability to access such power in order to prevent such abuse, thus it takes far more sentient life to accomplish their goals, as they're only capable of harvesting less than 1% of the power contained within. 100% of such power can only be obtained from a willing Soul. One willing to give their lives in order to create the effect. The more Pure and Innocent the Soul, usually the younger ones, the more powerful the result. This is one of the unquantifiable variables that one is incapable of preparing for in the preparation for a Mythal, as their purity is directly linked to the power of the casting. Most High Elves would go through that Purification Spell he mentioned last just before they began the Casting to create the Mythal, in order to purify their souls as much as they could, however such a thing would take time that wasn't always available, and as a result, the weaker Mythals likely skipped the Purification. The Drow Blood Magic however is not entirely unlike the Ritual of bathing in Dragon Blood, or the Ritual of the Yuan-Ti, as they are all abusing the same thing, the Spark of The Seed of Life. A Yuan-Ti Abomination for example uses at least 1,100 Sparks to become a Yuan-Ti Abomination, probably more, as I'm likely forgetting to account for a few steps in the process, but it's basically a factor of 10, just like the more powerful Lichdom Rituals. The strongest of the Lichdom Rituals takes billions of Sparks to complete (think Fullmetal Alchemist creating a Philosophers' Stone out of the entirety of the country of Ishval scale, that's roughly the 3rd or 2nd biggest Ritual). For comparison, if they are willing participants, and are pure of heart, the same effect can be achieved using only a few thousand willing Souls, freely given. Now, before you go getting ideas on using the Souls of the Dead, I should point out that the Spark is separated from the person when they die, hence why so many of these effects will usually kill the Caster, because it's usually the only way to tap into the power of the Spark. Additionally, what makes it that much more profane is that performing such acts will prevent reincarnation in most cases, unless precautions are taken to preserve the Soul, such as with the casting of a Mythal. As mentioned before however, such things take extra time, time that wasn't always available. For example, the Anti-Dragon barrier of Dragonreach lacked both Purification and Soul Preservation. The effect was subsequently noticably weakened, and the Caster died, permanently, eternally. Their Soul was consumed by the casting in order to speed up the process, and protect the Town. They will not reincarnate, despite being an Elf. They will not be found anywhere in the afterlife either. Once that Mythal dies, they are permanently Dead in both Body and Spirit. Given proper preparation, and proper precautions, they could have made the Mythal far stronger, especially if they were more Pure of Heart than a Battlemage Veteran who was watching his countrymen getting massacred after serving in a War. He was at peace when he died, knowing that his life was given to allow so many others to live. He's also not alone in there, as that Mythal has been Properly reinforced multiple times (albeit not with the best candidates, usually Adventurers that tried to stop someone from trying to destroy the Mythal and failed to prevent significant damage to it).

Rituals of Complement are an excellent narrative tool. I had my party conduct one to wield the power of an ancient dragon who was in their twilight and wanted to pass it on. She chose the party, who impressed her with their inquisition into the death of her mate centuries ago, as opposed to her offspring, in whom she saw far too much greed and lust for power. I tailored each part of the ritual to the strong suits of the characters. The rogue was a high-wisdom character that was very interesting philosophically and ended up being the most mentally stable of the group, so his role was to serve as a kind of psychic pillar that the others could lean on while the ritual took place. The dragonborn barbarian was of draconic lineage, so his blood served as the bridge between dragon and mankind (everyone else in the party was human or half-elf). The artificer had to build a housing artifact for the dragon's power, as their bodies weren't capable of containing all of it even between the six of them. Time was of the essence, however, as the artifact would take decades of work and study to build and the dragon needed to be alive to give her power over willingly. So the chronurgy wizard had to wield some of the dragon's power to create a time stasis for the artificer to be able to do the work. The paladin had a few roles; his blade would be reworked into the artifact. He had spent the campaign fighting evil and doing good with his blade, so this would serve as a psychic imprint on the artifact that would give it some semblance of sentience, to avoid it being misused. He was also required to, at the very end of the ritual, plunge the blade into the dragon, forever staining his hands with the blood of a creature held to be divine by his church (he was Oath of Ancients and the dragon lorded over the forest where his order was situated.) Finally, the wildfire druid had to sacrifice his wildfire spirit to reforge the paladin's blade, channel the massive amount of magic at work, and ultimately become the soul of the artifact, a spirit which would burn down the dragon dynasty and usher in the age of mankind's stewardship of the world. I was pretty happy with how it went, and my players still talk about it long after the campaign ended.

