This is the third visit to Sweet Springs resort & Sanatorium in Gaps Mill, West Virginia. . Also the last for awhile. I (Heather) go on trips often with friends, and bring you guys along since Im there anyways! This is just a peaceful stroll around with some history and exploring of this massive and amazing location, hidden in the remote Allegheny mountains.
The inside video didn't come out great, but I decided to share it anyways, and people can choose to watch or not =)

The wife and I camped in Huntington and Kenna WV last week. I still plan on towing our Airstream to Williamson area and taking you two to dinner. Appreciate all you do and such great YouTubing. Keep it up. Ron and Ann Cannon, Cumming GA.

First of all. Love you guys and love your channel. I have no idea why or how your channel popped up on my feed. But I’m thankful it did. I live in Roanoke,VA. I have roots in West Virginia. Beauiful. Love hearing the birds, seeing the drive in, and thanks for pointing out those features and structures (i wouldn't have seen them otherwise). Good info telling thanks Heather and leo piazza a large open square (piæzə , -ætsə ) Word forms: plural piazzas. A piazza is a large open square in a town or city, especially in Italy. Loggia a gallery or room with one or more open sides, especially one that forms part of a house and has one side open to the garden. an open-sided extension to a house. In summary, those arches form a loggia overlooking the piazza. The porch from one end of the building to the other is a veranda.

As someone who was always fascinated with WV history, that place is probably in the top 5 of the most historic sites in the state. I'm glad to see it's being cared for. It's been around for over 200 years and served a lot of different purposes over the years. When I first learned about it in preparation for the Golden Horseshoe, it was being used as a nursing home. It makes sense that the architect of the Jefferson Building was an understudy of Thomas Jefferson. You can see his influences in the Neoclassical elements that are reminiscent of those on Monticello. Jefferson himself passed away in 1826, thirteen years before the building was completed. In the setting of that building, the piazza would have been synonymous with a front porch or veranda, so they would have been referring to the long walkway that went the width of the front of the building.

I hope the owner puts all his memories and history on a channel. Makes you sad to think of all the cheap houses they are throwing together and these amazing buildings are slowly decaying.

Just started following you guys. Trying to play catch-up with all your videos. I’m originally from Southwestern Virginia, Marion, Smith County. My maternal grandmother family originates in Bluefield. I just gotta say I love your silly giggle. Thanks for showing a fellow hillbilly some history.

I am glad you chose to revisit Hidden Sweet Springs as it is a beautiful place. The day is beautiful Heather. The landscaping is just "out of sight." The birds singing their morning songs sound so harmonious. My goodness! Look at the old jail. It is probably haunted. I don't think that. I would like to visit the old jail at night as it is a little scary. I am so glad that you shared the buildings on the Camus. It is truly a gorgeous place. Thank you Heather.
