Great videos on the history of Leeds, but they would be even better if you would put larger images of the old maps in and leave them on screen for longer. Thanks!
My Friends and I have many times walked the beck from It’s beginning at Adel Dam to it’s confluence with the River. This was in the 70s , Adel, Meanwood,Sheepscar, Lady and finally Timble. We saw huge Rats near the dripping works and experienced deafening traffic walking beneath Miilgarth and Duke street
@@garybulmer3490 The main beck comes in from Meanwood. I think the beck you are referring to is called Gipton Beck. Looking at the section that is visible, and comparing the contours, I think the Gipton Beck will join the Sheepscar Beck / Lady Beck somewhere south of there but it is culverted, so I haven't been able to trace its confluence on current maps.
I used to live in the flats that are in the final section of your video - back in 2001, just after they were built. The beck runs under the car park of the flats, as you say, and I had noticed that there was a new large outfall arch for the beck into the Aire. I had assume it was Meanwood Beck...
Most informative. I live near Lady/Meanwood Beck as it flows through the Meanwood, Scott Hall and Sheepscar areas. I have never heard the name Timble Beck before, though.
If you are interested there is a more "down to earth" vid here about the later course of the beck. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Cecu5kyUf2M.html ATB - Jn
Hi great video. I heard that Holbeck was named after the beck that used to run through the area. If this is true I’d love to know if it’s still there underground, culverted from our eyes.