Great! Thanks a lot! I think that creating HighMoor is of course a big thing, but not the biggest ones. If You wanted to turn on the appetites, You should mentioned rather Dracorage Mythal, or First Sundering (ok You mentioned Banishment of the Dhearow's, which was done by the elves also). Why those: - Think about how the Elves rescued Toril from the Dragons chains over the 26 000 years ago before standing stone? They created a mythal with a range over the whole planet! Dracorage Mythal! It binds the view of the King Killer Star with the rage of dragons, turning them into non intelligent beasts for the time when the comet is seeing (usually couple of weeks). And this is how Elves destroyed Dragons empires and their hegemony over the Toril. Beat this! - Ok First Sundering a.k. creating Evermeet was also apocalyptic event in the range of the whole planet, even planes (Evermeet is combined of parts: Aryvandor, Feywind, Toril). Damn, I can't wait next episode! I'm waiting for it for 8 episodes now...

@@Stuugie. at least 6lbs is within the range of real greatswords which went up to 8 (mind you, I'm talking _true_ greatswords designed for wading into pike blocks, not simply 2-handed swords) Outside of a handful of non-sword exceptions, the 5ed weights lean a little high of the average, but are mostly realistic. There are other problems (like how it doesn't account for weapons being specifically designed to deal with armor and my personal pet peave about spears that you can wield in 1 hand should be finesse weapons when wielded in 2), but they seem to have mostly done well on the weight department.

I ended up writing up the lore and personality and appearance of a character I'd love to play if I ever had the chance to play a proper RP-focused D&D campaign with friends, a neutral good Drow noble that escaped from the Underdark and sought a way to reconnect with his ancestors and go to Arvandor when he died. The idea of a Drow so sympathetic to the plight caused by his people and the resentment and desperation and sadness is all so angsty that I can already taste the tears of if I ever got the chance to roleplay him begging the high mages after a long journey to aid him in becoming something other than a Drow.

Like how they poop? I'm kidding?? I'm totally kidding. The first character I made was an Eladrin Elf Cleric/Sorceror multiclass. My DM was very cool with me. Basically, depending on the season, or environment, she would shift her appearance and color scheme, her very personality changed depending on where the party was... ...alas she died during the final fight. I told everyone not to worry because I had a speech prepared. (I didn't.) She died with love in her heart. Also her death gave the party advantage on all their roles. I think the DM saw a heroic sacrifice thing, or whathaveyou. The BB wasn't a dragon, or a lich, or a cocky vampire, but a nasty little drow queen. That was so much fun. It was a local game in my city. It actually went on for 3 months. My friend played a Druid/Ranger. She is incredibly clever.

I find it so weird to see D&D treating the death of trees & molds as evil things! an old tall tree has to fall, so younger saplings can receive direct sunlight & grow. the fallen old tree will be decomposed by fungi, thus returning all those nutrients to the forest. another example is the ugly & stinking mangrove, which is one of the most important biomes, as it makes the transition from land & rivers to the sea, protecting each from the greater powers of the other environment.
@BertoxolusThePuzzled
@BertoxolusThePuzzled 4 года назад
I think the entire point of the ritual is to bypass that process, providing everything the plants need magically instead of introducing the potential dangers of rot and fungi for much needed resources. Rot and fungi ARE ruled over by an Evil demoness in 5E after all.

@@BertoxolusThePuzzled that's exactly my issue: mold & ugly places are very important to nature, but have been treated as evil by D&D (thus are ruled by evil gods & demons), maybe because they don't look or smell nice

Rituals seem so interesting I wonder how hard it would be to be a character that focuses on doing as many rituals as possible. The character would not care so much about what the ritual does as long as it does not stop the character from doing more rituals. On a side note, The background music reminds me of the angry grandpa prank video with the shadow people.

21:20 If an prommise between more than 2 people, represented by an elvish prommise-stone is broken by only one party, but the rest of them still honner it, does the prommise-stone get dammaged, but not destroyed? ... Also, does the prommise stone tend to have the terms of the prommise written on it in elvish, and/or depicted artisticly? ... Also, dispite elves supposedly tending to be chaotic-good in allignment, (which the whole community thing makes me question, on the ethics side) I'll bet that the lawfull-netral inhabitance of Mechinus love the concept of the elvish prommise-stones!

There's a massive problem with the one that hides their home operates on the supposition that someone is trying to find their home this means only people actively searching for that Elven realm will be sent astray people who accidentally find it however not so much that's why if you were lost in the woods you're far more likely to find an Elven home then if you're actually searching for one

Not to be contrary, but I believe there's been a misunderstanding with the function of Suyoll. At 23:16-23:30 it seems like you're saying that the spell targets only elves, and it only fixes something that happened in the target elf's life or death. However, at 24:16-24:27, you mention how it could cure Strahd's Vampirism, though he is a human, not an elf, and you also mention that drow could be turned into normal elves. Any drow alive today was not cursed to be a drow during their lifetime/deathtime, they were cursed in their ancestors' lifetime. But then again, I may have misinterpreted the quote from 23:16-23:30, in which case, my argument crumbles to pieces.

