Great review sir, I initially planned to get a Sundara but decided to first get a magni 3+ (used at $75) so I don't have to worry about power since the magni should be able to power nearly all headphones I will purchase in the future. I also found a store selling the he400se for $75 brand new so I decided to blind purchase as an introduction to the Hifiman house sound since this will be my first Hifiman HPs and the price was too good to pass.
Nice, precise & detailed review. I use these cans with xDuoo MT-602 Hybrid Tube amp which pumps 1.3W @ 32 ohms and they sound great! Could you do a review of AKG K612 Pro &, if possible, compare them with K712 Pro?
@@theheadphoneexperience-wil2250 Cool. I think you should definitely listen to K612 Pro & 712 Pro. Fantastic headphones! The soundstage is huge on these.
Thanks for the review. I agree 100% that the HE400SE require a decent amp. I wouldn't recommend using them with the Zen Dac due to its weak power output (230 mW@32 Ohms). I can recommend the XDuoo MT-602. It's a great, cheap hybrid amp with 1,3W/32Ohms. It's really excellent as an amp. I recently discovered that it really shines when used in concert with AQ Dragonfly Black (used as a DAC).
Were You using first Zen/Dac in Your tests of these? Because I don't really have a problem powering 400se's from Zen/Dac v2. Those Hifiman's have to be power matched/on high gain of course, but not louder than 2 o'clock. It would be too loud for me. P.S. It boggles the mind, that Edition xs is actually easier to drive xD
Other than the HE-560 and HE-6, the HE-400SE is the most power hungry Hifiman headphone that I know of. Both the Ananda Stealth and Arya Stealth are much easier to drive.
My hifi man 4xx will make my Asgard 3 earn it's keep most planars from hifi man will. Make sure you pretty much have a powerhouse amp to drive your planars they love power to really make em sing thanks William...
The ones that have the trickle down stealth magnets Was Actually Started With the HE 1000SE 1st then 400 SE Then the HIFIMAN Arya Stealth Magnet Version Then the edition XS
Thank you. I don't currently have a ZEN CAN but I'm sure it has plenty of power for the HE-400SE. I'm supposed to be getting a Signature version in soon.
Believe it or not I use both a Fiio A5 amp and a new Fosi Audio head amp, and they are both able to drive both my Hifiman phones quite easily! I’m certain a really good desk amp would make my SEs sound even better. Having the bass boost option is also great on those portable amps. Gain must be on high.
@@Ishpreetb264 Just an amp will do, a good one, but a DAC amp combo. would probably be even better as far as quality goes, esp. if you're running some high DEf. sources., FLAC, DSD etc.
@@thiscorrosion900 Thanks a lot for replying. I just use apple music so I don't think I need a great dac but still I'm confused between zen air dac and zen air can. The former has both an amp and a dac while the latter just has a more powerful amp. Which one do you recommend?
@@Ishpreetb264 I see, hrm Apple Music the quality out of the box is ok, should be fine. I see, the Air Can is more of a stripped down version, but i hear both are great. I ended up buying the IFI XCan about two months ago or under, and it is a phenomenal amp. It claims to have a DAC chip in it, and is dual mono. It drives my dynamics and Hifimans with ease. It sounds amazing! Tons of power and clean power too. I haven't heard the desktop IFI amps, but, I think it depends what you need: a desktop amp, with DAC, if your source lacks a DAC, somehow, or, do you need a totally portable amp? If you need the latter, I would look into the XCan, or the DSD IFI amps. The might even be better for Focals, more power and a better DAC built in for HD sources. I'm pleased with the XCan since the battery life is amazing, and it goes anywhere.
If their Expensive Headphones have Quality Problems , I imagine terrible Cable, Driver problems, Magnet thin cable connections, Pads unglue , mismatched L+R sound etch etch ... All that for 160 + 30 for cable ? LOL Even Koss 30i sounds better and cost less .
I have owned or reviewed at least a dozen Hifiman headphones and have not yet had a single driver failure. I have had ONE cable failure and Hifiman replaced it within a week.
@@theheadphoneexperience-wil2250 Its different to Review a headphone for some days , And is Different to really Use a Headphone for years . For example anything u Say about HD600 i am all ears. I know Headphone problems is about luck also, But We both know that Sennheiser Quality Control on HD 6 line and up is way better than Hifiman , Focal , AKG . And its not only Sennheiser , B&W , Bose also have amazing Quality Control. We agree Hifiman has amazing support They Change on my Sundara 2 times the Failed drivers , One time the Cable on 400 and one time 1 pad had unglued and send me 2 of them . They are very kind and reply fast on mails , That doesnt change the Fact that Real people That Really use them everyday and not Reviewers have problems with them . Its like saying that People Reviewing Cars know better about your car problems that u use everyday and own for years .
