A comparison of two of my favorite headphones. One planar magnetic, and the other a dynamic driver. 11:15... The Sound. 27:34... Conclusion. HE1000SE available at APOS Audio... apos.audio/pro...
MISTAKE... A few times in this video I referred to the Feliks Audio Elise as the Echo. The Elise was the primary headphone amp used with the ZMF Atrium while doing this comparison.
I have a hard time picking between the two! I already have a planar pair - DCA E3, and a dynamic driver pair - Focal Radiance. Also have an HD600, which I mostly use for gaming. Now looking for an 'endgame' open backs to complement my small collection. Im really curious about the details and expansive soundstage the Hifimans reproduce, but at the same time a bit reluctant to try them due to their 'bright' tuning. On the other hand, seems like the Atrium would work best with the genres that I listen to - EDM. Also love the fact that you can tailor the tuning to your liking with ZMF headphones using their pads and meshes. Help???
Another great video! FWIW, I have the Felix Euphoria, and that drives my HE100SE beautifully. Now I think I need the Atrium to see how that sounds with the Euphoria 😂
Mr. Murdock, have you tried swapping between a pair of top-notch earphones and a pair of your favourite headphones, in order to avoid the fatigue you mentioned? I have an unusual shaped head and small ear holes, so I may try this idea myself.
Hi, I was looking for a DAC/AMP for the He1000se around $1000-$2000. I currently have the JDS elements III ... I was thinking in the Chord Qutest + JDS or the RME ADI-2 DAC FS... What do you think about these 2 options? any other recommendation? Thanks
Just my two cents. I suspect the Chord Qutest would perform better than either the RME ADI-2 or the JDS Element III. Both the ADI-2 and Element III are a delta/sigma configuration, meaning their signal processors are preprogrammed to a specific spec by the chip manufacturer. Whereas the Qutest will be an FPGA type DAC, meaning Chord will have done the pre-programming in-house (to their specs). This isn't to say that FPGA DACs are inherently better though. But I suspect you'd appreciate the performance of the Chord more than the other two. I personally use the Denafrips Pontus II DAC. The Pontus II is at a similar price point to the Chord Qutest. But the Denafrips is what's called a Ladder R2R DAC. It will have a softer, smoother sound compared to the others, including the Chord, but will still be highly detailed (a sweet sparkle). The Denafrips is an analog DAC. What this means is it uses arrays of resistors (called ladders) to convert the digital signals rather than employing an IC chip for conversion. Hence the analog sound.
I have the adi-2 and wouldn't change it for any other DAC in the market no matter the price. You can add an amp or use it as a combo but the DAC part is the best you can get.
@@UntakenNick I agree with this. Currently running just the adi-2 and he1000se. Sounds magical. Although I'm curious what it'll sound like with an amp..
Honestly my favorite so far is the Wavebourn Power Amp Plus. The iFi IDSD PRO is a really good match. On the budget end, the Hifiman EF-400 works really well.
The Caldera is _technically_ a superior headphone, but I actually prefer the Atrium and Verite Open over the Caldera. Planars just can’t compete with dynamic drivers in the areas I tend to care most about. I don’t care for more details than what the AO & VO provide. The Caldera is the best planar I’ve heard, tho. I enjoyed it more than the lcd-5.
@@asplmn would u say the verite open is better than the Atrium ? i do about 30/70. music/games.. so its primarily for games, first person. how would the verite open not be awesome for games?
@@JohnSmith-bn7bl I sold my Atrium Open and kept my Verite Open. :) VO is great for games, but if you the absolute best FPS cans, then go for the HD 800 S.
@@asplmn thanks. arent the original silver version HD 800 the best to get ? i was in two minds, and decided on the Verite Opens, may need a new headband, but looking forward to them.
I own the ZMF Atrium and i will receive next week the Hifiman HE-1000SE... Perfect vidéo for me! ;-) Thanks for the upload, i love your video. Keep with this good work!
@@robbas_krk1510 Yes i received it and the left driver didn't work... So return to the dealer! For the moment the HE-1000se is out of stock at the shop, so i must wait 3 weeks... I will let you know what i think of it when i receive one who work correctly! ;-)
Thanks for another great video! Have you tried the ZMF Atrium paired with the iFi Pro iDSD Signature or the Burson Conductor 3X Reference (3XR)? What is your opinion?
I haven't tried the Atrium with the PRO iDSD yet, but I plan to soon. I have tried it with the Burson Conductor 3 Reference, and it is a very good match. That said, the Atrium reaches another level when used with a good OTL tube amp. The sound becomes very 3 dimensional.
Would the Topping DX9power these or would it struggle ? I would like to get a streamer for the DX9 could you recommend one ? _ I just discovered your channel and am enjoying your detailed reviews and will be here a lot . I was just curious about your thoughts on a Deckware tube amp with the ZMF?
@@theheadphoneexperience-wil2250 thank you . I’m new to this and rely on advice from people that know more and I’ve been very fortunate to get a lot of great advice . 👍