It depends on the spell, for example transforming the forests last forever, but transforming into a dragon only last a couple minutes. As for a casting limitation its the prep for the spell that takes time not the actual spell, since the magic comes from the weave itself as long as no mistakes are made a high mage can keep casting high magic for hours.

A LIch does NOT turn to dust over time, nor do they need to consume souls (they have no mechanism to even do that) A Demi-lich the more powerful and more advanced form of lich CAN consume souls but has no requirement to do so at all. also Liches can be good and lawful... A Demi-Lich is more powerful version of a lich, they have chosen to advance their form of undeath to a more pure and complete state. They are Epic level monsters of extreme power. Taken from the Epic level handbook itself. DEMILICH Diminutive Undead Hit Dice: 21d12 (130 hp) Initiative: +7 (+3 Dex, +4 Improved Initiative) Speed: Fly 180 ft. (perfect) AC: 51 (+4 size, +3 Dex, +5 natural armor, +8 bracers of armor, +2 ring of protection, +21 insight) Attacks: Touch +21 melee Damage: Touch 10d6+20 plus paralyzing touch Face/Reach: 1 ft. by 1 ft./0 ft. Special Attacks: Trap the soul, fear aura, paralyzing touch, 21st-level wizard spellcaster, Perfect Automatic Still Spell, spell-like abilities Special Qualities: Magic immunity, phylactery transference, turn resistance +20, DR 30/-, undead traits, acid resistance 20, fire resistance 20, sonic resistance 20, immune to cold, electricity, polymorph, and mindaffecting attacks. Saves: Fort +10, Ref +12, Will +17 Abilities: Str 10, Dex 16 (with gloves), Con -, Int 39 (with headband), Wis 24, Cha 20 Skills: Alchemy +38, Concentration +25, Hide +27, Knowledge (arcana, religion) +38, Knowledge (the planes, nobility and royality, history, local) +28, Listen +26, Move Silently +27, Scry +27, Search +38, Sense Motive +26, Spellcraft +38, Spot +26 Feats: Brew Potion, Combat Casting, Craft Wondrous Item, Enlarge Spell, Heighten Spell, Improved Inititative, Lightning Reflexes, Maximize Spell, Quicken Spell, Scribe Scroll, Spell Penetration, Toughness Epic Feats: Automatic Quicken Spell, Epic Spellcasting Improved Spell Capacity (10th), Tenacious Magician Climate/Terrain: Any Organization: Solitary Challenge Rating: 29 Treasure: Standard Alignment: Neutral evil Advancement: By character class Demiliches are wiser, older, and far deadlier than common liches. A demilich often appears as a single skull whose eye and tooth sockets have been fitted with costly gems. Other demiliches might appear as gem-encrusted bones of another type, such as a skeletal hand or spine. The gems gleam wickedly with the light of stolen souls being slowly devoured. Particularly powerful liches sometimes learn the secret of fashioning soul gems, and so evolve to demilichdom. Demiliches are free to roam distant planes in astral form, leaving behind their physical remains to brood in dark tombs of horror. In their planar wanderings, which span centuries, demiliches seek to discover all the secrets of the multiverse, and beyond, applying themselves to the study of epic spells, the location of unique artifacts, and the keys to release and control imprisoned abominations. Many pursue plans far deeper, which may eventually win them control of vast stretches of the multiverse, or even grant them the sparks of godhood . Demiliches speak the languages they knew as liches and as living creatures. Combat While demiliches are steeped in the knowledge of fell spells and defensive magic, they are usually content to trust to their innate defenses and magic immunity, as well as their ability to suck the soul right from the body of those who displease it. Trap the Soul (Su): A demilich can trap the souls of up to eight living creatures per day. To use this power, it selects any target it can see within 300 feet. The target is allowed a Fortitude saving throw (DC 36). If the target makes its saving throw, it gains four negative levels (this does not count as a use of trap the soul). If the target fails its save, the soul of the target is instantly drawn from its body and trapped within one of the gems incorporated into the demilich’s form. The gem gleams wickedly for 24 hours, indicating the captive soul within. The soulless body collapses in a mass of corruption and molders in a single round, reduced to dust. If left to its own devices, the demilich slowly devours the soul over 24 hours-at the end of that time the soul is completely absorbed, and the victim is forever gone. If the demilich is overcome before the soul is eaten, crushing the gem releases the soul, after which time it is free to seek the afterlife or be returned to its body by the use of either resurrection, true resurrection, clone, or miracle. A potential victim protected by a death ward spell is not immune to trap the soul, but receives a +5 bonus on its Fortitude saving throw. Negative energy protection is effective against the level loss. Fear Aura (Su): Demiliches are shrouded in a dreadful aura of death and evil. Creatures of less than 5 HD in a 60-foot radius that look at the demilich must succeed at a Will save (DC 19) or be affected as though by fear as cast by a 21st-level caster. Paralyzing Touch (Su): Any living creature a demilich touches must succeed at a Fortitude save (DC 36) or be permanently paralyzed. Remove paralysis or any spell that can remove a curse can free the victim (see the bestow curse spell). The effect cannot be dispelled. Anyone paralyzed by a demilich seems dead, though a successful Spot check (DC 20) or Heal check (DC 15) reveals that the victim is still alive. Spells: The demilich can cast any spells it could cast as a lich. This sample demilich was a 21st-level wizard (spells per day: 4/12/8/ 7/7/7/7/6/6/6/3). The three two spell slot is a 10th-level slot and available for 0-9th level metamagic spells. Perfect Automatic Still Spell (Ex): A demilich can at all the spells it knows without gestures. Spell-like Abilities: At will-alter self, astral projection, create greater undead, create undead, death knell, enervation, greater dispelling, harm (usually used to heal itself), summon monster I-IX, telekinesis, weird; 2/day-greater planar ally. Demiliches use these abilities as casters of a level equal to their spellcaster level, but the save DCs at all 36. Magic Immunity (Ex): Demiliches are immune to all magical and supernatural effects, except as follows. A shatter spell affects a demilich as if it were a crystalline creature, but deals half the damage normally indicated. A dispel evil spell deals 3d6 points of damage (Fort save for half damage). Holy smite spells affect demiliches normally. Phylactery Transference (Su): Headbands, belts, rings, cloaks, and other wearable items kept in close association with the demilich’s phylactery transfer all their benefits to the demilich no matter how far apart the demilich and the phylactery are located. The standard limits on types of items utilized simultaneously still apply. The sample demilich “wears” bracers of armor +8, headband of intellect +6, pink Ioun stone, ring of wizardry I, ring of protection +2, and gloves of Dexterity +2. Undead Traits: Immune to poison, sleep, paralysis, stunning, disease, death, effects, necromantic effects, mind-affecting effects, and any effect requiring a Fortitude save unless it also works on objects. Not subject to critical hits, subdual damage, ability damage, ability drain, or energy drain. Negative energy heals. Not at risk of death from massive damage, but destroyed at 0 hit points or less. Darkvision 60 ft. Cannot be raised; resurrection works only if creature is willing. Immunities (Ex): Demiliches are immune to cold, electricity, polymorph, and mind-affecting attacks.

