For days at sat at my laptop with FL Studio open, combing through songs that I could use for my 100 video special. At the time the poll was up, and Mixtape seemed like it was going to sweep the competition, so I had already begun looking for franchises to mash together. I had my earbuds in, jamming out to Hideki Naganuma tracks, picking apart samples in my head and tying them to other tracks. Eventually I tied a sample to a track by skankfunk, Naganuma's alter ego, and then it clicked.
What better special to do then pit two sides of the same coin against each other?
So instead of choosing two franchises, I chose two artists, well, one artist, an artist that I probably wouldn't have been so enthusiastic with music without. As Hideki Naganuma's the biggest influence in my audio production, celebrating him along with 99 other videos that he inspired seemed perfect.
I tried to keep this mixtape around the length of my other mixtape, not going overboard like in so many of my medleys. I also attempted to balance out the tracks as much as I could, not focusing too much on Jet Set Radio and Sonic Rush and giving the lesser known franchises like KUROHYOU a chance, call me hipster but that's what I do (I may have gone overboard on Air Gear though, I didn't realize that every other skankfunk track was from Air Gear until I was done xD). As it stands, this is one of my favorite works, I say that a lot, but this time I (hopefully) mean it!
I also want to take a chance to thank you guys, all 700+ of you (how did that happen?!?!) for sticking around for 100 videos and almost 2 years of music, loyal fans are hard to find so I truly appreciate your support :)
