You mention the downside of the traditional styles in that they must be left open all night to let smoke out and can thus let water in. It your's is left extended (as it is at the 6:00 point in the video) to again let the smoke out, what would stop any sort of angling rain from entering the chimney?
Why don't you show it working?? what if the cable comes off the pulley in the winter? would a copper tube work better to hold the cable in place? is it air tight?