After the fall and Nethril and the restrictions put on higher level magic (level 10, 11, and 12 level spells) and the protections put in to potentially prevent further casting.... my question is this: can one still use elvern high magic? and if so does it differ from the way it was used before the fall of Nethril? Been doing research on epic magic, elvern high magic, ect. for my players and this concept somewhat confused me, whether or not it is still doable, and if so what has changed (if anything). EDIT: BTW I just wanted to throw this in: as usual loving this series and especially this detour on elves, helps any elvern players I might have understand the community better. Love your work, you are my favorite lore youtuber by far, and I look forward to see what you have in store :)

As far as I'm aware elven high magic redirects the weave instead of using it like normal spells do, so they are not affected by Mystras restriction on 10th,11th and 12th level spells. I would also argue that elven high magic is presided over by the Seldarine and not Mystra. For more info see MrRhexxs video on elven high magic: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-obiVOd6wjFk.html
@ElrohillLW
@ElrohillLW 4 года назад
The Mystra ban is clear: 1. No spells dealing with time and reality or with effect range more then couple of hundreds meters 2. No spells above 9 lvl are able to cast by single person As it was answered - Elven High Magic is not normal Arcane magic. Those spells are not fuelled by harming the wave (and doing the hole in wave,) as normal arcane do. The Elven High Mage manipulates the wave to his will, not by force as arcanists do, but by touching it in right spots and gentle moving in right directions. Thus - no Elven High Magic is not prohibited by Mystra. Especially now - after second sundering, there is no clear ban state of the new reborn godess of Mystra. And propably - it will not be, maybe will be when she will restore whole power. But it could not happen - because this reincarnation is much much dependent on the mortal from whom she was reincarnated. Another reason why: elven high magic due it nature and how it affects the wave is able to heal the wave damaged by normal arcane magic. And this would be shot in the foot for Mystra to block the ones who help her heal the damage to the wave. And one last reason - Mystra is not able to stand against the whole Sindarin Pantheon alone, having Shar and Bane (and other as Larloch) lurking to steal the wave from her. Especially that Magic domain is also in Corellon portfolio, and he came here with elves with his own magic...
